  1. Well, I am a lil confused.. How do I mesh the grid? How do I let the system know that a domain has been divided into several discrete finite volumes?
  2. Yes, Yes I am in a grad course... and while the melting problem that I have been told to solve involves a pure metal (Gallium)(ENTHALPY-POROSITY TECHNIQUE FOR MODELING CONVECTION-DIFFUSION PHASE CHANGE: APPLICATION TO THE MELTING OF A PURE METAL), a universal method applicable for both alloys and pure metals would be great. This is what I want my program to exhibit: The calculation domain is 2D,rectangular. The material is crystalline, and is assumed to be anisotropic,so different thermophysical values in each direction. It does not have any impurities or solutes, so that's one problem out of the way. Although I would really like to go one step further and include impurities, let's go one step at a time. And yeah, convection in the calculation domain (beyond a certain value of liquid fraction) will also be required. While the problem linked in the paper above is relatively simple, I want to go a lil further than that.. About modelling solidification process, I came across the Enthalpy Porosity Method and the Effective Heat Capacity method. Which one do you think will be more suitable?? Thanks, you are too kind! But I first need to sort out the numerical foundation of this problem before I venture into C...
  3. So, it's summer vacations and I have an assignment. It's to write a C program to calculate the solidification/melting front of a calculation domain using the Finite Volume Method. I have no idea where to begin, to be honest.. Can someone please tell me what I should do, how I should proceed?
  4. The ENTIRE 'Weird Al Yankovic' playlist (Seriously, look it up, you wont regret it) But this one's stuck in my mind~
  5. My win 10 is shutting down and rebooting randomly, with messages like "Video scheduler Internal Error"... It happened in a presentation today! It was sooo embarassing!
  6. Hi! Since I won't be able to play KSP for quite sometime, I thought of a good way to make best use of my free time: make Kerbal song parodies! Here's the first one~ 10 points to whoever guesses which song it's a parody of. You guys are free to post your song parodies too
  7. So I found this... This right here is the engine bell of the first stage SRM of SLV-3, India's first launch vehicle..(also used for several early missilies) So, is it just me or is that Sellotape/duct tape sealing the cracks in the bell??? Did they buy it from Jeb's Junkyard?? Did this SRM actually fly? I have sooo many questions!!!
  8. Thanks... But it's so difficult to watch the worst side of humanity.. shopkeepers are selling essential goods at 4-5X the maximum retail price, one of my 'friendly' neighbours is charging a ton of cash to let others use his petrol electric generator to fill up the inverter batteries. I had to use physical violence for the first time in my life yesterday when a group of guy tried to steal fruits and veggies I bought.. I could only scratch and bite and slap them, but my brother beat the mulch outta them.. he was injured too.. My brother doesn't mind his broken nose, he loves violence and conflicts. But I am always scared for him.. My Dad told us to wear rings on our fingers when we got home. Well they are glorified brass knuckles, the ones he used 25 years ago when he was a delinquent . I dunno, I don't want to hurt anyone, but my brother won't always be around to save me..
  9. I don't know where you grew up, but it seems like a nice, homely place. But please don't impose your visions of an ideal society on our society. Because trust me, when you have 1.2 billion people competing for a limited amount of resources, everyone else is the enemy, and it's 24/7 hunger games. If public were allowed to hang around, to watch the counting process here, it would be a freaking bloodbath, a security nightmare.. You use lifts, right? Isn't it risky, compared to stairs? What if someone with a grudge decided to tamper with the lift, leaving you stranded, or worse, snap the cable and foil the emergency brakes? Please learn to trust machines a bit. Or else we might just go back to the medieval times. Your toaster can give you a shock, for all that we know.. It's a CPU, you could make it operate a roomba if you extracted it from a device. I am pretty sure if hackers manage to get their hands on one of the cpus used in our EVMs they can get it to play chess as well, but that experiment does not prove that the VOTES were tampered. In fact, the Election Commission of India allowed individuals and Organisations to try to prove that EVMs can be hacked. No one was able to prove it. Perhaps that just means that our EVMs are better than yours?? Good for you if you don't. But we have to count 800 million votes and deliver the results in a sensible period of time, counting ballots by hand is just impractical.
  10. Company? No, every bit of the EVM machine is built by the ECI. Not the 'administration' but the ECI. Like I wrote in my previous comment, representatives from each political parties are required to test if the votes are being registered correctly. If there are no discrepancies during that testing phase, there won't be any during the actual voting. And remember, those political parties have a MUCH larger stake in this than random strangers typing on an online forum, and they are ok with this. Who made it a Central(Federal) authority? The Constitution did. It is backed by the judiciary, and should need arise, it can help the Election commission directly or regulate it, if it's going astray.(which has never happened yet, The ECI has maintained its sanctity for the last 70 years) No administration has the ability to interfere in ECI's internal affairs. And about intimidating people and the human factors in general, is it not possible for the same to occur in a ballot box system? You know what? Jon Stewart, a famous American political satirist did a video on Indian Electoral process. Maybe he can convince you, if not me. And perhaps, you can't get a feel of our situation from your perspective. There's no stopping me from destroying the contents of the ballot box and filling it with another fake sets of votes. How would you take precautions against that? The Election commission. No. The Election Commission. I would like to reiterate: An EVM is the exact same as a ballot box. If you wish to raise issues against EVMs like corruption and dishonesty, then please consider that it's possible in ballot system as well.
  11. Well, for starters, the entire process is being overseen by a Central (Federal) authority unaffiliated to any political party, and has a lot of autonomy. The Election Commission of India is ruthlessly impartial(as it should be). The Database modification that you are mentioning would need a change in the vote registration software. And to change the results of the election, a large number of these machines will have to be tampered. Moreover, at every polling booth, the Election Commission allows one agent from each party to test it and make sure that the vote is registered accordingly. And immediately after that, the EVM is disconnected from any form of outside electronic contact. It runs on batteries, even. The system is isolated, and remains so throughout the voting process. Well, there are 1 million polling booths in 2019, with 1 million EVMs..... so to tamper them to change the result considerably, you would need an army too. There's this misconception going around that EVMs are connected via internet and it can be hacked movie-style by a computer geek with hitech gadgets. It can't, for the simple reason that it is NOT CONNECTED to any form of electronic network during the polling process. After polling is done in that booth, EVMs are physically sealed with lac, much like the ballot boxes used to be. http://secharyana.gov.in/web/assets/Cform/STEP-BY-STEP new 2018.pdf This document details the entire process of the EVM getting sealed post polling process.
  12. I AM BAACCCCKKKK!!!! I got a stable internet connection only now. Communications and power were struck down as the winds visciously destroyed everything in its path. We are limping back to normalcy, however... So, on the day of the cyclone, 3rd of May, it started pouring heavily. Our roof had their drainage holes blocked because of leafs, twigs and other debris blocking them. We didn't realize it, until the water started flooding the ground floor.. We realized what was happening, but we also realized that it would be impossible to remove the debris in the middle of the storm. (It was slowing down by then, but was hitting 80 kmph regularly) Nevertheless, me and my brother wore our raincoats, helmets and we got to work, clearing the blockage, allowing the water to drain from the roof. But halfway, I got careless and a FREAKING PLASTIC CHAIR hit me in the HEAD, outta nowhere! Thank GOD for the HELMET!!!! It stunned me though, and I twisted my ankle and fell on my left arm, spraining it too. But we finished the mission. The real horror struck after the storm. Houses were wrecked, and in some cases the doors were ripped off the hinges! Morale was at an all time low, and the law and order situation had degraded in an alarming manner, thefts and burglary being like really common . The police was stretched thin, since there were minor riots for supplies and stuff. We slept in shifts and made sure that either me or my brother kept watch. Law and order was soon restored, and we breathed easy. Communications was down, so no chit chatting with my bf. Instead we went on 'OMIGOD-WE-ARE-ALIVE' Dates where we marveled at the immense destruction brought about by nature, and in the evening we tried to figure out the constellations in the sky. The lack of city lights helped too! That was a learning experience, in its own way. Perhaps we should never take technology for granted and we should make sure we know essential survival skills, in case of a natural disaster..
  13. Mmhmm... we had elections in our country and in my state this year, about a few weeks ago...we used electronic voting machines in all the elections. Maybe I can provide a perspective? In these elections we had to go to the designated poll booth, press a button in complete privacy and then print a VVPAT slip (Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail: which is a method to verify that our vote was registered correctly) Before Electronic Voting Machines were used extensively, vote rigging was very common. The video claims that Physical voting is immune to frauds, as every method has been tried against it. Well, picture this scenario: You are voting in a poll booth, and suddenly goons come out of nowhere and threaten you to vote for a particular party. Or worse, they snatch your ballot papers and mark their preferred candidates and stuff the ballot box with the bogus votes. This practice was commonplace in my country when EVMs were not a thing. In those areas, ideally, re-voting would take place... But then again, would you stand up to a guy who has tons of goons and influence at his disposal and got them to beat up the police stationed at the voting booth. If you try to button smash EVMs though, it will stop registering any input. The only way to tamper the votes is if you dismantle the CPU inside it, which is easily detected. Furthermore, all of these machines are isolated, meaning that they are not connected to a network for a hacker to 'hack' it. Recently, claims have been made by several individuals and organizations within the country that EVMs can be tampered remotely with a 'bluetooth chip'.. The Election Commission of India allowed them access to EVMs used in 2014 General Elections, in hope that any security concerns that may arise could be solved, but no one came forward to demonstrate any tampering. I am not saying that it proves that the machines are tamper proof, but that there are still no tangible threats against the integrity of this system, yet. I don't really agree with the 'voting from your phone' thingie. Not one bit. I guess the problem is with the humans, the corruption lies within us. No matter what method we cook up, people will find a way to damage/ corrupt it. even if it's the 'Ultra Mega Block Chain Crypto Proto Deus ex Telepathy Voting System' from the 3000s
  14. Right now, I am stuck in a category 4 cyclone.. Windspeed is about 200 km/h. I just saw a (dead?) puppy rolling around like tumbleweed because of the sheer force of the wind... It's almost as bad as the most dangerous cyclone 20 years ago... I was not born then, but I have heard it ripped apart entire towns in its wake.
  15. My Iota Gateway Station in my 10x Rescaled Galileo's Planet Pack playthrough with lifesupport~ The visiting crew will arrange the docking hubs on the radial attachment points and the station will be functional as a fuel depot and stop-over point for kerbonauts before they land on different biomes of Iota. The cargo vehicle for resupplying the station with fuel for landers, snacks and those KIS boxes contain bits and pieces that kerbonauts forgot to bring with them (KIS/KAS screwdrivers, science experiments, stuff..) Once the station reaches full operational capacity, it will be able to manufacture its own fuel and snacks, thus reducing dependency on Kerbin. The completed station will be able to service, refuel and restock interplanetary spaceships and cargo tugs. But that's a long way off! And rocket launches for these missions are absolutely ginormous, and time consuming! Its like Real Solar System, only less real....
  16. Can someone please please help me figure out the thermophysical properties of liquid nitrogen? I looked up google scholar but I can't find anything... Edit: Oh nevermind, found it~ https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/275728.pdf The problem: It's in imperial!!!
  17. How do I calculate forced convective heat transfer coefficient of liquid nitrogen at different velocities??
  18. So, i was pondering in this for a while: Elon Musk wanted his starship/superheavy to be of a 9m diameter because the commercially available oven which baked the carbon fiber would be the limiting factor. If he is building the Starship/Superheavy with stainless steel, then why is he still sticking to a 9 m diameter? Why not the initial 12m, or maybe 15m diameter?
  19. What do you think about the science rewards and fund rewards? Are they OK?
  20. I am thinking of starting a 10x GPP career playthrough. However, I think that if I use the default 'Career Options' then I might just get thoroughly bankrupt, the rockets would get so expensive.. that or the gameplay would become very tedious, trying to complete each and every 'survey' contract to earn extra money(ugh!). I figured out that even the easiest interplanetary mission would bankrupt me. The heavy lifters involved would cost about a million funds each.. I was thinking of these settings, to conform to the 'Normal' settings in a stock game: So,is this OK? If not, what do you think should be the apt values of the sliders?
  21. So, Simple Rockets 2 dropped the following bomb. Considering it's perhaps one of the only competition in this genre, we must reply in kind.. So, is anyone up for building a procedural rocket engine mod? And for that matter, is it possible to make such a mod for KSP?
  22. Well, I was thinking Infinity Gauntlet Seriously speaking, I will make anything that you want me to. Consider me an apprentice
  23. I.... stumbled upon this.. I have no idea what's being spoken, or what the lyrics mean. But wow it's amazing..
