My cats hiss back at me though..

Me and my roomie were talking about life and stuff, and she concluded that 'Kids are just pets with a few extra steps.'...

The video coverage is handled by a State-run media house "Doordarshan", not ISRO so yeah, the broadcasters dont know jack all about what to broadcast and what not to. ISRO doesnt get a lot of control over that. Fun story: When the Chinese Premier Xi Jinping visited India, a "Doordarshan" commentator called him 'Eleven Xinping.' Because, well, 'Xi' is eleven in roman numerals Also, do you know what "Doordarshan" means, literaly? It means 'Television', thats it.... Its like no one in India knows how to name things beyond the obvious...

Scott Manley did a video on the Vikram crashlanding site, but the comments section is a racist, xenophobic dumpster fire so I am not linking it directly to the forum.

I am scared of revealing my country of origin to anyone online, even on this forum. It seems people don't have a good image of my country in their minds. They keep talking about "You guys should not have rockets, you should have toilets." "Ugh how do you survive the stench " "How many kids would have been fed from space program's money? " and TONS of racist stuff that I can't write here. And reasoning with them is pointless, they just keep sticking the nail in the wound and keep digging around.... I joined the discord page for a game, and I was introducing myself. When I told them about my country, I WAS BOMBED by slurs and xenophobic comments. Thankfully the Moderator was mature enough to take action. None of what they say can shake my belief and faith in my country, I have a thicker skin than that. But it disturbs me to think that almost all of the next generation of the rest of the world has these false perceptions of my country in their mind, and would probably not like being my (future)kid's friends, or outright hate him/her.

totm march 2020 So what song is stuck in your head today?
Selective Genius replied to SmileyTRex's topic in The Lounge
~~FUNKY~~ I don't get the meaning of the song at all, but the simultaneous energizing and pacifying nature of the song is just so.... good.... And @Yeet_TheDinosaur, if you liked "We are number one.", You are going to love this: -
"Life sucks, and then you die. But you can try your best to make it suck less for your children."

totm march 2020 So what song is stuck in your head today?
Selective Genius replied to SmileyTRex's topic in The Lounge
My ringtone as of now. It's either going to fascinate everyone hearing it, or get on their nerves. Either way, it would be fun for me! -
I decided to make an interstellar spaceship. This particular model is rated to transfer 150 tons to Valentine and back. The Nuke powered interplanetary vehicle at the front is a mere placeholder for now. I am planning a Xenon powered ship for interplanetary excursions. The lander which is fit in the payload bay needs to be redesigned and fit with a Karbonite ISRU system. Target would be to make a lander capable of SSTOing from the surface of Tylo once fully refuelled This ship will visit the Valentine Star system and I will try to land a Kerbal on as many bodies as I can. The Interstellar Transfer Vehicle is powered by Karborundum and Water. Since Karborundum is not not available on any planetary body in Valentine System, I will have to lug it from Kerbin, but the system has a lot of water so I dont have to drag all my fuel with me. This is the Karborundum Drive. The front part that is. A Water refuelling tanker is docked at the back. I plan to include 2 SSTOs, ISRU LFO system, an Interplanetary Excursion Vehicle, and possibly a Xenon Scoopship.. This is the SSTO that would be used in the Interstellar mission. It's surprisingly stable at all velocity regimes and different fuel loads, given I dont really make SSTOs.. The Krew will be performing a ingress/egress test and a test flight to the Orbital Laboratory to validate the SSTO's capabilities.

"I feel the spring breeze, but I know its one of my dreams; my life is torn apart at the seams." "They tell me not to give up, but do I even have a choice? I work at a research laboratory and they offer PhD courses, even though seats are VERY less. There were only about 12 people attending this PhD presentation for 3 candidates, and 2 external evaluators, one of whom joined us via skype. Thus, I was spotted being a goofy idiot. And since my organization is government funded there are no NDAs. But I wharfed down enough snacks to compensate for my missing lunch and bagged 8 BigS cookies, eventually. So it was worth the embarrassment

So my project leader had her PhD presentation today, and I was invited as a cheerleader. My only job was to look interested and bob my head up and down as if she was Elon Musk reincarnated talking about exploring the outer solar system. It was all going fine until the presentation ended and the external evaluator (who joined us via Skype) asked ME (outta nowhere!) about my project leader's presentation (" You looked very interested in this topic, have you done some research work in molecular dynamics as well?) I managed to stutter my way out. I cheerled a bit too hard it seems. (Is 'cheerled' even a proper word?) I got extra snacks and juice after the presentation, so it was time and energy well spent

A stray we adopted had a baby. She was in hiding and only now allows me to get near her child. Edit: Sorry @CatastrophicFailure, I put the right link. Also, a few more pics~ The Mommy. Sorry for the blurry pic, I had to take it from a distance, as I did not want to disturb the mother when it was nursing. The box was a bit small for them, the Mommy demanded a new bigger box, and I obliged. The Daddy (most likely). The poor fella had been trying for ages to court the Mommy, looks like he succeeded. You can tell from his cocky sneer as he sits on my second hand scooter seat as if he owns it. And this tom cat is HUGE and STRONK! He once badly injured a dog who had cornered him before I could intervene. There are 2 more stray cats who frequent my place, I have no clue why and how do I keep attracting cats. If only I attracted Success and Good Luck at that rate...

totm march 2020 So what song is stuck in your head today?
Selective Genius replied to SmileyTRex's topic in The Lounge
This song got into my youtube recommended just when I needed it the most. Before this song, my motivation was at an all-time low, to the point that if my life ended tomorrow, I could care less. My motivation is still at an all time low, but better than before. -
The title is pretty self explanatory. I want to find the general equation to calculate the payload capacity of a particular rocket (with a certain delta-v) to an orbit of x X y km with a Beta inclination around a planet of radius r and mass M. I hope to find a solution for an airless body before moving on to bodies with atmosphere. Thanks in advance!

Bill Kerban - Killed in action
Selective Genius replied to Retro Starship's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Oof! They spelt his name wrong on the memorial flag? On the Mun? Looks like Jeb planned this in advance, and is now rubbing salt on Bill's family's wounds.... RIP William Kerman. -
I recall installing a mod that provided contracts like 'Complete the Mun 3 course (flyby Mun, Moho and Duna); Complete the Moho 3 course.....' But I cant recall which mod provided those contracts. Does anyone have an idea about what I am talking about?

Well, KSP at its core is a puzzle based game (if you play career mode). You are given an objective to complete, and you have a set of parts to use to complete that objective. It's up to you how you use your pieces. If something like tweakscale is made stock, then it sort of dampens the 'puzzle theme' of KSP. Sure, I think devs can implement it in such a way that changing size beyond a certain limit would need you to research a new tech node, but thats just my opinion. In my case, 60$ translates to 4200 INR. That's a 5th of my salary. I dont spend that much money on a game(I am bit of a miser ), but this is KSP 2 we are talking about!! There's still time to save up the cash I need. Even then, I would be very cautious. Like someone said, "The higher your hopes will be, the harder they usually crash."

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
Selective Genius replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I was rummaging through the source code of "Flyby Finder". At the part where the creator was writing the orbital parameters, he wrote the 'mean period' of the planets (orbparams[0,9]) in terms of rads/day. orbparams[0,0]:= 168609380000; {MOHO grav parameter, m^3/s^2} orbparams[0,1]:= 250000; {radius, meters} orbparams[0,2]:= 9647000; {Sphere of influence radius, meters} orbparams[0,3]:= 5263138304; {semimajor axis, meters} orbparams[0,4]:= 0.2; {ecccentricity} orbparams[0,5]:= 0.122173048; {inclination, radians} orbparams[0,6]:= 0.261799388; {arg of periapsis, radians} orbparams[0,7]:= 1.221730476; {long. of asc. node, radians} orbparams[0,8]:= 2.89499662; {mean anomaly at 0, radians} orbparams[0,9]:= 0.24500338; {mean motion, rads/day} orbparams[0,10]:=0; {atmosphere is dangerous below this height} I don't get how that value was obtained! Can someone please help me out?
