Ok then. The mission had other problems too. The design had trouble getting to 350km, (I think it would work better if I went to LKO first, instead of going directly to 350km), I accidentally took a whole orange tank of oxidizer with me, so I should change that to use the LV-N I added for this mission more effectively, actually fit 3 comm satellites in the payload bay, and not fail the landing.

Screwball! I don't appear here much! @munlander1. He seems to be every second or third post.
-
Ok then. Thank you both!

Where would I find the direct image URL on imgur

How do you insert an image into your signature? I have a badge from a challenge I would like to insert into my signature

What is the user above you known for?

My first attempt at the fuel tank to orbit mission: total disaster, broke the launch pad and the tracking station, needs more thrust. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0eMT8zRijNmZVlkakQ2RnFKZFE Edit: Second attempt: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0eMT8zRijNmTHpLcjFFd1ZJOUE I got it to orbit, apoapsis~116,900, periapsis ~116950, re-entered and undershot the runway, landed in the hills to the west of the KSC, and rolled all the way there to park next to R&D.

The base looks great!

I think I will eventually try again, just with heatshields. I could have tried to slow down with the nuclear engine, but it would have taken too long, and I had backed myself into a corner where it was either Laythe orbit/ground or a head on collision with Jool. I was thinking I was lucky that Jeb and Bill would consistently survive and there were no other kerbals in the other cockpit.

Meet Columbia, my space shuttle. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0eMT8zRijNmeU50XzkxNEVzNms (Pictures) These pictures show the first mission documented for this challenge. It has had a few other missions and some variations and payloads built for it though. I am not good at landing it yet. I was panicking about running out of runway (and forgetting the parachutes) and decided it would be a good idea to nose down hard. It broke the runway and the left wing, which made it crash. Then I went to space center, the game glitched, and apparently it had saved during the initial impact and the shuttle was sitting untouched on a broken section of runway. I could try again if necessary, but I think the shuttle design works well, I'm just a terrible pilot atm. My space shuttle is a bit larger than usual shuttles I think. It has a mk-3 passenger module, 4 mk-3 monoprop tanks, a mk-3 rocket fuel tank, and 2 CRG-100 cargo bays. This is not a full parts list by the way. Edit: forgot mod list. Used for this mission: Kerbal Engineer Redux Trajectories Will be used for later missions: Kerbal Alarm Clock Probably will not use later KAS/KIS kOS

Where are we going to put the base anyway?

If you want to use some fuel from my ascent stage, I have a mk-2 clamp o tron on the space plane, and I'll probably leave it in orbit for a while. I don't think it will be able to ssto at laythe, but I also didn't know that it would be able to get to laythe either, or that the design it is based on is theoretically able to circumnavigate kerbin until I tried. It has 2 14400 tanks worth of LFO (who knew that an actual gravity turn would save a 14400 tank worth of fuel? In previous launches I had waited to pitch down until 20000m before because the launch stack is VERY aerodynamically unstable. This launch even had it flip on the way! I think it is a little overbuilt) left, and at least 240 units of mono prop left. If you don't want it, I could use it for the interplanetary burn, but go ahead if you need it. I still have to design a heat shield to allow for aerobraking myself. Edit: by the way, I have a space shuttle style spaceplane that can bring over 100 kerbals to LKO if you need it.

You're certainly going to do better than I did. I should probably have brought a heat shield, now that I think about it. Just give me a minute. I think I am going to launch another airplane 1.0.1 to LKO for now. Edit: finished, and the ascent stage has quite a bit of Liquid Fuel, Oxidizer, and Monopropellant. It is in LKO if anyone needs it, just don't take from the plane itself of course. I will get the plane to LLO when I design a heatshield for it.

Thanks, I'll try it when I have the time. It's already in orbit of Jool if you want to check it out, it's the craft in an elliptical and inclined orbit around Jool. edit: it worked, but the spaceplane seems to have been destroyed, probably by collision with tylo. I hope no one minds if I splice a backup into the save file Edit 2: Apparently Laythe reentry at 4600 m/s, periapsis at 30000 m, will destroy the wings, intakes, jet engines, and the front inline cockpit. So i'm just clueless for what I should do about that, but now we have a water base on Laythe with some extra monopropellant. And Jeb and Bill. We might want to rescue them. I am using Mcafee on Windows 10. When I was downloading it mcafee scanned it and blocked it from downloading because it detected a virus. I tried it twice with the same result.
-
My antivirus program is saying the save file has a virus in it. I think we have a problem
-
I'll try to land my spaceplane somewhere on Laythe after scanning for ore with a probe, assuming I find the time. I have an idea for the orbit correction as well.
-
I think I might give the final maneuvering of the jet into LLO another attempt tomorrow. Anyone want to start on the base itself? I could probably attempt it, but it would be another first for me, the interplanetary travel being the first one. I also could attempt a surface scan of the planet with my probe. Suddenly I am coming up with a lot of ideas for this.
