I have the same exact issue. I confirm it happens after installing RSS. I clean-installed KSP 1.73 with only RSS 16.4.0 along with its dependencies from ckan. I had the same issue in KSP 1.3.1 as well. EDIT!: I was wrong. It happens on stock KSP also (v1.7.3.2594).

It means it is not supported by RO. If that part has fuel tanks/engines, it probably won't work, for instance, liquid fuel won't be converted into KEROLOX. If it is a "passive" component like a structural part, the difference will be the weight, the sizes, probably its drag values etc.

I only ever played RSS and RO. I switched version from 1.1.2 to 1.2.2 because performance was unbearable, even on my new PC, and wanted to just test fps etc on stock 1.2.2 and compare it with 1.1.2 stock. I built a 5 minute rocket and I found myself "dancing" that rocket on the surface of the Mun 15 minutes later, before landing on various locations on it. It was that easy. I didn't design the first rocket to land to mun since I wanted only to test performance of the game, so with no fuel left for coming back, I felt pity for my Kerbals and sent a rescue mission... The "boring" performance test turned out to be quite fun indeed, and kept on a bit longer than original expected. Fortunately enough, next day, RO came out for 1.2.2 and it looks just amazing! Back to rebuilding and upgrading my rocket collection from 1.1.2

I ran v 1.2.2 with two cores enabled (I can only disable pairs of cores with RyzenMaster, didn't try through BIOS) and didn't see much of a drop in FPS with low part vessels, I was always above 56 FPS, but didn't test higher part vessels to stress the CPU a bit more. I tried changing number of cores assigned to KSP through affinity. It was better with 2 processing units working on KSP rather than with any other combination. But the best results were with all six cores enabled by default (12 processing units enabled) But it was a great improvement just by switching versions, even with a lot of plugins installed (2.08 Gigs of GameData and about 4 minutes of loading the game). I also managed to run my memory @ 2993MHz, so I will make some more tests. Unfortunately for me though, I cannot switch to 1.2.2 yet, since RO is still a WIP for 1.2 and things are not quite playable... So I have to stick with 1.1.2 for now and bare with the lag...

I made a test with a 410 part /98 engines rocket, in 1.1.2 RSS + Ro and had 5 FPS on launchpad and 1 to 4 after launch. I also built the same simple two stage, 28 parts rocket in both 1.1.2 and 1.2.2 stock. The results were constant 30 FPS on 1.1.2 and constant 60 FPS on 1.2.2. 30 FPS for just changing KSP version. As Pena, LoSBoL and lancefoxcia said, there is huge difference between the two versions in terms of performance. I never thought it would be double the FPS. I did expect some improvement, but not that much. PT, I will build a 255 stock parts rocket in 1.2.2, post FPS on Launchpad and after launch, and share it if anybody wants to check their FPS with that one..

My memory is Corsair 3200 Vengeance, currently running stable at 2400. I am updating to 1.2.2, and up to this point I have installed all the dependencies of Realism Overhaul and RSS and a few that are absolutely minimum for me, and already have 1.75 Gb of Game Data. I will try it tomorrow and see how it goes.

Hi PT, thanks for the input! I would't dare play without Kerbal Joint reinforcement. Once, it broke, and all my rockets/ships broke with it... Part welding is a tool that is probably going to help me a lot, since I do use a lot of parts. I will definitely try this one. HWinfo always runs behind my games to ckeck things, that's why I said that it is like not utilizing the GPU at all, and the CPU is not to busy either. As for my memory, it's 2x8G Vengence DDR4, it shouldn't be the problem. LoSBol, probably i am going to update my install, i don't see how I can avoid it anymore. I have already many installs with different mods for different ships, but I finally got to the point that I have all my satellites in place, my stations etc, in this particular install. And 1.2.2 is still a pain to install all Realism overhaul related mods, but probably the only way...

Starman4308 Thanks for the suggestions and info as well. I will try MemGraph and keep it in mind for next installs, i hadn't heard of it before. As for the part count, I have spent hours deleting unused parts from my mods, and stripped them down to my necessaries. As you said, with lower part rockets, things are ok, but with the bigger ones, i drop to 2 -10 fps

Thanks for the suggestion... Deep down, I know that this will definitely have an improvement impact. I hoped to avoid it, but I don't think I can avoid it forever... I will give it a try though, and check my mod lists

It was time to upgrade my PC, so I went for a Ryzen 5 1600 + Sapphire rx580 Nitro+ Limited Edidtion, and kept my Samsung 850 EVO I was and am playing 1.1.2, Modded with RSS+RO + essential mods + a few more. KSP on the new PC is just a folder copy from the old PC (same install). Game loading improved greatly, with about 9 minutes on the old PC vs 2:30 to 3 minutes on the new, but everything else feels almost the same... Same launchpad loading times, same frame drop on flying bigish rockets, etc. VAB is a bit more responsive, but everything else feels kind of same. I didn't try a stock install, only modded. My RX580 doesn't start the fans until it is pushed and start heating, and it never ever started the fans while playing KSP, and CPU was at 48C max temp. As if both CPU and GPU were not utilized at all... I also play ME Andromeda, which runs perfect with most settings on ultra high (as opposed to before, were it was straggling and glitching with the lowest settings) To the question. Is there something that I can do to have some improvement on performance on KSP? Some setting etc to utilize my new system better? Maybe newer KSP versions like 1.2 will run better? I keep 1.1.2 for MOD compatibility, as I will have to rebuild most of my rockets if I change KSP version, and I try to avoid it. I spent hours and hours on building and fine-tunning my rockets and editing cfgs, have loads of orbiting satellites, and i am terrified to the idea of starting over, due to some not updated mods that I currently use) ****IMPORTANT NOTICE: DO NOT COMPARE INTEL & AMD HERE PLEASE. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I am playing RSS+RO etc, and I've built a lot of shuttles. Some didn't even launch, some failed to orbit, and some did go to a good orbit, but none of them could reenter. It was this mod that got me through reentry and to a successful landing!!! Well, the wheels did brake when I touched the ground (-2m Vertical speed, 240 horizontal), but eventually I was able to land the orbiter on it's belly! Big Smiles for me and my Fearless Kerbals, but the poor engineers had to replace the tiles! My only problem is that the exhaust fumes cover the shuttle. They seem like they start from the middle of the ship rather than from the SRBs and SSME nozzles. Anyone has the same? Everything else works great, and this is not actually visible from all viewing angles, so you can leave it on a viewing angle that you see the ship. I'll dig the configs to see if a can find anything I am also having a difficult time doing the roll program after launching, anyone doing it smoothly? Some advice? Great looking, fun to play and capable of re-entry! Great work!

Sorry for not answering your question, but I'd love to see this fly! I tried to built it too but my CPU cannot handle the engines as well. Frame rate goes to unplayable before the game crashes... Anyway, interesting project to discuss -

After almost completely disassembling the whole ship, rebuiding and removing everything from inside the cargo bay, I can only assume it was some part messing it all up. I stopped getting this weird CoM thing. Now I only need to manage flying it... It's unbelievably difficult. Thanks guyz, time to fly!!! -

Thanks guys for the suggestions, I'll try both when I get back home and let you know! I'll try resizing the Wings, it's the only resized part on my space shuttle. Now that I remember, I removed the wings for a test, but it had the same reaction. I will check again if I had something else resized. My other rockets & Satellites are heavilly resized though, and don't have the same problem. -
So, I’ve been playing KSP with RSS + RO + most recommended mods some time now, and I thought to give it a try to build and fly a space shuttle. I used MK3 parts, rescaled Big S Delta wings with the Elevons for control, RS-25D Engines, AJ10-190 for the OMS, ET and SRBs from RSB. It has enough dV and TWR, and i managed to get in orbit but... I had no control over it when that happened (every time), and I couldn't see it... Actually, after it gets a couple hundred dV after launch, it starts loosing focus on the screen, that is, the vehicle slowly goes away, and I need to zoom out to be able to see it (in every camera mode), and after a while, the craft is so far away from the center of the screen that it looks smaller than a coin on my screen. Finally, the moment it gets in orbit it starts spinning like crazy. The weird part is that it does a "spiral" around its orbit line, like a spring stretched around earth. It spins away from my screen, in orbit, and there is no way to stop spinning or focus to it... RCS did nothing, I added a reaction wheels just to check, nothing. I EVAed my pilot and the moment she was out the craft it disappeared into the dark (or blue when I was facing to earth). I removed the wings, the elevons, the tail, removed the gimbal of SRBs, nothing again. I even tried going straight up... Everything else flies great. I have a relay of three geostationary communication satellites, I 've launched Apollo missions to the moon, I flew a custom Ariane, I've built my LV and testing it and it flies pretty good, so I cannot imagine the game is broken somehow. What could possibly do this behavior? Forgive me if I am in the wrong section here Since this is my first post, I would like to thank the Developers of the game, and all Modders out there, for making and contributing to such a great game, that actually makes you think and read and learn and have great fun!!

Hi, there will come the day that you will get a huge satisfaction from getting into a correct orbit, that's for sure. Stock was easy once you got the basics but RSS + RO, damn it's difficult... I ended up reading more than playing, anytime I run KSP for the first couple of months :). But when you get everything, t's gonna be really easy to get a good orbit and more, despite how hard it seems... You will have to do a lot of reading and a lot or youtubing... Be sure to read the RO Wiki https://github.com/KSP-RO/RealismOverhaul/wiki/False-KSP-Lessons, very very helpfull, especially the part with the delta V, I think it was ferram's launch vehicle. You will need 10000 dV or more just to orbit. Also a starting TWR of 1.30 - 1.70. Less is underpowered, more is Overpowerd. Both situations are not good. Check your Saturn's dV when building. in total, it should be around 13000 to 17000 with a starting TWR of aroung 1.50. Take apart your Saturn V, stage by stage to better understand the dV of each stage... Mine is about 16800 dV and 1.56 TWR. Also, be sure to check the engines from right click on them and hit the engine button. Different variations have different ISPs, anf the same aplies to fuel tanks and fuel... Be sure to match the fuel used to the engine. Just dig around the options and you will get how to do it. (that is if you don't already know ;)) Mechjeb is your friend. Use him... Delta-V stats will help you understand your needs in terms of how many engines you need, more or less fuel etc., when building. They also provide a good info on how much time your engine will run, to achieve the dV it has... Take proceadural tanks, put some engines, fill 'em up, and rescale to see the dV changes. More engines is not always better... There has to be a balance... Watch out for your Vertical Speed, Ap and Time to Apospasis <= Very crucial to making a successful orbit... This is a great video to watch for understanding how to get a propper launch and a propper orbit. I am playing for about 3 months now, RSS + RO + other compatible mods, and needed a lot of time until I managed to do it properly. Now I am trying to put 3 Communication satelites in Geo Orbit in a Triangle120 Degrees from each other, to make communications ouside earth possible, for my next mission... -
