  5. Jool atmosphere is mostly hydrogen right? What if we bring an scramjet engine to jool with oxidizer to make use of all those hydrogen? Should have pretty decent isp I think and help a lot with Jool ascent should anyone attempt it. Would also work in methane atmosphere too.
  6. Praise Kerbol! You can almost think of that asteroid as a giant ultralight fuel tank with a fuel mass ratio of 1:11(including refinery). Now I know what my Jool-5 mothership will look like... a giant potato with multiple ships stuck to it. Now is this common or incredible luck?

  8. Yeah it makes sense now, thanks. Bulkier LH2 tanks is ok IMO, this is accurate in real life. However the dry weight of the stock tanks are way too heavy, if we use them to store LH2 we'll probably find them weight more than the LH2 they store, so maybe not change the unit of LH2 but lower tank mass? Currently I'm using the LH2 tanks from Near Future Propulsion, they sure looks very sweet...

  10. Runway is deathtrap for me too, I can build SSTO space plane just fine but landing on that narrow runway always involve many many F5/F9....

  14. I edited the cfg file of LV-N to use liquid hydrogen (Using Cryogenic Engine mod by Nertea you can switch tank type from LF/Ox to LH2). Yup it turns out LH2 has such an abysmally low density that the tank's dry mass actually weight more than LH2 they store. It would be more realistic that way, but also a huge engineering challenge to get LV-N to do anything, people can stop bitching about LV-N already, squad actually made it easy for us if anything....

  16. Thank you! This is exactly what I need. One problem though is that the conversion ratio is off IMO, the conversion ratio used in this mod seems to be based on mass ratio of (0.001 H2+ 0.019 CO2->0.009 LF+ 0.011 Ox). However the unit in KSP is in volume (Litre?) I think. In the resource definition cfg file you can find the density related to the resource. This would make the above conversion ratio way way OP, like 1 ton of H2 combined with unlimited CO2 will yield hundreds of tons of Liquid Fuel + oxidizer. In Community resource's cfg file you can see Lqd Hydrogen has density of 0.00007 while Liquid Fuel is 0.005. Therefore the correct conversion ratio should be something like: 0.07 LH2 + 48 CO2 -> 0.009 LF + 0.011 Ox
  17. This one just pop up on a contract, a kerbal stranded in low sun orbit about 2000Mm from kerbol need rescue. The pay is not that great too, just the same as any rescue mission in Kerbin system about 200k. But I never have the heart to turn down rescue mission... so here I go!
  18. Thanks everyone! Problem solved, got transfer window planner. Turns out I need to burn retrograde to Mun's orbital velocity, felt stupid to not tried that the first place. Took 700m/s and encounter in 2.5 days, Rocket to Minmus!
  19. I can get an encounter at T-24 days, but that is too long for me. So yeah I can't get a fast encounter. I was trying to increase both radial and pro-grade velocity to get a fast encounter, and increase normal to match inclination. To get fast encounter I'd probably have to get it into kerbin escape trajectory, but I can't find an encounter with that. I didn't save the game at that time so no picture yet, I'll try to get picture when I attempt it again....

So I want to send something from Mun to Minmus fast, the usual Hohmann transfer (takes about 300m/s) takes about 24 days, but I want it there in less then 10 days and have tons of dV to spare (>1500m/s). But after a long time tweaking around with the maneuver node I'm still having trouble getting an encounter with Minmus, any tips?

  22. Apart from memory leak, another problem is that temperature doesn't seem to drop back/ might even keep raising for no reason. I have a ship with two LV-N to Minmus, the LV-N causing the ship to heat up is legit, but the temperature just stay constant/keeps on raising way after shutting down the LV-Ns. Now the ship is 6 days in and its glowing red.... I'm worried if this goes on it might blowup and kill my tourist :/
