  1. And here he is to knock me off my perch! I swear someone is following me? I figured that going straight up for the first 2km would be quicker as my design has little tiny wings. When I went for the gentle climb angle it actually was slower.... I am glad you had some fun @neistridlar anyway..... Righy - onto the next aero challenge (FYI - I am coming for you on the speed run, by optimizing my design I have got it 790m/s while keeping it as a plane rather than a capsule with a load of engines)
  2. Ya, no worries. Just having a friendly dig Now, how long until someone knocks me off my perch? I will be impressed if someone can get to 20km with a single Juno as my minimalist craft lacked TWR to keep climbing past 10km. Bigger wings = more lift but lower TWR
  3. To make this, you would also need to make Kerbin the center of the system and have Kerbol and all the planets go around Kerbin... I wish someone would make the flat Kerbin mod, to the exact specs of flat-tard models just to prove how silly they are..... Then it could change into something actually fun by making it a Discworld mod, put Kerbin on the back of 4 elephants standing on the shell of a giant space turtle - so we can launch missions to find out the turtle's gender?
  4. Andetch Entry So I will kick this off - although the OP should really have put the first submission on. @dundun92 2,000M - 1:22 5,000M - 2:59 8,000M - 5:15 10,000M - 6:42 Craft cruises at 10,000M just fine, and comes down for a landing just a-ok. https://kerbalx.com/Andetch/Juno-High
  5. No, I simply put moar engines on it. I initially used a Mk1 capsule also to try and claim I wasn't copying but ditched the idea. I am still learning the finer points of ksp drag. For example it is only recently that I have started putting anger onto wings etc. (After reading a guide in the original KEA thread)
  6. Glad you didn't see the contracts to buy my 16 engined giant cat!! Lol
  7. It will take a better ksp engineer than me to do it. Even climbing to nearly 20km and nose diving didn't work.
  8. Even by shamelessly copying @neistridlar I can't break 800..... yet again, I yield.... **takes beer... Meh, this is warm now. **grabs a cold one
  9. Not functional as a plane though.... Yes, I was certainly expecting you to fire back. Now, if you wouldn't mind holding my beer.......
  10. I tried putting a load of junos along the wing also, but you're quite right the air becomes an issue, small circular intakes don't take enough air at speed. Then supersonic intakes are either heavy or long, so they don't work with minalmist designs. Subsonic intakes choke at high speed. Yeah, I am trying to squeeze 30 m/s more from it. 30 m/s doesn't sound a lot, but in these designs it is a huge amount. I guess I should be happy with my achievement here, and happier still that I misread the leader board initially causing me hours of frustration but ultimately making me push on until i got the results I was going for (notice it is only 1 m/s faster than target - no way I was waiting for even 2 m/s)
  11. My entry - so because I am a fool, I was trying to compete with the probe entries with a manned craft, but I hit my goal of faster than @neistridlar (probe entry) by 1m/s then I pulled out of the dive as water was fast approaching (and I wanted to beat him because I know how good he is at this sort of thing, it's a sign of respect mate!). I found in testing doing things like putting it on a cart for takeoff (so not having wheels on the plane), and changing the control surfaces did do things to the speed (but not much), as well as changing the engine layout (I know I could get similar speeds with fewer engines) but I like this design as it also functions well as a flyable aircraft. I promised the aggressive styling and pointy nose that is known for Andetch aircraft, and I feel I have delivered. @RealKerbal3x 785.3 m/s - #1, no? https://kerbalx.com/Andetch/Juno-Speed
  12. I know my next challenge. Gotta make a really aggressive styled pointy nose manned juno craft that goes faster than Neistridlar's one.... No sleep for me tonight
  13. The Event Horizon This is my first attempt at recreating a ship from the movies. Sadly you have to cheat it into the position where it should be, as I can't create a stock drive that creates a black hole. It is also not 100% accurate, as I said, this is my first attempt, but I feel that it retains the look and feel of the ship it is based on. https://kerbalx.com/Andetch/Event-Horizon The Event Horizon carries an experimental propulsion system that should allow her to travel between the stars in an instant. However, on her maiden voyage something went wrong and she just disappeared from radar, assumed lost. Then one day she reappeared, in a low Eeloo orbit. (Or even better, a Jool orbit with a PP within the atmosphere so it decays, but I took the pictures from Eeloo) Build your own Lewis and Clark, and get out to Eeloo to find out where she has been all these years! For those who do not know the film, go and watch it - it is a MUST for all Sci-Fi lovers, or check the wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Event_Horizon_(film) EDIT: It should also be noted that it doesn't need all those engines - I just felt I should give it a high TWR. It actually goes quite well with just two of the engines, with nearly 4k dV.
  14. What I mean by that is that the chute is set to deploy when I stage to break up my SSTO rocket, allowing the bottom part to come back to the surface without a probe core. I do like reusable, recoverable stuff. But I like spaceplane designs more because they're so much harder to build at this tech level! Although, someone here has nearly got one to Duna, so maybe not as hard as I thought.
  15. It would be a fantastic way of making a base/ship before you even send Kerbals to it!
  16. I've tried recreating turbo pumped's design also. Never got anywhere near with my attempts... although I really want to see a caveman spaceplane on a Dina flyby seeing as ManEatingApe nearly got there. It must be possible. With the exact right transfer....
  17. Yeah, and I still haven't been able to re-create it!!! I hope from the inspiration you're working on an entry?
  18. Not true at all. I and many others can make Caveman Tech SSTO Spaceplanes that both launch from, and land on the level 1 runway.
  19. Type KAT "Chalduro" Update We're pleased to announce that we finally updated the Chalduro to address some handling issues reported by KEA. We will perform modifications on the existing fleet of Chalduro's free of charge, based on KEA's promise to order more (range is enough to go from any one point on Kerbin to another, remember? Useful plane now you can turn it). As a reminder to pilots, it lifts off around 50m/s but it is unwise to do lots of turns until you're nearer 100 m/s. Fly with SAS engaged. If/when you spin out (it can be deliberately span by using the yaw control or thrown around excessively) just disengage the SAS, release the control stick and cut the engine. When the nose settles into a dive near the prograde above 50 m/s turn SAS back on. Pull out of the dive, adding throttle as needed to re-enter level cruise flight. As a reminder. the vital stats are: Cruise Level <6500m Range <3,400KM Cruise Level >1000m Range <1,500KM Cruise Angle 5 degrees. Rotate 40 m/s Liftoff >50m/s Landing <40m/s 1 - Thrust Reverse Toggle 0 - Toggle Engine Price 20,706,000 Can be pushed off tall buildings, cliffs or mountains in lieu of a runway. https://kerbalx.com/Andetch/Andetch-Type-KAT-Chalduro We would also like to remind pilots that the pointy end should be pointed forwards. If you get confused, just don't look at the wings!
  20. I'm not a judge - just a thread enthusiast. There is really only one way to tell - get it flying as best as you can, test it for all it's potential flaws and try and sort them out, then submit it and see.
  21. High maintenance cost. Would be offset if it carries enough passengers or performs very well.
  22. With enough yaw authority a single engine on one side should be okay...... At least, that's what we tell ourselves here because we don't like doing recalls and that may mean bad news for my NestRider....... No hurry though, probably got until the end of the year to correct the fault
  23. You will have to take my word that I made SSTO and back.. didn't even plan to get as close to KSC as I did, it was only as I was gliding over the desert west of KSC at 30KM and 1900 m/s that I thought I would try and make it near KSC.... Crashed just short of the runway... but..... I have made another Spaceplane, similar to my first but as they say in Thailand, "same same but different" No way near getting to Duna though, only just makes orbit..... and in orbit you have to deal with the COM/COT differential..... but meh... enjoy.
