  1. did I expect the update sooner, sure i did. Do i think I should be badgering the devs about them having plans different to my expectations. No. Squad are a good dev team they have released a game and are being courteous to the whole community in releasing a engine update. Im sure the people posting here have all got their money's worth already from playing the game and like most posters appreciate the effort that Squad are putting in with their game.
  2. if you have issues with repeating textures you could try using the city overlay in order to change the textures. there is nothing stopping people using the city terrain stuff to display varying terrain.
  3. personally the way that USI LS plays out seems like the best case for a stock implementation of LS (if it a forced option) although if it is optional i would like to see a system ranging from USI to TAC LS meaning as you implement more difficulty more resources come into play. also kerbals dying from lack of resources etc. so to scale it i would say USI is a good fit for normal, and moderate to hard would be TAC. Easy would be no LS
  4. to the OP are you talking about something like this to be made into stock? http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/37012 i assume though further development to allow for custom missions would be in order
  5. if you do all the above and do not notice any improvements take a look at process lasso. It is an application where you can force power profiles when running certain applications and it will also leverage priorities to improve system responsiveness given the task you are trying to do. great thing about it is that there is a gaming mode which will force a power scheme which has been designed to maximise performance even on laptops without having to fiddle with power profiles. On top of the gaming mode there is a idle mode which you can set it to a power saving power profile when you are afk from your PC. basically i use idle so it cycles down and turns on core parking when im not using the PC and run the max settings when gaming mode is engaged. i wont post a link to the application as it is geared towards payment (even though there is a free version) but its not hard to find via google. TLDR. it takes the guess work out of troubleshooting laptop power features and also optimises your computer usage especially when multitasking.
  6. this occurs when adjusting Atmspheric density in particular these attributes. basically you are adjusting the size of the blue glow and also the size of the sunset glow on the atmosphere. And from here you can remove the reddish glow from the midday sun if you don't like the effect. _DensityFactorA _DensityFactorB _DensityFactorC _DensityFactorD _DensityFactorE the catch is i don't know how each attribute is used in creating the effects but if you look at the stock values most are floating point numbers and low with he exception of DensityFactorD and E where they are double digit or negative numbers. although best practice is to use the files which were provided with the download as a guide. the idea is not to deviate too far from the stock values and you will achieve good results with variations. for example a value of 1 means that you most likely want to use numbers which are lower than 1 but more than 0 double digit less than 100 and above 0, so on and so forth. from my testing i have found some settings are used as divisors. for example _SpecularPower in the terrain config determines the amount a shine effect on the surface is reduced. Similarly with _DetailDist the lower the number while being less than 1 and greater than 0 determines how far you can see details. for example. 0.01 is a pretty small sphere of detail and 0.00000001 pretty much all of the planet will be detailed as you zoom out. - - - Updated - - - check to see that you have the directory structure GameData\EnvironmentalVisualEnhancements\Plugins from there make sure you have all the dll files in the directory: Atmosphere CityLights EVEManager PQSManager ShaderLoader ShaderReplacer Terrain Utils If everything is fine on your end regarding the files it could be a conflict with another mod which is causing the issue. At that point you might need to start troubleshooting your ksp install.
  7. best thing you guys can try. open your config.cfg file with notepad or equiv. ~ line 74 you should see this I'm using a Logitech like the OP INPUT_DEVICES { Logitech Extreme 3D = 0 } this should match your input devices in dxdiag report. Check the status report of your Controller as well it should report attached. if your device is not found in the dxdiag report then KSP will not be able to see it. if the name is correct in dxdiag and wrong on the config file then its a KSP config write problem. if dxdiag report is showing the wrong name like in your config file and you cannot get it working then it could be a driver issue.
  8. it is odd i loaded the d3d11 version of the game and i dont have that problem. i can tell you my ram usages is about 1.5GB also vram is about the same too. (this is straight stock install with 0 mods). i guess the best thing we can do is set a control for what could be going on. So if you could replicate the conditions i had on my game. - fresh install of the game - start a new game - build a command module and the basic solid fuel booster. - report launch fps - report inflight fps my results are as follows. launcher fps: 60 (vsynced) inflight fps: 53 i have a 3770k @ 4.2Ghz and a 770GTX 4GB 32 GB 1600Mhz ram with no swap files. now to give some theory on what could be happening with manned and unmanned. when you are loading a manned mission you are loading the interiors and kerbals inside as well as the rest of the ship. the reason i suggested the control for the experiment is to reduce the parts and to see how your game reacts to a simple ship. I posted my specs so you may compare to help find what is slowing your performance in game. lastly try this experiment only if you are comfortable in doing so.********** go into control panel > system > advanced system settings make sure you have the advanced tab selected. click on the settings button in the performance section click on the advanced tab click on change on the virtual memory section untick automatically manage paging file size for the system. (or leave unticked if it already is) click on custom size set initial size to 16mb set maximum size to what ever shows as recommended. once you apply this, you will receive a message that windows will not be able to do error reporting with less than 800mb of page files. this warning is mostly for blue screens and you can change it back after you finish the experiment. Now once you have applied the settings restart your PC once restarted play kerbal firstly running the control settings i gave earlier to see if there is any diffference (there shouldnt be) then secondly launch a common style ship you like to use. the longer you play the better the test. once you finish if you go back to the page file page i directed earlier you should see how much pagefile windows has assigned becuase it ran out of RAM and needed more. if the number is a few hundred MB then its not too bad and i have hit another dead end. if it is ~350+ it could be a possible cause of your issues. Note if you do this experiment make sure you change it back to the settings before unless you dont mind the settings as they are. also when windows re sizes the pagefile file on your hard disk/ssd you will notice lag and slow downs. while this takes place and your pc will return to normal once it has finished the resize. I hope there is some help here. p.s one application i use when which i think is a god send. it is called process lasso. it is like an advanced task manager but it has other cool features like setting power profiles for certain applications, setting core parking, application priority, cpu affinity, io priority etc. it has a gaming mode too which will set your PC to high performance and not use its inbuilt CPU balancer on games while balancing other apps. helps for running virus scans while you are playing. i wont post the links here but you can easily google it and install the free version which is not as good as the paid version but still decent. i personally paid for the application after using the free version for a while.
  9. check a few things. CPU usuage GPU usuage VRAM usuage (your card has 512 to 1GB video memory) by that screen shot you are running at ~15 fps and get spikes above that occasionally. personally i think its that your VRam usage is hiting your cards limit.but its only a guess at this point
