The folly in using nature to predict the forms of sapient aliens
grawl replied to -Velocity-'s topic in Science & Spaceflight
Well, you'll never know until you open the box ... -
Can robots function present equations, analyze results, provide answers ?

What have you learned to do without an autopilot?
grawl replied to Starhawk's topic in KSP1 Discussion
All of them, but gravity assist. I tend to let fate decide if I'll be lucky enough to get that Jool moon assist or not. So, despite I already made it, I do not consider I've "learned" to do it. I didn't learn anything from an autopilot. -
Do you play KSP with the Steam or the KSP Store version?
grawl replied to CaptRobau's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I play KSP through the KSP store. I bought it way before the Steam version was released, and didn't take the hassle to transfer it. Also, even if I truly like Steam, I like much more the "direct contact" feel you got from downloading the update directly from developer's website, 't keeps things the indie way -
Rosetta, Philae and Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.

Am I the only one that thought No, J like Jeb ! ? -
What style do you want the SLS parts to be?
grawl replied to Comrade Jenkens's topic in KSP1 Discussion
A nice blend between Kerbal style and Human style would be awesome. Like, serious parts, but a bit patched* up as well -
Hello, I don't know if anybody thought about it and, probably, a bad idea ... But.. Wouldn't slamming one of Mars' satellites on its surface be able to "reactivate" the planet ? (mind the quotes ) I'm thinking about making the core of the planet move a bit. With some luck, and with a lot of time we could get free terraforming and beautiful lakes on Mars

Sending back a signal you received is a good way to tell "We've got it!" , don't you think? It can come from the signal reflecting/refracting, but then I guess it would loose a lot of its power and almost disappear. Or, and maybe the most probable option, we won't be able to tell what it means. Some calls for help might as well be hidden in the mess of waves we receive when a cataclysmic event occurs in the universe. Food for thought, isn't it ?

I've got no mods on my install, because, when I think about installing one (think protractor for example ), I don't take the hassle to restart the game, my play time is "optimized", sadly :/ it just takes too long. And the next time I start the game, usually a bunch of days later, I've totally forgot about it, and then it starts again ! True story !

Nice one !

In this movie, a tiny supermassive star is heading towards earth and will inevitably suck it in its gravity field. So no hope in staying underground. Might as well enjoy the show on the surface Haa, the smell of gamma rays in the morning...

I think the beach ball analogy is not that bad. Drown it entirely, then take it out. A small layer of water will stay on the ball (the ball is "wet").=> Here is our atmosphere. Start to spin it, slowly. => Here is the rotation of our planet. Result => The wet layer stays still on the ball. Maybe the moves of the water molecules look a lot like actual high altitude air currents Of course, if you spin it too fast, or too long, the model will fail, as the water is much more impacted by "local" gravity - your bathroom is not 0g - than the real atmosphere. A bit of imagination is needed as well to enjoy this experiment

Research & Development Overview *Permanent Update Thread
grawl replied to Synapse86's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
This is exactly what I needed. Thank you sir ! -
I remember the first time I landed on the moon ! My landing wings snapped ! Or was it the time my engine went 100ft underground ? Starting retro burn around 5000m isn't enough apparently

I'd go for education, as a lack of education is clearly the cause of all the mistakes humankind made and will make. With education, you got a people that gets the long term policies. With education, you got a people that can actually diverge from the "nature induced" behaviours (you know, "I've got the biggest [insert noun here]", all that). With education, you got a people that knows why letting other people die in front of your eyes is not good for the general interest. With education, you got a people that can work on better cures. With education, you got a people that understands why it is not productive to fight each other. With education, you got a people that does not feel the need to relieve on a greater power. Education mates, education.

Juno to test unexplained slingshot maneuver accelerations
grawl replied to GeneCash's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I'd go for the 4th solution -
The best is at 4:30 45°

You can still use them to make great fireworks for kerman's president birthday party

I, as well, think carreer mode will not be restrictive. You will start with a bunch of low-tech parts and a small budget. Achieving missions that you plan on your own (sattelite in keosynchronous orbit, rover on Duna, etc... ) will earn you achievements - obvious isn't it? - points and a budget increase. These points will unlock new parts, and the budget increas will allow you to use these more expensive parts. I think, at least in its first expression, the carreer mode will be a progressive sandbox. You won't be able to start a colony on Laythe on the first mission. That is IF you play carreer mode. If you play sandbox mode, nothing stops you from doing it. However, it is only how I envisioned it. One cool thing would be a scripted carreer mode, working like the scenarios module (briefing and other objects than the ones you launched in orbit). It would alow players to develop third party campaigns ! Cheers!

This is my try. I've tried to stay stylish AND equilibrated. And it is safe for the 2 kerbals that can drive it :) Drives like a charm with 2 wheels rear drive and front direction. Otherwise it tends to flip over at 18 m/s when making a continuous turn. Recovers on its own... Most of the time. It hasn't got anywhere yet but the space center for a test drive.

what version of the game did you download first?
grawl replied to duncan1297's topic in KSP1 Discussion
First version I downloaded was .13 Btw, it's nice to see there are peaks in the (statisticaly representative?) sales at key releases -
I agree, that's my way of spelling it too
