What the... How in Jeb's name is that supposed to work??
-
so Jeb has joined up with Bob and Bill*, Magfrid and Patbert have returned from the expedition to Minmus, and I continue to shoot Val and Tiul off in experimental aircraft. i don't know why i do this to myself. i don't know how to build a spaceplane.i launch them and eventually they end up falling and i cannot pull out of the dive. *Heremone Kerman will have to wait for the next rocket.

banned cuz my laptop was being a baby and not charging and shut down on me.
-
did some science harvesting with val and tiul around kerbin, although once my minmus expedition gets back i should have lots of science. i also started a career game, did some contracts, mostly involving Jeb screeching through the atmosphere in a blaze of fire.

Banned because free fall is fun!

The Horrifying Implications of the Kerbin Crater

actually that raises a question. do any planets in the Kerbol system have axial tilt? -
banned because the spaceplane hanger is getting on my nerves.

totm dec 2019 What crimes against Kerbin have you committed?

WOW. -
I went ahead and launched the improved MunExtractor, landing it some fifty km from where Bill and Bob are. More solar panels, more radiators, bigger drills. The spaceplane hangar remains infuriating. I built a plane that flies okay, took it out, and it just. It flew okay for a while, but turning is extremely finicky even with the flaps adjusted, and the tricks for handling a falling aircraft do not seem to work. In a flat spin? Drop the yoke and rudder counter to the spin. Doesn't really work. In a stall? Nose down and accelerate. Okay, but I'm also tumbling wildly and I don't know how to solve that. Should not the airflow be preventing excessive rolling? Should it not prevent sharp yawing? A plane should not be spinning sharply around the y axis! You turn the rudder and the air resists the turn, which causes you to bank! Particularly at higher speeds! You don't just snap around! And you also don't have the rudder go all the way over! you keep it angled as you progress through the turn! And it doesn't provide lift! Why is it shifting the center of lift??? It doesn't lift it stabilizes!! I had to use the drogue chutes to provide enough drag to stabilize it out of the fall it was in!

Banned for spelling system wrong

banned because i'm not drifting through space I'm plummeting toward the sea.

Banned because i did not eat a reeses peanut butter cup!

that sound you hear is my laptop melting. Looks great though. i managed to fat finger the warp button and blew way past a maneuver with no recent quicksave. fortunately it was a minmus return so i could come around again, but i blew the mun flyby i had planned in order to toss me into a fairly close Kerbin orbit. The extractor i have on Mun with Bill and Bob is entirely insufficient for the job, I severely underestimated how much power it needed. I'm tempted to launch an upgraded version (you get a solar panel, and you get a solar panel) and see if i can land it near B&B so they can switch crafts, crack open the ore more effectively, and get Jeb. Or I could design a lander that doesn't fall over yet has enough fuel to deorbit, land, launch, and return to orbit.

Today I sent a probe up to collect some gravity data and deliver it to the KSS. I had to send the kerbal manning the station out to collect the data since once again i messed up the RCS placement. I also sent a probe in the direction of Duna, and mucked around in the spaceplane hangar some more. Still don't really know what I'm doing there...

Banned for having an invisible signature

Didn't get too much done today, I launched a craft to deliver radiators to the asteroid drill, this time with the RCS thrusters positioned better, so docking was pretty easy. I'm not actually sure if it's helping any though... The Scientist is not a badS, from the looks of it Kerbals are just ecstatically happy when reentering. I'm not actually sure what to do next... I'm playing science sandbox, and while my next objective should probably be to reach another planet... I'm not really sure how to do that. Also, as someone who took one (1) aerospace engineering class back in highschool, the airplane hangar is infinitely frustrating.

The Horrifying Implications of the Kerbin Crater
Nezclaw replied to Ace in Space's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I will say that I have wondered about the number of asteroids in Kerbin's orbit, since the current definition of a planet includes having an orbit cleared of most debris. -
i forgot the radiators on my asteroid drill. An attempt to dock a tiny craft with a couple radiators with it proved unsuccessful, as the RCS thrusters weren't positioned correctly. I also moved my Mun drill to a point with more ore. The craft landed on a twenty degree slope. I am filled with anxiety when i look at it. i don't have enough fuel to move it. i don't want to explode Bill and Bob. [edit]

i'm starting to think the scientist i pair with val might have the badS flag. i'll need to do a launch with her and val to check. I meant to do that today but got sidetracked with other things. Anyway, I got the telescope en route out of Kerbin's SOI, and my drill has intercepted the asteroid and begun drilling. I wonder if it might just be easier to retrieve bill and bob from mun and try something else to recover jeb, because the rig they're in has drill-o-matic juniors, bill's not a full level engineer, and there are not enough solar panels to adequately power the drills and converter full time. it was my first attempt at fuel extraction, so i didn't know yet how much power i needed. also i messed up the arrangement of ore tanks. one of them was on single symmetry instead of 3x symmetry. so i only have four instead of six.
-
i did none of these things! instead i popped to minmus and did some seat of my pants flying that ultimately resulted my rover sailing most of a hemisphere over the minmus landscape, crashing, breaking half its wheels and an engine, then unlocking a science node, before patbert successfully intercepted the orbiting craft and boarded despite running out of monoprop. no reverting needed! this game is not conducive to getting to bed at a reasonable hour.

The Horrifying Implications of the Kerbin Crater
Nezclaw replied to Ace in Space's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Could it also be a crater from a supervolcano? -
what if i'm using linux but running it in WINE? /j anyway, i finally got Valentina and Tiul home from orbit, after much swearing, resetting, and fending off baby kraken. my to-do list includes launching the sentinel telescope into solar orbit, having bill and bob pick up jeb and return to kerbin, getting my asteroid drill launched, and figuring out how to launch a craft to the next planet.
-
aight, thanks that's about what i figured. in other news, i managed to botch a rendezvous in high Kerbin orbit twice by fat fingering the staging. it wasn't even the rendezvous. it was the return craft supposed to bring Val home. At that point i realized i should probably stop playing KSP and just go to bed. in retrospect, coupling the craft with docking ports on the late stages may not have been the best call.
-
Banned because I just botched a launch and had a booster take out a fuel tank.

I am trying to figure out how best to launch my asteroid drill to intercept the asteroid that is on a very nearly polar orbit without having to burn too much normal/antinormal.
