anyone know if @Matt Lowne has a KerbalX profile? i really want to fly some of his SSTOs
I don't
What SSTO do you want to fly? Up until ~2023 I put craft files in nearly all my video descriptions. Nowadays I prefer encouraging people to build for themselves, which is why I include a timelapse of the build process

Did this hotfix remove the ability to launch KSP 2 directly from the .exe file, forcing us to use the PD launcher? I can no longer launch the game via the .exe, it just loads the PD launcher instead.

This happened to me after landing on the Mun and I think I've fixed it by editing the save file. Here's what I did:
I made a fresh quicksave with F5 and exited the game without saving, and then deleted all of the quicksaves and autosaves except for the most recent quicksave. You will want to open "quicksave_xx.json" where it matches the time you made the quicksave.
Find your vessel in the json file. It will be under AssemblyDefinition -> "assemblyName" and will have some number appended to it. My vessel "Albatross 2" had an assemblyName of "Albatross 2-10".

Under "vesselstate",
- I changed "PhysicsMode" from "AtRest" to "RigidBody"
- I changed "Situation" from "Landed" to "Orbiting"
-
Under "location",
- I changed "LocationType" from "SurfaceCoordinates" to "Orbit"
Now reload and open the vessel in the tracking center, and it should be "in orbit".
Disclaimer: editing savefiles is dangerous! Do this at your own risk!
Absolute legend!

Here's my entry. Unfortunately I live in Freehealthcareland™ so can't actually enter this - hopefully my video can serve as inspiration for others!

anyone else having trouble with loading this after downloading it?
It's a .rar file, use 7zip, Winrar or any other extraction program to open it

I don't know if this is how he did it but this is how I would do it on photoshop. Screenshot each vessel on landing pad twice, one with the fairing and one without. Cut them out in photo shop, layer them on-top and change the transparency of the fairing part. Do this for all 4, add fancy background and voila.
Pretty much! Except I got the craft pictures using the mod Kronal Vessel Viewer

The Eve variant has a heat shield.

Here at Lowne Aerospace® we are very excited to offer a new surface base! This features ample internal cargo and crew capacity, a full-size laboratory kitted-out with every science experiment available, two external viewing platforms, full ore mining and refining capability, a secure rover garage (rover included with purchase) with a closable door and retractable ramp, and a vertical telescopic mobility enhancer (sometimes referred to as a “ladder”) to enable boarding without the need for an EVA pack.
See the catalogue below to select the launcher configuration most suitable for your needs, and then proceed to purchase with the download button below.
Happy colonising!
Disclaimer: Lowne Aerospace® has not definitively proven the landing capabilities of the Universal Surface Base® on any celestial body aside from Tylo. Customer feedback welcomed. Lowne Aerospace is not responsible for any horrific tragedy that may arise from use of the Universal Surface Base®

Mates for what it's worth I didn't invent the concept of rescuing people lol, you don't need my permission to have a community rescue service. I think it's great, actually!

I can’t help but feel partially responsible for some of the hysteria surrounding the KSP 2 move from Star Theory to Intercept, and I am glad that spirits within the dev team remain high. I am disappointed that some viewers interpreted the news as a sign of cancellation or other deterioration of KSP 2’s development. The focus of the reporting (and my video) was to highlight the business side of Take-Two’s hostile acquisition of the KSP 2 development, which is something I still feel is a wholly negative thing and is part of an aspect of the publisher/developer relationship across the games industry that I hope will continue to grow better as the industry matures.
I wish no ill-feelings to any of the KSP 2 developers, and I am still wholeheartedly excited for the sequel. I have no doubt that your collective passion will result in an incredible sequel and I am very excited to see what you and your team produce.

This post didn't age well
I made that post before the DLC was added, which included the parts required for the mission to work. Not to detract from Brad's excellent achievement here though!

I think what you are imagining is completely impossible. Nobody has even made an Eve SSTO with refueling that can operate entirely independently (i.e. make it to Gilly to refuel after Eve takeoff without using a dockable fuel container left in low Eve orbit).
Incorrect, good sir.

SSTO = Single Stage to Orbit. Implied is LKO. Although, if you are on Eve surface then Low Eve Orbit would be implied. Therefore staging (and dropping parts) would be allowed en-route to Eve from LKO, and then again staging from LEO back to Kerbin.
If that's the criteria then Stratzenblitz75 has already done this.
Also if someone claims to have a Tylo SSTO working I'd assume liar until a video is posted proving otherwise, or at the very least pictures. I'm pretty certain that Tylo SSTO is mathematically impossible without refuelling. The only ways are either a) separate Tylo Lander b) IRSU. I and many others have done those missions but there's a reason why nobody has done the "true tylo SSTO".
Happy to be proven otherwise but I don't see how it would be possible in stock.

Congratulations to @Matt Lowne for completing this challenge!
Thanks but why not use one of my better Eeloo missions?
-
Another impossible challenge. There really needs to be a rule that OP has actually verified that what they're asking is possible without mods.

- Stock Asclepius SSTO (Asclepius) - Stock Distinction, Astrokerbal Distinction, Kosmokerbal Commendation
Asclepius is much easier to make a mission to than a lot of stock planets, I think it's an odd system that any modded planet is automatically worth more than any stock planet. A Moho SSTO is way harder than most modded planets, for example. Eeloo isn't much easier either.
-
Mun should be in the same point class as Eve and Duna IMO, atmospheric planets are way easier for landing rovers. Should be 1 point for Minmus, 2 for Mun/Gilly/Ike/Duna/Eve, 2.5 for Laythe/pol/bop/Dres, 3 for Vall, 3.5 for Eeloo, 4 for Moho, 5 for Tylo.
Also, why the heck does a mobile base require one of every fuel tank? Or any fuel capacity at all for that matter. This rule means that every mobile base I've ever made wouldn't qualify. There's far too much stipulation on what modules are required. Give people a little creative freedom here.

Well, only @Matt Lowne can tell which kind of issue he faced and how he solved it.
Hey everyone! I built this on a livestream, here's a link to the full construction:
(disclaimer, my methods for building craft are swearing and angrily insulting everything, but when it finally works I'm happy again. It's just all part of the process

Could you do an SSTO mission where you don't do gravity assists?
I've already done lots of those though. See any of my Minmus/Mun/Duna/Gilly SSTO videos.

@Matt Lowne Why did you stop adding your SSTOs here and just put the dl link in the video description instead?
I keep meaning to update the main image in this thread, just keep forgetting about it. I'll do it eventually!
-
It would actually be pretty easy to beat my record, that SSTO was very heavy so burns were quite long and therefore not the most efficient. Plus the flight to Jool could have been trimmed using better gravity assists.

I see people like Matt Lowne doing amazing things and I try to do similar things and end up never being able to get the simple stuff done
We were all there too at one point. All about practice. Something something the masters have failed more times that students have ever tried. Stick at it, you'll get there one day!

Not to offend, but this is probably fake. No gravity assists whatsoever, and @Matt Lowne has a video showing that @hazard-ish couldn't have gone to Tylo, which is closer, with a single fuel tank using gravity assists. The Delta-V requirements are just too strict.
Tylo is not analogous to Eeloo at all. It's much easier to go to Eeloo than to Tylo. Not to detract from this video, just weighing in that it's not the same. My "Debunk" video was created using complete mathematical evaluation of every point of the mission. If you want to make serious accusations of faking then you need to at least crunch the numbers. And this doesn't include personal anecdotes. I haven't watched the video to the extent that I'd be willing to support one view or the other, but just from the concept alone I would expect this to be possible.

I saw this post because of the ping lol, I made a Eve tutorial video if it helps! But you should have definitely already visited every other planet/moon before trying, it's BY FAR the hardest place to do a return mission from (and it's not even close)
