I think the MFD on the X-52 and X-52 Pro are probably a little unique. But the idea is really neat. In M$ flight sim, you can display and change com radio channels. but for KSP i am envisioning something a little more simple. maybe something like displaying the Delta/v or something that is not always visible by default or only displayed if you are on the the map screen like AP/PE or AN/DN. for the X-52, you have three lines to display information. from what little i understood of the SDK documanetion included with the directoutput software, it could be any information not just limited to what the default plugin displays. I would also like to see the Saitek Instrument Panels (which also use the same DirectOutput software) working too. you can replace the default image the displays on the the device use. potentially (and i think i mentioned this before) you could replace the navball bieng displayed on the screen and use a navball that is displayed on the instrument panel instead. I understood very little in the documentation in the SDK. but i did understand that it need M$ VC studio and knowledge of the C++ language. I am hoping someone that is a lot smarter than i am, and is knowledgeable in C++ will pick up this project.

some how the need for a graphing calculator doesn't really surprise me, based on the age of the program. seems like some of the best games that existed back in the day had an extremely high difficulty and learning curve compared to most of today's games. some titles i have noticed that with: Legend of Zelda Metroid Bill Budges Pinball Construction set Microsoft Flight Simulator v1.0 - v6.0 (especially 1.0) that's all i could think of atm, but i'm sure there are more. don't know if people were just that smart back them, or if i was just that dumb.

Saitek Joystick's such as the X-52 Pro and the Pro Flight instrument panels contain the ability to display information related to the flight sim. but they are not limited to only displaying flight sim gauges and intruments. while i don't have any of the Pro Flight instrument panels, I think they would work well with KSP. I also think the Pro Flight Switch panel would work well with or with out any other controllers. the instrument Panels display and the X-52 relyon an intermediary program called Directoutput to display information related to the game. in the case of the X-52 you have three lines of text to display information on the joystick. in the case of the instrument panels, you have the entire instrument to display on the units. this means a background image of some sort. As far as I know, the only reason this has not been attempted yet, is because no one has tried to do it yet. There is a SDK in the directoutput packages that you can use to create a directoutput version that would work for KSP. I would do it myself, but i don't know how to program. using the MFD on the X-52 Pro to display some simple information would be incredible. using the instrument panels to display KSP info would be outrageous. potentially, you could use the instrument panels as a replacement for the navball in KSP. If you the X-52, X-52 Pro, or any of the Pro Flight Instrument panels, and can code M$ VS C++ please consider taking on this project. I know I am not the only in KSP who has or wants to use their X-52 with KSP to the devices fullest potential. I do hope to eventually get the Pro Flight panels and switches, and would love it if i could use them with KSP. joystick button limitation
Chris Solomon replied to Chris Solomon's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
I am new to KSP so while I get used to how KSP works, I want to stay away from any mods, no matter how useful they might be. -
I am attempting to use my saitek X-52 Pro in KSP. After much trials, i got the AXIS and buttons assigned, but this is where i ran into problems. I could only assign 19 of the 39 buttons present on the X-52 Pro. Also the mouse stick does not function as a mouse in KSP. back to the button issue. HAT 02's up direction is button 19 and is the last button assignable. but the other directions and all the directions on hat 03 is tottally unsassignable. the wheel buttons below the joysticks MFD are also unassignable, becuase they fall within the button numbers past 19.

i am new to ksp so i am trying to go without mods until i am througly familair with how KSP operates. I did figure out how to get the axis detected (end tasked the saitek/logitech profiler software), but found KSP only supports 19 of the 39 buttons the x-52 Pro has. this results in only the up direction of HAT 02 being able to be assign, and HAT 03 being totally unassignable. Also unassignable is the wheel buttons below the MFD (on the throttle). I noticed an SDK included with the DirectOutput driver (for FSX and X-Plane and Prepare3D) I was wondering if anyone had tried to use that SDK to create a plugin so that the MFD on the X-52 Pro and other supported products, such as the little display thing-a-mabobs that they made for flight sim purposes could be used with KSP. Having the MFD display something useful such as delta/v or AP/PA or AN/DN would be super cool. but to create the proper files using the SDK you need to be profecient in M$ visual C++, and also be able to assemble the file into an .EXE which would run beside KSP and send the data from KSP to the joystick MFD. the SDK contains some pretty specific instruction on how to display stuff on the MFD, it might as well be greek to me. but it is something to consider as a project for someone. also the HOTAS profile which was supposedly added in the patch does not exist. not in steam controller support, nor steam controller profiles. or anywhere in ksp. the only profiles in steam controller profiles from squad were for the XBone and the steam controller.

i cant even get KSP to find my joystick axis's for my saitek X-52 Pro. I am new to KSP so I am trying to get oriented with KSP before i even start messing around with mods. I can assign buttons, but not any of axis. also the H.O.T.A.S profile that was added in the latest update is either non-existant or is hidden in such a way that a normal user can't find it. Steam controller support only supports gamepads and does not support traditional joysticks or H.O.T.A.S. Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 KSP 1.4.4 (No mods)

Kerbal Space Program 1.4.4 and Making History 1.3 launching today!
Chris Solomon replied to UomoCapra's topic in 2018
i cant find the supposedly added H.O.T.A.S. profile they added in the update. with in KSP, the game will recognize the buttons and bind them, but it will not detect any of the axis's of the joystick. with in steam, using big picture mode, steam treats my x-52 Pro as a gamepad. and only treats one of the three hats as a hat, and treats the other two as buttons (2x 8-way hats=16 unassignable buttons) also unassignable is the throttle, and the rotation controls and the slider also a number of buttons are unassignable. the joystick normally has a total of 39 buttons. i went so far as to even ignore that steam treats the controller as a gamepad, and assigned buttons and so on as best as i could. i then went to check the game's controller config in steam, where you can change button configs, but there was no configs for a hotas flight stick. the only config available from squad were for xbox one and steam controllers. there are no flightstick configs available anywhere in steam that could be accessed or applied to use with ksp. steam controller support only supports gamepads at this time. ' Did the devs lie to us ??? this is for the windows [steam] version of KSP (with NO mods installed) -
Saitek X52 Pro input lag
Chris Solomon replied to Hyperion101's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
supposedly the lag issue is was fix or at least reduced in latest version. only problem is, i can not currently figure out how to assign the stick axis from with in KSP. nor can i find this supposed HOTAS generic profile that was supposedly added. -
the update notes for KSP 1.4.4 said there was fixes for joystick users, and added HOTAS (flight sticks) I can't seem the find out how to activate the HOTAS profile. Steam controller interface wants to treat my X-52 Pro as a Xbox360 like gamepad. and trying to modify the controllers settings from the big picture game page causes a no controller detected message. I can assign buttons from with in KSP, but i am unable to assign any of the axis's, rotation axis's, or sliders, that exist on the joystick. Is there something i am missing? I have tried looking through the menus, but have yet to see anything in KSP that would allow setup of a HOTAS. I even tried using the profiler software that came with the joystick, but that seemed to introduce some minor input lag. where can i find the newly added hotas profile and how do i activate it?

Saitek X52 Pro input lag
Chris Solomon replied to Hyperion101's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
i have updated KSP to 1.4.4 and and trying to figure out how to access the HOTAS profile that was mentioned in the update notes. any one know how to access it? i tried using the input menu to assign stuff, but could not assign the the axis's, rotation axis's or sliders. and the Steam controller interface wanted to treat my x-52 pro as a xbox 360 like gamepad. so i am really stumped. -
Saitek X52 Pro input lag
Chris Solomon replied to Hyperion101's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
btw i went ahead and installed the newer Logitech drivers but kept the older SST software installed. not only does it still work, but the newer Logitech version appears to be the older version that's been gutted and repackaged in a wrapper window. the older SST software i had installed doesn't seem to care on bit about the newer driver. if i had to do things over again, and i just might. I would extract the files from the setup package from Logitech and only run the setup file in the driver directory in the extracted files. then I would run the setup for the older SST software. the two packages used to be separate, and technically they still are, which is why Logitech had to package them together with a excitable zip file. while I'm grateful to Logitech for a newer, working driver for the stick, i am a little disappointed the slacked off on the programming software. -
Saitek X52 Pro input lag
Chris Solomon replied to Hyperion101's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
i don't suppose anyone could post the joystick profile they use with their X-52 Pro and KSP? depending on whether the issue gets solved, I mayor may not program my own profile, but having a premade one for now, would let me more closely emulate what you are experiencing. -
Saitek X52 Pro input lag
Chris Solomon replied to Hyperion101's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
i have just finished updating my x52 drivers, and am just getting started trying ksp with my x-52 pro, but already i have noticed an input lag right off the bat with the mouse stick on the throttle. if i minimize ksp and return to the desktop, the lag goes away. there is no lag when i use an actual mouse, instead of the mouse stick on the joystick. like the OP said, it is a minor lag, about half a second in length. so there is a hang up somewhere in the code....possibly -
Saitek X52 Pro input lag
Chris Solomon replied to Hyperion101's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
I have been using the Smart Technology Programming Software 7.0.39 with the last Saitek signed drivers. maybe madcatz fixed the driver signing issue, since i last messed with the issue. what Logitech drivers are you using that are compatible with the x52-pro? or are you saying that Logitech took over the saitek stuff? I miss my old Logitech Strike Force 3D joystick... it's in about a million parts scattered around my room. there was an issue with the usb cord, and i thought i could fix it, but taking the apart meant also disassembling every part of it, instead of just opening the base and fixing the wiring..... It was a good joystick that lasted over five years, so I'm not complaining too much. I like the Saitek, because when i got it (when Saitek still owned there own stuff) they would do service and repair on their joysticks. don't know if that is still possible, but it was a nice thing to have. I will dig out my x-52 Pro tomorrow and see if i can get it up and running to see if i see any lag like you are. -
since the latest update, the landing gear on my jet's are bouncing my craft up and down. it's so bad i can't even take off. if you try to, the bouncing gets so bad, that the landing gear fails and the craft crashes. using SAS only seems to make the issue worse as the SAS is unable to compensate for the bouncing.

Saitek X52 Pro input lag
Chris Solomon replied to Hyperion101's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
you use your x-52 pro with ksp? I had never even considered using mine for this game. I will have to go get mine and try it out to see what it is like. I already have the drivers and software installed, so it should be as easy as plugging it in. Don't know if the situation has changed since i last dealt with the issue, but last time i had out my x-52 pro, i ended up having to dig around for previous versions of the driver software, because the "new" madkatz signed drivers were Improperly signed and were getting blocked by windows. i had to sort my way through various versions till i came across the last win 7 version that was still signed properly (by Saitek). in the end, i got everything working properly, but only by using a previous version driver. is that still an issue with the x-52 pro?
