Lifting the Mk3 planes
Evanitis replied to storm_soldier2377's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Had some brainstorming in another thread with a fellow who had similar issues. Turned out that empty Mk3 cargobays generate lift that doesn't appear in the VAB/SPH. Try balancing the CoM-CoL accordingly... just imagine some wings to the center of the 'bay. -
It's the perfect amalgam for me. It incorporates the wastefulness of rockets with the cargo-limitations and flight difficulties of SSTO-planes. What's not to love?
-
I had an accident. Note to self: don't read the forums when pitching manually.
-
Did you manage to download it? That Kiwi6 host where the big DL button of the op points tells me that download is disabled for the file. I might just ping @WAS, who knows. The main links in the older thread (ENBS + Sweet-Fx) work, that already is a blast.
-
@mrmcp1 That's a marvelous construction. Them folks use sophisticated mod-packs when one can lift with panels.. So kerbal!
-
For me it went to 8 minutes from 6. (Blue Harvest + SweetFx, medium preset). But I avoid part mods for multiple reasons - a very heavy impact on my loading times is one of many.
-
Never had a problem with that.

Yes, and no apparent reduction. Got a spaceplane with ~200 parts, about that's where the 'barely noticeable' lag starts on my end. It was still 'barely noticeable' with this setup. All what ENBS does is post-processing. In theory that should happen on the GPU, while physics based lag originates from the CPU. I usually don't trust practice to be same as the theory, but it worked for me.

I figured out how to make screens with ENBS on (+EVE, Planetshine and Scatterer), so I can share what could I squeeze out of my potato. (2.8 intel core 2 duo, 9600gt, 4g ram). Screen-transition time is increased, but no noticeable impact on performance. Though I definitely wouldn't recommend it to someone who dislike tweaking. It took me a while to make some aspects look good, and to eliminate some ugly artifacts. And just noticed one more I need to kill.

I...I Need help with Docking...
Evanitis replied to WatermelonMax's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It's all around, I just paste it sometimes when the question arises, as it's better than what I could tell (and I dislike videos). Though I'm not fond of that docking indicator it propagates. Eyeballing is fun and good enough, and now we have a stock way for the same - those 'rulers' in the bottom-left corner. -

*scrolls from bottom to the top* *sees aircraft* "Hehehe. I bet this will be a Baloo plane." *and lo*

Interesting idea. What doesn't make it look feasible to me is that how the collective acts and operates. Hive-mind or not, I can't really see it's actions and methods as a sum of the will of one or more assimilated species. Organic doesn't -think- that way. The Borg rather reminds me of a rogue AI. Like Skynet, or the Matrix one. I can totally imagine it as it realizes that it's creators have self-destructive potential, and attempting to 'fix' it (the Terminator way) would result in animosity with them. The method they actually use looks like an Ultimate Solution designed by a machine. It minimizes the risks and the waste of resources. And it's universal - worked on every species it met since the unification with the creators. Because of the above, I can totally see it as a good guy. One so terrifyingly constructive that it looks destruction from the outside. The Matrix AI reveals after two sequels that he was just scared but he's ready to cooperate. So.. best friends forever humanity? I always pictured the Borg in a similar way. It just knows better than to negotiate or play mind-games..

Mods in Stock
Evanitis replied to Choctofliatrio2.0's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I wonder if some or more of us posting here had a different interpretation of the question in the op. Some earlier answers and the thread title made me read it as what mods I like in a 'stock~ish' game. As in one where KSP isn't on Moho, Earth or other alien planets, there are no warp-drives or little imps that mine for you, etc. I definitely wouldn't think RPM should be stock. Hehh, totally. The fact that I'll probably always play with MJ because I love to have my transfer-window 'calculator' and automatic node placer besides my favourite readouts doesn't make me think everyone should have those at the start. The game was -really- fun when I didn't even know what those meant in the first place. Stock is fine and cool as it is, I'd add nothing that has more impact than like BetterBurnTimes. I remember back in the day, someone told me how cool is Orbiter. I was (and mostly still is) a layman when it comes to astronautic and aircraft stuff, but I have a soft spot for cool but not-too-popular games. So I installed it, but couldn't even figure out how to launch. Checked a video to see how it's done, but after 10 minutes in, they were still telling me what I need to -know- instead of what I need to push to make things explode. I never looked back. KSP is doing the appealing to a wider audience stuff right. Started my first game, skipped tutorials, but I instantly knew what the two numbers on screen meant, and I only had to push my biggest button to make things happen. I believe that's the secret of the game's popularity. -
Nice backyard! I hitch-hike with mine. Back when he was puppy, I instantly got a ride kinda' always. Now he's a big smelly beast, but it's still a lot better with him than alone. I'm always surprised because of that. Guess people think if I were a villain, I'd carry a cat.

Got it. No Steam, and it's a hassle with windows. I might take -one- screen per session. If I don't forget to save it when finished. xD

* and the end of whoever will inherit the rights. But it's not impossible. And I think I'll always welcome a reason to aim a random spot in the world with a barrel of beer on me.
-
Added ENBS to make KSP look extra-nice. It took me a while until I tweaked EVE's clouds to not burn into solid white, and to nudge Scatterer ocean to look pretty with it. I'd show you how cool it looks, but it appears the changes doesn't make it into screenshots. And my potato can't handle a recording software besides all the above. But it's pretty.
-
Sounds cool. How about this: if KSP 2 comes out, you buy it for me. If it never comes out, I buy you a barrel of beer.

Damn, I was sure I give the most boring rocket names of ever. Now I'm beaten.

The UM-1 Ultra Manueverable Stunt Plane
Evanitis replied to AquaAlmond Productions's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Noticed it. Though I think it would be more fun to include the engineering into the challenge. As in landing a 'conventional' plane there, that only has backwards facing engines. I'd also add to use destructible facilities for extra fun, but there's no way to check if it's actually the case on a submission.- 34 replies

You sound very intimidating, I'm not sure I want to ask what you mean. Perhaps the less we know is the better. Though books could be filled with stuff that someone stated will never happen and than happened.

The UM-1 Ultra Manueverable Stunt Plane
Evanitis replied to AquaAlmond Productions's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Not sure if you saw this excellent illustrated aircraft design guide. It's a bit old - the parts about drag is for the pre-1.0 atmo and can be ignored. But most of it is still viable. It was an eye-opener for me.- 34 replies
