  1. Ahem, indeed...I successfully landed my 3 crew module and was then distracted by dinner. I launched and re-entered Kerbin perfectly. My smug self satisfaction was soon removed. Upon my return I noted I'd forgot to do my science AND plant flag whilst I was there...All that way for nothing. Ah well, at least my larger rocket has been tested fully. I feel like doing a Basil Fawlty to my PC.
  2. Success! I landed again, did science, paid note to where kerbin was and took off in that direction. I also landed pretty close to the launch site by some form of fluke. I wasnt aiming for it. I think Ive got the hang of this now. Got a bit nervous landing on Mun as I was still too fast but it just slowed in time to feather it down. I was mightily impressed. My wife just looked at me like an idiot. 317 Science. yay! I think Ive got all the normal anti normal, radial etc etc stuff sussed out. I picked my spot on Mun and landed there. So, Im simply a trainee now. Now Im off back there using the bigger capsule for 3 kerbins and a better rocket. To try a different biome. Then I should try some aircraft maybe. Bloody daft game, but strangely satisfying.
  3. I think I had it as my 2nd stage. My 1st stage was a very short stage too with a normal engine. I didnt get very high as I didnt wish to. I ran it normally using teh space bar to stage. But tbh, it may have been an entirely different engine test. I ran several last thurs/fri and at my age memory seems to disregard any sense of order. Good luck.
  4. I did this one very recently on the pad (last fri evening i think). It worked for me. Im on steam too. However I have a recollection of having to use an engine via staging to get the completion. It may have been this one. ie I launched with another and staged it as the next.
  5. Struts, struts and more stuts. Then when you think youve enough, add some more. I used to get all sorts happening like you during the launch, spinning & rolling and inverting etc. Im a noob too. But stuts sorted out nearly ALL my launch issues. Sometimes my rockets have an element of the Forth Railway bridge about them now, but they fly straight and true. Even with Bob at the helm.
  6. Yay! After much difficulty I landed on the Mun. Did loads of science, wandered about and then took off. Wrong trajectory, insufficient fuel...oh dear. Forgot to F5 the landing. I thus shook my fist unmerrily at the screen, decried the existence of Gods and went off and sulked in front of the telly. This daft game drives me nuts.
  7. Manouveaur! Why did I not know about this until now. Well, day before yesterday to be clear. Plus why is it such a pain to spell? This is a godsend and makes my Munar tourism effortless. As long as my too steep and too fast re-entry is ignored. God rest their little kerbin souls. F9 revived them and I fared better on 2nd attempt. Thanks to all above, I feel less of a complete and utter noob. Just a plain old noob now. Soon to be simply a trainee once I land there, but thats for this weekend perhaps when Ive unlocked some more R&D.
  8. When you are prograding from orbit to shift your apoapsis to intersect the mun, occassionally a blue or purple offshoot will appear with what appears to be a rotate sign on the end, what does this mean? I have a hunch Im supposed to do a moanouveur here, but have been unable to get any clarity. I only discovered manouveaurs by chance last evening hunting the wiki for answers. Any help greatly appreciated as Jeb is getting fed up missing the mun.
  9. F5 and F9 are my friends. That much I have learnt.
  10. Bouyed by my success getting to Mun, I built a plane. Which was too heavy to do anything. Wouldnt even taxi. So I lightened it. It moved, skewed right and blew up. So I built another. It moved, skewed left, rolled over and blew up. Undeterred I built another. It Flew! Spun, crashed, blew up and sunk into the sea. It was at this point I checked on here for a tutorial. My issue now is the tail fin rudder. When I place it, it rotates the AoL, from the centreline a few 10s of degrees to the right for some reason. Despite being mounted centrally on the tail piece. It flew, but thankfully I provided chutes. It burst into flames on touchdown. I then went and watched BBC2's dramatisation of the moon landing instead.
  11. Took two tourists to mun. Built a great rocket. Prob too much fuel on munar stage. Orbital stage was spot on. Landing was perfect but legs burnt off. Lots of aircraft missions to do, so i guess thats next.
  12. Thanks to all. It now makes sense. I was able to visit mun again. Its actually quite helpfull. Attempting to take tourists now and have encountered extra mass issues. Which should be simple enough to resolve via trial and error. Thanks once again.
  13. Thanks Bewing. That helps a lot and explains what i was seeing. Ill send Jeb to investigate tonight.
  14. Hi. I successfully visited mun using tips via youtube vids. Prograde burning just as mun came round horizon. After receiving funds etc, i upgraded the tracking station. Now when i try similar my path seems to go weird on me. Can someone point me towards a thread or help place which best describes how to navigate using the tracking station plz. Ta.
  15. i upgraded the tracking station and now have no idea how to use it. :) i also upgraded vas and launchpad. I now appear to be able to orbit at will. I visited the mun and returned with shedloads of research but missed a tiny bit. No kerbals have perished for a while and jebs getting cocky.
  16. Ive done several orbits. Done lots of research. Been to Mun. More science stuff. Returned. Recovered. I might just be getting the hang of this. (Famous last words)
  17. Restarted my game as only just discovered revert game. Which means i can experiment without kerbals running around on fire. Plus i’d run outta money. Almost sussed nav ball and map. Did some missions and research. Or more stuff i didnt know about. Now back to where i was and figured orbit out. So, im on track for orbit later. . Just need another small fuel tank this time. I really should use tutorials or read a manual. But ive always learnt more from mistakes. I think ive got the gist of it now.
  18. No Kerbals died last night. Ok, maybe one did. I dont know why. Actually, I do. I forgot the heat shield. I managed to build a rocket with boosters, several stages to get approx 200k, do some science and recover safely. This became repeatable until a program on geology came on bbc and I watched that instead. Tonight, it is orbit. I need to dust off my old Uni stuff on mechanics or probably wing it. The latter is likely until I face reality and reach for my books. Ive forgotten the equations, but not how to use them. Probably. Its a risky business and fortunately I personally am not doing them. Sorry Valentina.
  19. Thanks Pebbles. Something for me to aim towards. Instead of murdering Kerbals on the launchpad/recovery/deep space/other. I like the subtitles, means I can watch em at work whilst I await work calcs to finish.
  20. Hooray for post #5. I spent most of the evening last night doing the tutorials. Badly. Generally, I dont do tutorials. I like to learn the hard way. However, with consideration to the Kerbals I decided to try to limit their premature expiration. Well, that didnt quite go to plan. The horror...
  21. Well, I was hoping post #4 would be a daft question. But the occassion has risen to use post #4 to thank you for your welcome. Post #5 shall prob be the daft question. Heres to post #5 which is likely to centre on how to recover a kerbal from deep space.
  22. Hi to everyone. This is post #3. My 1st start was yesterday when I bought the game and Ive not done much to generate further posts. Ive killed many Kerbals on the launchpad and on recovery. I hope they dont harbour grudges. Post#4 will undoubtedly be a stupid question, so please roll eyes and sigh in preperation.
  23. For those of us with Grandchildren...sigh...drives me nuts
  24. Ive just bought it for my mac. Its fun, if a tad steep in learning curve. I killed numerous poor Kerbals on the launch pad. But Ive successfuly launched my first liquid fuelled rocket and recoved it. I think Im going to love this game as Im a geek, an engineer and love the real learning aspect of this game. So, Im a complete noob and will undoubtedly ask loads of stupid questions. (Throttle Up, took me some time to figure out for instance).
