  1. So after a lot of false starts, I finally completed my mission for Leaderboard 2. 52,865 funds. https://imgur.com/gallery/mTydn4m
  2. Thanks. The Mars Direct mission was done first so I could try out a few ideas. I now have all the hardware ready for doing the Konstellation Space Program. Question for @Death Engineering. For the ATLAST telescope I propose using a SENTINEL. Is that OK, or should I develop something with a more realistic mass?
  3. Here is my Mars Direct submission. Mods Used: TAC-LS and Tweakscale, otherwise all stock parts. Scoring
  4. Announcing my Konstellation Space Program hardware: https://imgur.com/gallery/ZdYhIoa
  5. I have just loaded v1.7, so I am guessing RO/RSS is not supported, and I would need to revert to 1.6.1. Looks like this option would be a massive undertaking, and would need to rebuild everything from scratch. I wonder how long until 1.7 is supported? Still looking to go ahead with my stock only, Mars Direct mission. I have added TAC-LS mod, which seems to work with 1.7, although oddly Jebediah Kerman is now a scientist. Will also set difficulty settings and gather the science points, and not yet do RO/RSS and upscale. I have also added an artificial gravity Duna Transfer Habitat module, just for fun.
  6. Wow @Kergarin. Not exactly low cost. But very cool.
  7. @Death EngineeringI have designed this mission for 2 launches. I have a big Ares V craft which can carry 180t of payload to 120km LKO (the real Ares V was capable of 188t payload), So one launch is required for all of the cargo and equipment for Mars Direct (85t). The second launch is for the crew aboard the Orion on the Ares 1, which has a payload capability of 20t. Edit: On second thought, I will do 4 launches 3 x Ares V and 1 x Ares 1, in keeping with the spirit of the challenge. Launching a 85t payload is somewhat ungainly and unrealistic.
  8. Hi @Death Engineering , I am developing a Mars Direct entry, and just making sure I understand the rules for maximum points. Mission profile: Launch interplanetary craft (Duna Habitat lander/DAV+Rovers Lander/NERVA tug on Ares V (multiple launches?) Orion+crew on Ares 1, docking with above in low Kerbin orbit, transfer 6 x crew Orion remains in orbit while Duna interplanetary craft proceeds to Duna low orbit Robot controlled Duna Lander vehicle lands on Duna, including Duna Ascent Vehicle (DAV) with 6 pressurised seats 2 x robot controlled rovers, each with seats for 3 Kerbals, two seats are pressurised. Rovers can be docked to make one rover with 6 seats, 4 pressurised. Duna Habitat Lander with 8 pressurised seats lands near the above lander Crew explore Duna in rovers collecting science until next Hohmann transfer window Crew transferred by rovers to DAV DAV ascends to Duna orbit, rendezvous with NERVA tug Return to Kerbin, rendezvous with Orion Re-enter Kerbin in Orion, 6 crew safely landed.
  9. The Multipede Level 5 : +1500 points Rocket Weighs 500-1000 Tons: +175 Points Rocket Costs 0 - 250k funds: +250 points Mission completed in 500+ Days: +25 points ISRU Used: +225 points Total = 2,175
  10. With some tweaking, I have an entry for Leaderboard 1 at <$33k. The key was optimising the craft for the passage from Pol to Laythe to Pol. More fuel for the Laythe lander jet, and dropping from Laythe high orbit, meant a smaller interplanetary craft could be used, saving funds. The passage from Minmus to Pol was very tight, my craft landed at 10m/s with nothing in the tank.
  11. @farmerben I don't know if this is the right way to do it, but this is what I did. Use snipping tool to capture a .png image, and save to png file. Upload to Imgur Click on Imgur image, and CTRL-C to copy URL Edit signature, click Insert media, CTRL-V the URL.
  12. @Aeroboi is that a level 4 or level 5 entry? I am doing L5 now, and I have taken @Johnster_Space_Program's requirements literally: So I have a piloted lander craft that can drop from orbit into the ocean, the Kerbal occupant collects a sea sample. The craft then flies to solid surface, lands again and collects another sample. A second craft is deployed from orbit to the surface to rendezvous and lift the Kerbal and science to Eve orbit. This craft docks with orbiter, and the science is then transported by the Kerbal back to Kerbin.
  13. Here' s one I have prepared already... Level 5 Complete: +1500 points Rocket Weighs Rocket Weighs 2500+ Tons: +50 points Rocket Costs 2 million+ funds: +75 points Mission completed in 500+ Days: +25 points ISRU Used: +225 points
  14. @dnbattley Well for one, I don't object, because you have truly earned that honour.
  15. @vyznev that would be awesome, thanks. Yes I think goo canister underwater with Jool in the background would be perfect.
  16. Hey I am wondering, can someone provide some guidance or assistance in making a badge for this challenge. @dnbattley and @farmerben deserve theirs. I am a graphics gumby - no idea where to start.
  17. OK so it doesn't quite work out as cheap as @dnbattley's entry. But an ISRU equipped, staged spaceplane with twin Cheetah engines, and a dolphin diving Laythe landing jet- it's super cool, right?
  18. OK, so someone had to do it. 126 command seats <100,000 Kredits Landed at Mun and Minmus https://imgur.com/a/pqkyXJn . Craft file available on request
  19. For the High Capacity Mun Lander, do you specifically exclude command seats?  Not that I am planning anything, but I think you will find that unless you state something, someone will give it a go.

    1. Mars-Bound Hokie

      Mars-Bound Hokie

As long as everyone returns to Kerbin alive, I'm okay with command seats.

  20. @dnbattley I think I can squeeze a bit more out of my NERVA upper stage design. However the launcher will need to change from Twin Bore to Kodiak engines to stay under K100,000 at launch. This would appear to be plagiarism, since I note that you use Kodiaks in your design. With your permission (to use Kodiaks) I will have one more attempt at fine tuning my design. Edit: On second thought, your launcher is just too good to fine-tune further. So I will just tip my hat to you and say" "Well played".
  21. Here is my entry https://imgur.com/a/BScAPQH 34 seat capacity <100k Landed both moons
  22. Apparently not. System glitch? I was sceptical myself, until I tried it. Like you, when I discovered it, I had to scrub my mission and start again from scratch.
  23. @farmerben In a nutshell, yes. I have small converter, 1 x small drill, 1 x small radiator, single SP-L 1x6 solar panel, 3 x fuel cells. The trick is to turn the radiator off and on so the thermal efficiency goes down, and the rig consumes less power and converts slower. When its balanced hit warp. I sent an engineer, and my rig worked fine.
