Corsair Propeller driven aircraft
Abraxsas replied to Abraxsas's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Sadly, no... I think replacing the sound file with say, a static jet engine noise might work well. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! ah, i've phys warped by accident! Brrrrrrrrr! *Explosions* Hello -
I have an updated Craft list, a few actually... I have the list pasted in level of importance https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7Q5NPUcsUYkenZHZlplVUI0WFk -Spacecraft (try looking at this) https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7Q5NPUcsUYkTGZpOHpab1lFZU0 -Polaris Industries Spacecraft (see if you can look at this) https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7Q5NPUcsUYkZHd2VS0ya3dQOGM -Ground Vehicles (do this if you need something diffrent) https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7Q5NPUcsUYkUzVURlBaTnZybDQ -Space stations (if you really want to...) https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7Q5NPUcsUYkYkw4UTZFZVlQa1E -Aircraft (Don't need to look at)

Hello! Sorry for the late response, I was busy with school and didnt really have time for anything else. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjYuqnp1spBCg_IPDHdUy_A There is my youtube channel, right now it's just a bunch of Airsoft stuff but I have a few KSP vids lined up involving combat situations and a few craft review things for a couple of ships. (+me landing the C7 Highliner) Right now there taking up space on my SSD so i'll upload them soon. I think reviewing or cross reviewing your crafts would be awesome and I would be honored to do so. I have a mic and I am comfortable using it so thats a plus. Again sorry for the late response, I hope you are having a wonderful evening/day.

Awesome!

Hey, is there any way I can get involved in the reviewing process of these crafts? I am tying to get more experience with video editing, I already have adobe premier and a basic understanding of how to use it so I have the tools to make some pretty cool videos. I have about 1000 hours give or take a day or two in KSP so I would say i'm pretty skilled. I noticed another person who was asking about helping out with craft reviews so if you already have any help you would need covered that's fine. I also have a rather powerful computer and I can forward you my specs if you like to use me in rendering although I would be superfluous to basically uploading to YouTube. I really just want to help you with this series in any way that I can and it would be awesome if I could do so.

Thank you so much! There was more to the craft description like toggle able flaps and a ladder but that was just about it. Thanks for the advice on the craft, I'll be sure to replace the I bet warheads with simpler misses.

I do not believe he accepts modded craft, only stock ones.

Corsair Propeller driven aircraft
Abraxsas replied to Abraxsas's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I would take a closer look at the wing structure and radiator intakes. They are the closer things i could model from the plane. I did taper off the back of the wings to look nice with the structural intakes that emulate the radiators. That is the biggest inaccuracy by far so that is the main thing that detracts from the original as well as the delta wing horizontal and vertical stabilizers. I can see how it would be unrecognizable from the common corsair. I based some of the design aspects off of it but not all. he fact that it looks similar is why I called it that, and also I was struggling to name it so i looked at my corsair case and named it that. -

The craft is loosely based off of the WWII Naval fighter. Look up F4U corsair and it looks similar to what i have created more or less... Oh, you answerd for me -
@The Optimist I found your craft very interesting with the use of the jet engines exhaust to power the engine but I as well found it difficult to take off with. I also like how you used the Stayputnik at the front to stabilize the engine. Although, I think you could remove an engine or two used for lift primarily and focus on making the engine more powerful with Big s elevons. Also try to actually attach the wings and landing gear. It makes the craft look like a bunch of floating parts I really like the engine design overall and I would love to see a smaller version. Edit: Never-mind, got it flying...

Alright, new version is out with larger gear and a few engine tweeks... https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7Q5NPUcsUYkTXNJUWNFTTNIMEU/view?usp=sharing The topic has been edited and the craft is shared. Ok, the final, final, final version is out. Sorry about the confusion... -
Corsair Propeller driven aircraft
Abraxsas replied to Abraxsas's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Yeah I know, I am making a new version with larger front landing gear. I might change out the rear one too. I have compensated for the wobble as best as I can but the engine RPM is just too high and if I switched out the propeller blades it negativity affects speed. I think adding more fixed landing gear is the solution to the wobble. It may make it worse but two sets right on the Sputnik might help. A way to avoid the propeller smash is to have the craft set to SAS while accelerating on the runway and to switch to the plane and pull up when it becomes level. Again, this can probably be avoided by having taller gear so i'll add some. -

The RPMs are already quite high already compared to some of my other engine designs. The battery banks on the front are for locking the engine in place so that it dose not come out of alignment but I suppose I only need one pair. Having two pairs of interlocking battery banks combined with the back plate and fixed landing gear inside the engine I guess it is a bit superfluous. The propeller blades I guess could be changed out but I have done a lot of testing with them and they seem to be the best for using the rotational energy produced by the engine. Not too draggy but keep the engine RPMs in check at a constant rate. Besides they are the biggest they can be right behind the Big-S flaps so I really cant go any bigger without extending the engine by using a second housing for the bigger propellers. Even further some other smaller propellers I used just generate too little lift and would just flutter and spin, allowing the engine to hit it's max RPM, producing little to no thrust for the craft. Also for size to drag, the elevons I am using have the highest lift value assigned to them so they are the best choice for this sort of thing. The engine has a max RPM at about 5-7 per second depending on velocity. I think this is caused by the fixed landing gear interacting with the housing creating friction but the dampening effect is minimal but just enough to have it not gradually accelerate. -
At least he knew the basics on how to operate it. I have another craft that may interest you. @8bitgammers Like the one you just reviewed, this one is a propeller craft as well...

Corsair Propeller driven aircraft
Abraxsas replied to Abraxsas's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
The engine or the craft? The craft, I mean it is what it is, but if you have any suggestions for the engine I am wondering what I could do to improve it other than adding a couple Junos... -
Corsair Propeller driven aircraft
Abraxsas replied to Abraxsas's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
YES! Exactly, it is added to help control the craft as well because of the large amount of wing surfaces on the craft. Also because at times the engine can become a little wonky. They are not entirely necessary but they help. The craft was originally supposed to be a jet so don't expect the craft to be perfect. This was mainly a test of the engine and I want to share my progress with others. -
I have made a listing for my craft on the craft exchange. Once you get around to doing something of mine again would you mind taking a look at this in particular?

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7Q5NPUcsUYkTXNJUWNFTTNIMEU/view?usp=sharing A inspired design resembling that of Archaic Alibi's Propeller driven plane, with a bull-pup engine fitted to one of my existing craft. A jet picked at random and a bit of a redesign later and I ended up with this beautiful thing. The original jet was modeled after the WWII era naval fighter so what better to carry a propeller engine It has a electric powered SAS driven radial like engine locked by two sets of 1K batteries on the end of the fuselage. A few general statistics Takeoff Speed: 25 M/s Max Speed: Level flight 40~M/s SAS Torque Engine: 85 Armament: 2 Dumb fire/ Guideable I-beam Warheads Part Count: 170 Mass: A little under 8 tonnes [7.983t]

I wouldn't get to mad at him. I believe he will still give your craft a look. After reviewing a few other peoples craft could you please take a look at this craft specifically? It is called the Corsair Mk1 Variant I have gone back a couple versions and added a radial propeller engine. Would you give it some feedback? A mildly detailed operation guide on how to start it is in the craft's description in the SPH I really also made this craft as a proof of concept for propeller driven craft so it's nowhere near entirely safe to fly. That being said, it's normally supposed to use a jet engine as propulsion but I cobbled together a rotary like engine and slapped it onto the front and it can at least fly, but it really only does that. I have never been able to get it up past 750m in altitude and it is very easy to stall, having heavy I beam missles/bombs and being very heavy in weight (you may want to turn on infinite electricity) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7Q5NPUcsUYkNTZuUFFvWDI3UTQ/view?usp=sharing

You are completely right, I have never armor tested it. Never really got around to it I guess. I rarely use armor panels on my craft so a lot of them are particularly week.
-
Why thank you. I will definitely look into adding more RCS ports on it! A few pointers, the turret on the bottom from the camera angle is able to be uncoupled and aimed freely regardless of ship orientation. this can be done by un-docking the docking ports in the framework of the turret. Adding on to that, the SRB warhead/torpedo thingys I made are supposed to be un-docked and reattached to the front of the aimable turret so that it can be used in the same way. Also, the SRB torpedos are meant to be twin linked so that they fire in tandem. I have no idea how they became separate stages but whatever. The Craft obviously needs a description so my bad there. The aimable turret can also be locked again by quick saving and quick loading, without accelerating of course. Sorry again for not leaving a vehicle description.

I have a few ships that you could review. (about 75) https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B7Q5NPUcsUYkUzZCZW5kUElONHc You don't need to review every single one. (of course you don't) Just pick one, maybe two for you to review if you are at all interested. Edit: I have few more propeller driven aircraft and a few tanks as well. Let me know if you would be interested in seeing those.
