  1. Don't give up, docking is really difficult to master. I did it abou a dozen times and I still get beaten. Last time I had to work my docking over Mun for about half an hour and 2 tries before I could make it. But once you manage it you will enjoy great satisfaction, hehehhehe I jump of the chair and yell YESSSSSS YESSSSS YESSSSS every time hahahhahahaha Keep the RESOURCES window open, keep an eye for the MONOPROPELANT and the BATTERIES. If monop. is over obvious you can't use the RCS anymore but I don't know if the light will turn on or off. If batteries is expended you can't use the reaction wheel anymore too. Also you may accidentally time accelerate (>) and I guess this may disengage some controls? Happened with me some times. Try to use the F4 key, if you mistakenly toggled it, it will turn off the brackets to identify. You can also just point your ship to the target using the attittude indicator, point the attitude indicator to the pink sphere with the dot in the middle, then position the camera from behind your ship and you should see the other ship in front of yours. I also suggest you using this mod, it helps a lot you you understand how it works.
  2. That is what I am talking about! this kind of notification showed up for the old airstrip but not for the arch. Is there a computer file that records all achievements to check?
  3. Once I found the abbandoned airstrip just east of KSC and I got some achievements/points/money by doing that. Now I found the Moon's Arch but I got nothing about it. I tried Crew Report, Eva Report, Samples but I got nothing special. How it was for you? Did you get something from it or just the satisfactiong of finding this anommaly?
  4. LOL I would like to know how you do that. Docking is still the most complicated thing for me. I am still strugling with it. Yes, but what is the problem of evolving the answer? This is a community, the OP purpose is to clarify but paralel discussions on the same subject may rise, it is healthy for both the OP poster and for those that are talking about it. Generally speaking. Specifically speaking the OP is about the tutorial, which implies the poster is still learning and I just tried to help him with more information to avoid a lot of headaches in the future and give hints to improve his playing.
  5. Yes I use that trick on the VAB too, playing with the fuel quantity helps visualize where the CoM will be when the RCS are needed. I also like to use 2 sets of RCS but in this case I place them as far as I can from the CoM as possible. This strategy seems to aleviate the unbalance a lot. This aleviate any unbalance that may exist when the time comes, but it need to follow another rule, that is to place the RCSs EQUIDISTANTS to the CoM, starting from the fartest if you can place it at 3m from CoM the other also need to be at 3m and soo on. This strategy seems to give much better control then just trying to find one placement for a single set of RCS. Another trick is to place the tank where the CoM will be or equidistant, this way as fuel get lower it will keep the CoM stabilized.
  6. I second on that, but I have to add that, poor ship design on how to place the RCS thrusters may dictate how hard or f#$%^@ing hard docking becomes latter on. The secret for an easier docking is to study very carefull the placement of RCSs in relation to the CoM. I am still learning about it and I can few inprovements. It may sound simple, but change in fuel quantity in the tanks will move the CoM back and forth and soo you need to think ahead how much fuel you will have when you will need to use the RCS. And to make things even more challenging, the CoM may be just aligned with a surface that you can't put the RCS.
  7. You got the DOCKED DRUNK achievements. Congratulations
  8. Ok even if I am wrong, what this is about? (I am pretty sure I saw this before I installed any mod, it is one of the 1st questions I wanted to make here but I was just procrastinating).
  9. Hy, examining the tech tree I noticed this strange exception on the progression lines, it is the only one with an ondulating, all the rest is simply straight. Anyone know why? I use mods but I noticed this way back on full stock.
  10. Already identifield as Google X ballon. Actually, I think it is the opposite. It never came to their mind to take picture of labels. At the other side, yes they are pretty much curious, they guy with the red shirt was just hostering a knife probably used to cut the parachute material or to poke the UFO :). Some time ago, there was a report on a UFO crash that hit the countryside here in my country. It was about a black ball with strange texture and ondulations, and people was touching it and moving it. It was a spherical rocket fuel tank and the residues was actually poisonous to touch and breath. Also check out the Cesium accident here in Brasil. By way, we speak portuguese here in Brasil.
  11. My 2 cents: If the DLC carry enhacements, major improvements, new content that prolong considerably the enjoyment of the game then I am ok with it. If the DLC carry minor improvements and a few more content based on what already exist to prolong just a bit the enjoyment of the game then I am NOT ok with it and depending on the price I would not pay for that. If the DLC carry ANY and I mean really ANY kind of updates, fixes or even improvements to anything that was awkward to play then I consider this WRONG AT ALL and I condem that practice.
  12. I would like to see this crashing into the ground. LOL
  13. I can't answer about all but... I think you maybe confused for what exactly spare chutes mean. It means once you landed you can repackage the chutes X number of times, for example, 1 means if you land with chutes, you can re-pack, take off and land again with chutes. If you have zero spares means you still have one to use but you can't re-pack. HOWEVER, depending on MOD settings, you will NEED an ENGINEER for the sole purpose of re-packing, so even if you have spare chutes, if you don't have an engineer in the team you won't be able to re-pack the chutes again. So, it DOES NOT MEAN you have reserve chutes to release multiple times during flight/descending. I hope this can be helpfull.
  14. You just don't understand, because it is not part of your reality, but that is ok.
  15. You have no idea how simple minded people are in certain parts of undeveloped countries. It is not about being dumb, they just lack experience in life / malice. The people in this place actually only worries about survival, they are more worried to make food and find water and eventually materials to build a poor house.
  16. It is a Google Ballon yes. Just found out. You have no idea how things are expensive in my country. tax import make it 100% more expensive. Think about a video card to play games like a $500 GTX1080? It is around U$1000 and that is not all. The money X work hours any worker gets here is WAAAAAYYYYY less then in USA or other developed countries, For example a programmer gets something like U$9000 a year (if he is lucky enought to get a good contractor that pays that) while in USA it is around U$80.000 almost 10x more. Now you understand why everyone whants to go live in US?
  17. I just got news of what appears to be a satelite that re-entried and landed (aparently with chutes) in Brasil. But there is no burn marks and I find the presence of parachute very strange. My country does not have money for scientific aerial experiment, If it is some kind of drone it must be from another country. What you think judging by the video? Thanks
  18. I saw this and would like to share, very interesting.
  19. This is not a "correct" or "professional" solution (it is actually even more difficult solution) because: 1-Adding a chute is not a fractional thing, you dont just pour chutes in one side like poweder and se if it balance, it does not work like that. It will probably not be enought or it willl be too much. 2-Each part you add, weight around 200kg EACH! You must add radially or you will end up with de-centered CoM which will cause problems during launch. Each time you add one radial chute you end up with one more. Soo lets say have 4 and it is unbalanced, then lets put in 5, but then it is not 5 but 6. But lets say 5 is ok, it will balance, but you need to add 6 because thats how things work, so now you end up unbalanced again! See? And I will not even talk about weight. For the record I am using RealChute Mod
  20. Thanks for all your input. No FMRS - despite the fact that it seems to be an interesting mod, atm I don't need it.I use Stage Recover Mod, but the thing is, I don't just leave it to Stage Recover, for my playstyle the stage NEEDS to land safelly before I just hand it to Stage Recover. Once I develop a stage that land safelly then I just launch and leave the recover for Stage Recover to handle the procedures. Ballutes - also interesting in concept, but sounds a bit exagerated and unrealistic and I prefer a more realistic playstyle. Your parachute suggestion - it seems you didn't read all the post, but I don't condeem you. You can't just place a set of chutes on each tip of the stage, because the stage will probably land inclined and this is a real problem if your stage is long, because once the lowest part touches the land or the water the chutes cutoff (even realchutes) and the other side hanging in the air drops abruptly and gets destroyed, even on water. Soo this doesn't work, I tried much before coming here. The solution is to measure the EXACT EQUIDISTANT distance from the CoM and place radial chutes, this is A PAIN IN THE ASS and I just came here looking for a diferent solution because I don't want to do that everytime I design a new rocket. But now I am using a hack mod that allow me to jump right over the situation saving a lot of time for the tests, before this I had to setup the chutes, launch, drop, wait, wait, wait, open chutes and wait more just to see how it would land, even an inclination as small as 6 degrees would result in catastrophic drops and back to drawing board. Plus I was satisfield with side lands before, but now I am not, when I realised that 4m/s is a LOT even not destroying the stage, in RL it would cause major damage to anything. Now I use airbags and floater associated with smaller stages. Exactly, that is my point since the begining of the post. As I just replied, the solution is to use equidistants chutes away from the CoM, but this is a pain in the ass and need several trials, now it is easier because I use a hack mod that allow me to jump right to the test fase. But this jouney to find a solution brought me to question how reasonable it is to drop a 10 tons stage on its side at 4m/s? Not realistic at all, and I try to play as realistic as possible, it is a playstyle thing. Soo now I make the stage separate into smaller sizes and land them with floater or airbags.
  21. Thanks for all the help, both solutions worked for me!
  22. UPDATE: after several experiments, I found out that the most elegant solution to long stages that re-entry and are planned for recover is to actually split it in smaller pieces which you can control CoM much better and how they will land, it is also less prone for error and easier to setup. There are 2 variants: you can split before re-entry or after re-entry, they have pros and contras that you need to weight of and depend on each ship design.
  23. Lets say I am building a rocket for one purpose and then I want to load inside this project another ship I builted previously, lets say a lunar lander for example. Is there a way to do this? stock or mod? Thanks
  24. LOL I agree in both statements. And thing is one need to simplify a lot something that is true to pass over to laymen, even if it is not really true, but the important thing is to catch people curiosity and make them question about, soo you come in and explain it better.
