1. I have used the Rhino once in career mode: sending a mining/science station to Pol. The ship was over 2000t (and 425 parts) on the pad and the payload travelling to Jool was over 200t in LKO powered by a single Rhino. The craft on the pad cost about 930k of which I recovered 350k when I landed the lifter (6 Mammoths). The conceit for my career is to place a permanent fueling station with a fleet of reusable craft in the Joolian system to support a variety of missions and land on all the moons without having to wait for a transfer window from Kerbin. As I see it, big bases like this are the reward at the end of career when you have filled out the tech tree and money is no longer a limiting factor. The station is still in flight; I'll add more screenshots when I expand the solar array around Pol.
2. The orbital velocity at the apoapsis of a Holmann transfer from Kerbin (if I got my math right) is about 1600m/s. The plane change done there will run you around 2200dV. Without gravity assists, I'd budget at least 7500 dV from LKO to get to that orbit. From solar orbit at Kerbin: Burn Ap to intersect the orbit: 2750 dV Plane change: 2200 dV Burn up Pe: 1606 dV Note: this doesn't include escape from the Kerbin Gravity well.
3. I updated to the latest version (both EVE and the and the Configs) and it's not giving me clouds on 1.0.5/Windows/Steam. I backed up to the earlier release and I have my clouds back. I am not sure what changed but it looks like the new confgs (in the BoulderCo directory) are not loading. - - - Updated - - - BTW, thanks for the awesome mod. The clouds on Kerbin change the whole feel of the game and recently I sent a lander to Eve and sinking into a pool of purple added a lot of mystery as I had no idea where I was going to land.
4. I missed the cutoff... Here it is anyhow... I started in 1.0.4 and stayed with it after 1.0.5 came out; I don't think the new version would have changed things much. Here's what I did: 1. Jeb launches on a booster with some mystery goos. 2. Jeb goes to orbit with goos. 3. Bob drives a cart around KSC with goos and a processing lab. 4. Bob drives a cart around KSC again, this time with thermometer and barometer. 5. Bob flies a small plane to the desert with the full complement of science and lots of thermometers for low atmosphere science. 6. Bob goes to orbit with goos, thermometers and barometers. 7. Bob flies by Mun with goos, thermometers and barometers. 8. Bob flies by Minmus with goos, thermometers and barometers. 9. A small biome hopper probe lands on Mun and hops twice. 10. A small biome hopper probe lands on Minmus and hops twice. Ended on Day 44. The only grindy bit was driving the cart around KSC twice.
5. My 1.0.4 unmanned rover can still survive Eve entry in 1.0.5 though it looks like it might get a touch hotter on the way in. Its small though; the total package after I jettison the engine is only 4t; a 1.4t rover wrapped in a 2.5m heat shield and fairing. I set the Pe to 45km on the way in and hit the atmosphere at about 6 km/sec; it gets pretty toasty with the fairing complaining about overheating, but the whole package survives.
6. Hi all. I've been playing a couple months now and just got around to registering for the forums.
