That's a war neither side should want to fight or win. We all want good mods, and we all want KSP to be a stable 64-bit application. Things like this unfixer are dragging people who want nothing to do with any of this into a stupid, pointlessly destructive confrontation in which each side tries to iteratively counter the other and neither can have the last word. That is a recipe for uncontrolled escalation. At some point Squad will be forced to step in officially, and given their deft touch with community relations, that thought should give you all nightmares - no matter whose side you think they might take. Oh, why am I even bothering? It's just like so many other conflicts in history. I wish y'all were kerbals IRL. I could distract you with something shiny for a year and no one would get hurt. But, humans. So yeah, carry on, rip each other apart, all because you just can't wait, and you simply must have the fruit of someone else's labor right now, exactly the way you want it, even after he points out that you're hurting him and he asks you politely to stop.

Stop messing with Physics Please
Megan replied to Rixsaw's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Um, seriously? The effects of Terraria's updates are nothing like the effects of KSP's updates, which is what the OP is complaining about. Whether you agree with him or not, that's just about the worst comparison I can imagine. I still have a savefile with the very first Terraria house I built. The walls are still standing in 1.2, and I'm absolutely certain they'll be standing a week from now if I load it up in 1.3. The stats on a few armors changed, but my helmet never exploded on my head, and my character still jumps the same height when I press the spacebar. -

There are entirely too many uncharitable ways to sig that.
-
Awesome, but impractical to send even with fast cable. So I asked Jubal to help me make something else.

Mods will usually slow you down. ATM is the only one I know of that generally speeds you up. Try lowering the Aerodynamic FX Quality slider in your settings, if it's just reentry that's causing the problem. Plus the usual video card driver updating thing.

I've read some pretty scathing reviews of Original Sin. I remember thinking the first Divinity had some good aspects, for its time - but again, no respawning monsters, which was a problem for me given the way they implemented shop stocks. IIRC, they were set when you level up, if you reached the cap and never got the spell or item you wanted, too bad, learn to savescum. I hate metagaming - which was also an issue in the otherwise superb Wizardry 8. It set legendary treasure chest contents when you entered an area. Beyond Divinity had a place you could go for more monsters, but heavens, it was painful to even walk in that game. Larian often has decent ideas and intentions, but their execution is startlingly bad.

But that's a sad thing. I've sometimes wondered what one of you guys thinks about something, because you've commented on a related subject before in a way that interested or amused me, or at least made me say "Go on." And sometimes I have to keep wondering, possibly because you're restraining yourselves to avoid appearing unethical. I don't know that you entirely answered my question because I was hoping there was another way around this, even if just a font change wouldn't do. Mostly, you made me wish I could bake a bunch of cupcakes for y'all. Well, I guess I see why RIC was reluctant to suit up.
-
In light of some of the posts in a current thread, would it be possible for RIC (or anyone else) to elaborate on this response from a while back: I don't have a kerbal on that launchpad, as it were, but I'm curious about why it's counterproductive to do the colors/fonts thing. Couldn't that help reassure users when you guys just want to participate in a discussion, and don't see any need to step in otherwise? I'd like to understand what the potential pitfalls might be. PS. Thanks for the light touch I generally see around these parts.

Ah, Ultima. So many great memories. The Black Gate and Serpent Isle were fine games, but for me the series peaked at VI: The False Prophet. Well, FP and BG, really. SI was all right but I had to struggle to stay interested around Shamino's castle. It picked up again towards the end but I thought it was weaker than BG. Did you play the Underworlds too? Fair enough. I loved ME1 (not so much the sequels) but I can see where you're coming from. That does throw the field wide open, though, since this babying is a relatively recent phenomenon, isn't it? At least to a KOTOR extent. Jagged Alliance 2 and the Silent Storm games have no hint of it, for example. And if you don't mind a bit of genre-mixing, try Defender's Quest (link goes to a demo on Kongregate). It's a pretty unique RPG/tower defense combo - your characters are the "towers." You can level up their fire rate, types of attacks, spells, and so on. Also, if you don't mind some added difficulty, you can play it in hero mode by not hiring any mercs, and then it becomes a bit of a puzzle game as well. Oh, thought of another one, since you don't mind old-school graphics: The Magic Candle. I thought the first game was brilliant, despite the fact that I generally hate time limits. Also, I presume you've tried the various Spiderweb series? Going further afield, there's A Dark Room and The Ensign on iOS.

Yeah. I think it'll be the Diablo subgenre, basically, apart from the occasional oddballs. I picked up Hand of Fate the other day. Only about 15% of the way in, I think, but it seems like a solid RPG. Sort of a choose-your-own-adventure (all scenarios replayable for moar stuffs though, so "open world" insofar as that goes) with some deck-building mechanics - you can set up the possible encounters and equipment you might come across each run. The animations can be hit or miss, but the graphics are decent, and consistent, overall. And the voice acting is very good, which is unusual. Your - DM, I guess? - is entertainingly sarcastic on occasion. The combat is a bit simplistic, but it works.
-
Darklands was (and still is) superb, yes. Very much a party-based game, though. (Sidenote: have any of you guys tried Serpent in the Staglands? It's on Steam and there's a free demo at the link. The second I saw the screenshots, I said, oh hey, Darklands! Again, party-based, so not what regex wants, but I'm curious - haven't had the time to try it yet myself.)
-
I don't mind permadeath either. I meant no respawning of enemies Dark Stone wasn't bad, though the controls were a bit floaty for my tastes. And I didn't like the aging mechanic, but meh, around midgame that was easily overcome.

The Batman PC port situation has me worried about KSP for the PS4
Megan replied to CynicalVision's topic in KSP1 Discussion
This sarcasm is uncalled for. They totally redeemed themselves with Hookups Wallpaper. -
V2 W/Transport? Sacrilege! Everyone knows the only thing you should ever need is MOAR BOOSTERS. Wheels, for Jeb's sake?! Cheater!
-
Also, Shadowrun has no respawn. (Same as Two Worlds and its sequel, at least in singleplayer, IIRC.) Don't know if that's important to regex, but it's always a deal-breaker for me.

Great! Hope one of them works out for you A couple of notes though: Grim Dawn is still in early access, but it's scheduled for release at the end of the year, and it's more polished than most finished games. (Ahem.) Never broke a save for me. Level cap is 50 now and I think at least 75% of the content must be done. Though they're introducing a new system in a couple of months that sounds like it'll allow you to modify your skills - don't know how that'll play it out, but it's one of the things I'm most looking forward to. Space Rangers 2 has several versions. I'd go with the most recent (A War Apart) personally, but opinion is divided. Some people feel the Reboot version was better in terms of balancing, but the difficulty is as finely adjustable as you want - faction strength, faction aggressiveness, equipment deterioration rate, and so on.
-
Hmm. Grim Dawn hits all your bullet points, but it might be too combat-heavy. Recettear was great. JRPG, but atypically open-world. (Well, as far as the world went.) You only play one character at a time, although it's possible to (freely) choose from about half a dozen. Oh, I know. How about Space Rangers 2?
-
I thought that was rather heavy-handed sarcasm.
-
Calculation is cheating. Real pilots eyeball it. "That tank will get me to Duna. It's stripey!"
-
You don't need to leave a place just because people disagree with you. If I did that I'd be on Pluto about now. (Though for the record, I disagree with you too. )

7/10. I like blue and the kerbal walk is funny. Full points there. But the vertical thing disorients me if I look at it too long, and the helmet seems empty which was creepy after I noticed it even if it's just the perspective. -
[1.12.x] Heat Control - More radiators! (August 18, 2024)
Megan replied to Nertea's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Of course, I didn't mean to imply that either you or Nertea shared my take on things to any extent, and I'm not accusing RoverDude of stealing anything. I apologize if that was unclear in my previous posts. Glad to hear there's some part of this that will be useful. -
[1.12.x] Heat Control - More radiators! (August 18, 2024)
Megan replied to Nertea's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Really? Why? Maybe you're in so deep you can't see what it looks like to regular players. Here's what it looks like to me: Squad introduces a problem (overheating) without the minimal foresight to give players a way to deal with it. Randazzo and Nertea work hard to solve the problem, and they both do so very well, in ways that complement each other. They both deliberately avoid stepping on each others' toes. Then Squad tells us we should be super-excited about a "brilliant" new feature from you. That feature turns out to be worse in all aspects - aesthetics, gameplay, and balancing - than what Randazzo and Nertea gave us weeks ago, stomps all over their toes with blithe insouciance, and introduces more headaches for them. Still surprised? Now, maybe there are justifications for every step along the way and everything was done in good faith with no intention to undercut anyone. I'm perfectly willing to believe that, and I have no particular interest in insulting you (or further derailing the HC thread). But the result, from my perspective, remains as you see above. -
"Duna, Ore Bust!" -- a KSP Graphic Novel (COMPLETE)
Megan replied to Mister Dilsby's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Just found this and I love it. Subscribed. My favorite bits so far: Val's interlude - really touching Jeb's hidden depths and self-awareness - surprising (but wholly believable) and a bit of a tearjerker "This one tastes like blue!" - made me laugh way more than it should have I'm very glad you're not going to include romance; I'm fully on board with your mental image of Kerbals as "technologically advanced children." Looking forward to a long run for this one, and hoping for many sequels. Thanks for writing it!- 598 replies
