    Kerbal Super Realism

    KSR features new things like:

Governments - to take away your budget until you make almost no money!

The News - There to laugh at all your failures and barely cover it when you do things well!

Life Support - Like Kerbalism but with more intense features, training lasts a year, your astronauts can randomly die of heart attacks and other problems!

New Planets - RSS and other solar systems, galaxies, and other cool features. To bad everything is light years away and there is no time warp!

Improved Time warp - What are you talking about, there is no time warp! This KSR!

N-body physics - have fun station keeping and having to fix your orbits every couple of days!

Piloting - The kerbals pilot it for you! Did you train them well? If you didn't, then that $1,000,000,000 spaceship is going to be a hole in the ground and your wallet!

Tech Tree - No tech tree, no science points either! Instead you come up with the parts and the kerbals build them for you! Does this sound better than the current system? Well guess what! Its worse! You can build things wrong, because the parts are incredibly complex, and then they will blow up!

Construction time - Did you expect to build that building instantly! (Laughs in construction worker) Nice try! It's going to take 5-10 years!

Funding system - Not only does the government give you a tiny budget, but you also have them asking you to do more work! Launch our spy satellite!

Wars and Pandemics - In case running a space program isn't hard enough, now you can run it during a war! Slash that budget even more! Or a pandemic! How dare you make the kerbals work during a pandemic! They should be at home, quarantining!

Workers and employeesDid you think space programs should be run by you only? Nope! Now you need to pay the workers, engineers, flight directors, doctors, etc!

YouUnlike the stock game, your future is never secure! You could be randomly fired, which we simulate by uninstalling your game and removing the fact that you payed for it! (no refunds!)*

Part Failures -  KSR now has part failures! Every part can (and will) fail spectacularly! Everything!

As for restricting kerbal abilities, I disagree. There are too few reasons to actually use kerbals already and nerfing them more would only make this problem worse.

Not really, the main benefit of kerbals in this system would be no comm delay and being able to use the probe cores features without delay. This means that that probe core and the Kerbals are useless for docking outside of LKO separately, but provide a ksp1 like experience together. Plus comm delay is such a big rebalance to probe cores that it arguably makes Kerbals more useless not less. This is more realistic too, because astronauts fly with a lot of help from computers. Also making both Kerbals and probes have advantages and disadvantages would be better than the stock system of one making you feel guilty when you kill them and the other needing constant ec.

The limitations of probe cores especially on lower limits is a good idea. I 95% agree with everything. But I feel the later ones are a bit OP, I guess it would be higher tier meaning more advanced though. We are talking about a game with metallic hydrogen and "torch drives" so nothing is out of the ballpark

Your correct, everything beyond small remote guidance is future tech, and everything beyond hecs3 is fusion tier tech. Dodec 2 is antimatter level tech.

  3. Here's my idea to make probes more realistic, while adding stock mechjeb in a fair way:

Step 1: add communication delay. The way this would work is pretty simple. A time delay is added between when a command (like pitch up) is given and when it is initiated. The further you are from Kerbin the longer it takes. To compensate this probe cores will be given automation such as being able to execute maneuvers automatically and on higher level cores avoiding danger.

Step 2: add mechjeb like automation to probe cores, the features form a hierarchy like this:

    • Stayputnik: same features as in the stock game, plus communication delay, no SAS.
    • Okto: Same as stayputnik but has SAS, smart A.S.S, and prograde retrograde lock.
    • Hecs: Same as Okto, but can automatically execute maneuver and has maneuver lock.
    • Okto2: Same as hecs but also has normal/antinormal and radial in/out lock.
    • Rovemate: Same as hecs but has a bon voyage like rover autopilot. It is limited to a top speed of 0.05 m/s though.
    • Small remote guidance unit: Same as Okto2, but has target mode and target lock.
    • Large remote guidance unit: Same as the small one, but it has support for auto gravity turn and orbital insertion, as well as the ability to run simple kos like scripts.
    • Hecs2: Same as large remote guidance except it has more advanced kos
    • Hecs3: A new probe core that can be set to stabilize its orbit automatically if is on an impact trajectory. Has also features of hecs2
    • Dodec: A new probe core that can automatically orbit and transfer to any body and has full kos. All features of Hecs3
    • Dodec2: all probe core features and full mechjeb and kos.

Step 3: change what Kerbals can do:

    Kerbals can now:

    • Increase the top speed of the rovemate to 15 m/s.
    • Use probe core specific features like smart A.S.S. without time delay.

    Kerbals can no longer:

    • Use docking mode.
    • Use target mode on navball.

My ideas aren't perfect, but they get the point across, so what do you guys think of the idea and how it should be implemented?

  4. To point out how bad this is, my friend had a crash in his first day, in a pure stock windows 10 install. And even my heavily modded installs usually only have a few more crashes than his. And we're both playing on modern pc's that easily meet the reccomended requirements. I don't know about you but 1.10 was one of the most unstable releases I've every played on,and 1.10.1 is hardly convincing. Despite the version numbers ksp is really a fully priced early access game with played dlc! Come on squad, NO MORE CONTENT. 1.11 should be the bug update, or else I will probably quit until ksp2.

  5. Kerbal War Program: battle royale.

A mod for Luna multiplayer that reveals the real reason for T2's acquisition of ksp.

Run around Kerbin to collect parts!

Enter vab's scattered across the map to repair your ship and add new parts!

Kill your opponents and take fragments of their ship!

A laser wall will slowly force players into a 500 meter dome on the starting planet!

    Buy op guns from T2!

Play for free! (Uness you want to win against the "good" players.)

Dependencies ksp (Windows only, no Mac or Linux) Luna Multiplayer, BD armory.

    Spoiler

That actually sounds pretty fun without the microtransactions

  6. Kerbal babysitting simulator: New life support mod for the RO/JNSQ type player.

    Includes:

    Whining kerbonauts,

    Radaition,

    Built in graphing calculator,

7 different but related consumables that force you to use the graphing calculator,

80+ ways to kill your crew,

    Crew is prohibitively expensive,

Crew will mutiny if you don't do everything perfectly,

Will cause bsod if you run out of ec,

    Poor documentation,

    And more!

  7. The other issue with mods is how unstable they can be and how they react to updates. EVE and especially scatterer often have crashes and scatterer has been at least a little buggy since it has existed (although it is a lot better now.) Plus EVE and scatterer break almost every update, and are usually not available for at least a month. And then there's also the fact that squad is adding quality that looks out of place (and cannot be fully enjoyed) without mods:

    40044fa93f5a36ee540e2e85842ba748001018d1

Notice the high quality terrain and disgusting atmosphere. Even a simple haze effect and color rebalance on the atmosphere would improve the image by orders of magnitude while having little effect on performance.

And then there is the opposite problem:

    OIP.LZ0qF1OxLzBjaYA8X74j5gHaG_?pid=Api

If there was a simple optional haze effect you could tell that Kerbin actually has an atmosphere!

Also, not sure if this is true, but wouldn't a stock implementation of EVE and scatterer be less laggy.

Fine here is a roast (even though I support SLS.) But this one is just ridiculous

    Starship.

Block 1 is sad though, a 800 million dollar rocket that has slightly more payload capacity than an expendable falcon heavy.

If you have overheating problems with an SSTO, just add more wing and use a higher AoA to slow down faster before you bite into thicker air.

That is true for most parts, but the plane command pods really need a heat improvement, same thing with the nose cones. Currently fairings have a higher heat tolerance than nose cones so those aren't urgent, but the mk1 and mk2 command pods desperately need a fix. The issue with your strategy is that you have to have such a high apoapsis to not overheat that aerobreaking from even a Mün return can take hours due to the small velocity change and lift from your wings. There is a solution which is to use an inline cockpit shielded by a fairing, or placing a mk1 command pods in a fairing, but the former only works if your pointing exactly prograde and the latter is ugly, so a new part of small rebalance is justified.

It would be interesting if parts had an option for ablative coatings. They could add mass depending on how much used (like the current settings on dedicated heat shields). They would wear away as they're used in intense aerobraking, reentry, or just supersonic flight.

In real life, ablative paint coatings were added to the X-15 when it became clear that the fuselage needed shielding of some kind.

This should exist for all parts, not just aerodynamic parts.

Why not just make it multiple NERVs clustered together inside a 2.5m shroud?

This came up about a year or so ago but my response to any cosmetic changes that substantially raise the game's hardware requirements is a definite "no". KSP is already a tough enough nut to run with satisfactory performance on old hardware as it is.

Should there be mods that make the game prettier? By all means, people whose rigs can take the nicer graphics should have every bit as much fun with the game as everyone else. Make it stock and lock people with potato rigs like non-gaming laptops out from being able to play at all? Hell no. Touching up the planets' surface is fine and I think the skybox should get a touch-up too, but no making the game require 2-3-4 generations newer video cards.

This wouldn't be scatterer level, just replacing the layer of plastic around Kerbin with something that looks decent. Plus, the potato community will always be angry when people suggest a feature that raises the minimum requirements above their I2 duo's and 2 gb ddr2 ram. I think a reasonable minimum requirements for the game would be a somewhat modern cup (Intel I3 or equivalent,) able to run on integrated graphics on said cpu and 4gb ddr3 ram (admittedly with the minimum requirements you would expect 30fps 720p lowest settings, but that's expected for this kind of "entry level" hardware.) But the games normal or high setting should be able to be raised to at least ps3 graphics, with support for modern dx11 capable gpu's and features such as color grading and anti aliasing. The stock atmosphere and water shader are abysmal though, just adding scatterer like water (just the texture and animation, not the extra bells and whistles,) make the stock sunflare less underwhelming, and add an optional high quality atmosphere setting, and the stock graphics could be massively improved for little to no performance impact. It's also about time ksp raise its requirements from "raspi 2" to " entry level laptop, " since that would help most of the playerbase and only effect 500 people.

Just to clarify, most of ksp's lag is from cpu not gpu, so graphical improvements likely won't cause performance problems for the vast majority and may cause dram drops for a very small minority.

True. So does alot of first things. The thing is, when you launch 1 SLS it's going to be expensive at first, then the second one launches at a lower, then the third and so on.

That doesn't matter if it gets cancelled though. I'm not totally convinced that starship is he way to go to if 2024 is the goal (of course I think it will be delayed and 2028 is a more reasonable goal) starship may not be mature enough then. But what about falcon 9/heavy, crew dragon and other existing rockets. My idea is that you could use two falcon heavy's and 1 falcon 9. One falcon heavy would driver a lander to low lunar orbit (or maybe lunar transfer where the lander would use it's own engines to capture and circularize.) A second falcon heavy would carry a hydrolox transfer stage (using existing engines like rl-10.) Then a crew Dragon with a lunar rated heat shield would be launched with crew on board and dock with the hyrdrolox stage in LEO. The crew dragon hydrolox spacecraft would transfer to the moon and dock with the lander and from there it would be like Apollo. If anyone here is good at math and whatnot then could you enlighten me on the feasibility of this idea? And if it's any better than SLS.
