  1. I wanted to know if it's possible to add neutral/friendly mobs to this game (Kerbin animals, Duna and Laythe aliens etc.). This will add a lot to the 'exploration' part of the game. Recording each specimen of flora and fauna, finding out about alien culture and tradition, stuff like that..
  2. Ok, so I was looking up some history and a plot bunny hit me. Trade between the Europe and the East happened through land routes, with the Red Sea route being the favored route. But when Constantinople fell to the Ottoman Turks, the Red Sea fell to Arab hands and the entirety of Eastern Merchandise went to Europe through Arab intermediaries. This led to an insane increase in the price of Indian and Chinese imports, which prompted the Europeans to discover a sea route to India. In interplanetary trade, could a similar 'Red Sea' exist? Without which traders from Kerbin would need alternate trade routes to Jool and beyond? And if yes what could be the most plausible choice? Dres comes to mind, as a Fuel Depot of sorts, but I am hoping for more options?
  3. Atleast it does not have alternate solids and hypergols like the PSLV. I am pretty sure if we somehow managed to revive the genii of Rocketry and spaceflight and show them the specs of PSLV, those guys will just scream "BUT WHYYYYYYY??" and drop dead again..
  4. Nightmare fuel. Also, are those lumps on the Kerbal's body mutations from overusing the Mystery Goo of youth while not being an orange suit?
  5. Who's a friend? An enemy who has not attacked you yet?
  6. So, I suggested to my immediate senior if i could refine some hydrogen peroxide to 85% concentration. She whacked me, got emotional and made me promise not to even think about it before telling me different ways it could kill me. I thought that was it. End of story. But no, there's more... Apparently, she let it slip to someone, and consequently rumors started spreading and growing. 3 1liter bottles of hydrogen peroxide are missing from the inventory now, and I am the prime suspect. There's a DisCo (Disciplinary Committee) hearing on Monday. It's been only 3 weeks since I joined, so I don't have any real influence in the organization. This is a clear-cut case of intentional sabotage against me. Any tips on what I must do? I was thinking of filing a complaint in HR against my senior for assault at workplace, but it will not hold any weight and it would seem I am trying to cover up my actions by diverting the focus away from me.. I just became relevant in my family when I got this job, I dont want to lose it again. But most importantly, I don't want to be branded as a thief.
  7. I dont really mind ...I mean her slaps are not malificient in nature, she is too good-natured for that. These are all in good fun.. It's been almost part of my daily routine. If she has not smacked me before lunch at least once then that means she is REALLY sad/angry for some reason, even if she seems to behave normally. I guess 'slap' is a strong word... The impact strength is between a 'pat' and a 'clap'... yesterday's was harsh though, and honestly I deserved it.
  8. Yeah, I dont know what this fuel does, but there's boron and fluorine compounds, so definitely nothing pretty And are you kidding?? She will slap the mulch out of me, and her slaps hurt! (She finds an excuse to slap me almost everyday, yesterday's was extra spicy...) And then she would start crying, I am not very good at dealing with crying women...
  9. Okay, technically this happened yesterday. I work in an institute specializing in material science research. Since I am a CFD guy, I mostly deal with software and I barely have to move away from my computer. I overheard this exciting piece of news: A new batch of hydrogen peroxide had just arrived. I remembered that you could use kerosene and hydrogen peroxide as rocket propellant. But the peroxide was only 35% concentration. For use as propellant, a high concentration of 85-98% is required. I suggested my immediate senior(she's only an year older) that we should refine the peroxide even further, take it to 85%. That was a mistake, she smacked me.Smacked me so hard, my glasses flew off my ears. And then she got emotional (?) and made me promise that I will never mess with any chemicals. Otherwise she will lock me up in the computer lab. I was then told the horrors of High Test Peroxide, and a bazillion ways I could die from it. But all is not lost! I have permission to simulate Kerosene - HTP combustion in Ansys FLUENT. She will give me the machine time I need for that.
  10. Maybe I am, maybe Starship will not succeed at all, maybe Elon will have a heart attack, there are tons of ways this program would fail. You mentioned quite a few credible points. But the future is not forged by overcautious people. If we were too scared to walk out of the caves, 50 thousand years ago, we would still have been in caves.
  11. Musk's model of P2P is at the same stage where commercial aviation was at in the 1940s. Then, airplanes were seen as a faster, if not safer alternative to cross the atlantic, as compared to slower, but safe and proven ships. Today, Starship P2P is seen as a faster, if not safer alternative to move around the world, as compared to slower, but safe and proven airplanes. It's going to take a while though..
  12. THE OLD KOSMODROME: Parody of "Old Town Road (Horses in the back)" by Lil Nas X I hope it's not too bad!
  13. @Cunjo Carl, I might be wrong, but there's something iffy about these lines in @Nivee~'s code. for (time = 0.00; time <= 300.00; time += timeStep){ for (x = 1; x <= 99; x++ ){ for (y = 1; y <= 99; y++){ T_new[x][y] += coefficient*(T_old[x][y-1]-T_old[x][y]); } } The program calculates the temperature in a cell by using values from the neighboring cell. BUT! Only the cell at the east of the current cell. The cells on the north and south of the cell are not taken into account? Doesn't this approach reduces the 2D problem into several 1-D problems, with no connection between adjacent rows? Something like this(Hijacking Nivee's image): There's no connection between 1,0 and 1,1 as per as those lines of code. Moreover, the usual way is to discretize the domain and the equation, and then apply the TDMA method to solve the linear system of equations thus obtained, right? Or am I missing something here??
  14. I joined a research lab today. I got a chance to appear in the walk-in interview a few weeks ago, and I was selected! I was very excited, initially.... but there's this one girl.. She's an year younger than me, but has been in this lab for 2 years now. She thinks I am stupid. I am NOT stupid, just so you know! It's like, she does not want to register my presence in the room. I dunno why, but this irks me a lot.
  15. Don't use google for looking up serious research articles. Use scholar.google.com Also, ResearchGate is another useful source of research material. It's like facebook for researchers. Do a thorough literature review of existing research, organize them and maybe, you will find a research gap! You may try to fill in the gap with your own research, should you be inclined to do so. I would suggest you first understand the basics of using numerical methods for calculating integrals, solutions of ordinary and partial differential equations etc. Solidification/melting problems, if you also want to study the behavior of the liquid part, will incorporate a lot of partial differential equations, each having to be solved numerically. Also, decide on what scheme you would be using. From what I have observed, Finite Volume Method is the most accurate, but difficult to implement, and Finite Difference Method is the easiest to implement. MOST IMPORTANTLY, learn C properly. If you know how to implement file handling in C, you can do so much more than you can imagine. However, take one step at a time. It may be decades old, but there's a reason why it's still around. I would rather call it 'vintage'.
  16. So, I was playing the game and I had to cover the rocket with the payload fairing. But in real rockets, isn't the fairing size fixed? How can we do that in KSP?
  17. What's the best way to play this game? I have seen youtubers launch bazillion ton SSTOs to orbit, I cant do anything like that. And even my ships look very tiny and bland...
  18. Hello everyone! Most people call me an idiot, but some people call me a 'Selective Genius'. I think I like the second name more. I am new to KSP, I hope I will be good at it..And if not, maybe you guys could help???
