What is the most explosive and destructive stock part in the game? Im planning on making a series of ballistic missiles.
-
So, my cousin and her family came here for New year's Eve. (happy new year btw!) I showed her KSP and she got it kinda well! (Only the controls, of course). The challenge is simple: teach a family member (father, mother, cousin, uncle, aunt or a grandparent) how to fly, orbit and land on the Mün! Rules: -Mods allowed. All except Mechjeb. -Stock rockets like the Kerbal X are allowed -It isn't necessary for the rocket to be built by them: you can build it too! -You might help them at certain moments, only by telling them what to do. -By using the Dang It! mod, you are making it more fun! -Do it ONLY WHEN THEY WANT. Dont do it if they don't want to. Dont abuse them to do the challenge Bonus: -You taught them how to build and use a fully reusable SSTO? Congrats! -They built a reusable first stage and landed it back on Kerbin? Congrats! -Fully reusable rocket? Congrats! -Doing my No orbit to the Mün challenge? Congrats! -Landing on the Mün more than once in a single flight? Congrats! (Strattenblitz75?) -Minmus? Congrats! Have fun!

What do you mean by "poorly made"? That's a true piece of art!
-
Also, by Are you talking about the total of 16 kerbals or just the 4 at first?
-
So, can I do this in sandbox by just not going over 100k funds? I might as well do that soon, since my first Duna mission is still not launched but VERY close to flight. But since im on the "Enhanced" edition, I cant use mods. That means that in phase 2 I shouldn't use the greenhouse but still send the cargo landers and more crew?

To the Mün without orbit
Aerodynamic Kerbal replied to Aerodynamic Kerbal's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Yeah so I, myself, made a logo for the challenge: I also made it compatible so you can put it in your signature -
Another day of stock KSP... This time I'll post some old screenshots that I found as well. First of all, Merry (Late) Christmas! I got several space-related stuff: some NASA pajamas, a small encyclopedia, a Space Race DVD and a puzzle with rockets. So, as I started building it, there were the 3 SLS blocks. SLS? YES! BIG BRAIN IDEA! SLS IN KSP! I made it. It has a working Launch Escape System and plenty of Delta V! (I bet it can reach minmus...) The test flight was just a small vacation for Jeb, Bill and Bob: a trip to the space station. Good. But now I wanted to make my first Duna mission for this save. Its not the previously built Dunar 1, Its a new one. UltraMax MegaRover 2. Derived from the legendary UltraMax MegaRover that was on my old save: The original was easy to flip over though. So I made it: UltraMax MegaRover 2 Its cute! So I edited it and gave it eyes: It also has a station, that landed the rover and would of currently had a use if I PUT AN ANTENA AND A DOCKING PORT ON IT. Maybe I should just crash it... I also put a small comunnication sat on the rocket, but I don't have a pic of it... You can see it on the top of the craft though. It has 4 of the 3x2 panels. You can as well see it during first aerobraking attempt: I decided to make it a patch in MS paint. The name is inspired by the Pathfinder (obviously). I think of sending one on Eve, Moho, attempt for Jool's moons, Eeloo, Ike, many places around Kerbin and on the Mun/Minmus. That means it should be everywhere! I hope it has enough fuel with that upper stage though... Yep, thats it for yesterday. Now: Old pics: 1. Some of my first ever planes. I was inspired by Jacksepticeye's planes. 2. Mun/Minmus things. I think thats one of my first attempts at a Mun mission, during launch. The lifter is unknown, and I remember that something went wrong on launch... My first ever rover I call it "Tesla Mun". I also launched the same, but for Minmus. "Tesla Minmus" Didn't land properly and lost one of its energy generators and its rear wheels. Fun fact: The design was originally called "UltraMax MegaRover", but was later renamed "UltraMax MegaRover moon edition" Looks familiar, huh? Just like the "UltraMax MegaRover 2"? Yeah, coincidence. That might be my first successful Mun mission: And my first Mun and back mission. I used the soviet two seater, because why not?: And if I quite know right: I have screenshots (from the achievements) from my fist kerbal mission there, but I haven't moved them to my laptop. Me smol brain moment. And of course: The Mun ground station expedition 1: This is just from the Apollo-style docking. Wow! Such a low altitude! For the landing I told myself: "North or South pole because why not?" And I got the South one. Many wanted to see the "Old style rocket": Tested on Minmus, probably able to land on the Mun and hopefully put a Science Jr on it. 3. First orbital EVA Sure, its not my first, but its one of the first: 4. Boom on shuttle attempt. Boom. Boom Boom 5. Duna Yeah, here is my first Duna landing, the Kerbiking 1 Get it? funy because Viking 1. Haha! (pls kill me for my bad jokes) This is my first Kerbals on Duna attempt. In fact, the docking was the problem because I ran out of MP. Its the same rocket as the Mun station: Expedition 1 Oh, and the first rover on Duna. The skycrane decoupling went bad and... 6. Jool Now, moon flybys are BORING. Here are some of the probes I sent there. 7. Easter eggs 8. Kercury Greenstone (kill me for bad jokes) 9. Others I'm almost completely sure that this is going to be on a new page. Bet!

To the Mün without orbit
Aerodynamic Kerbal replied to Aerodynamic Kerbal's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Hmmmmm, yeah just like that! -
Idea I thought of this myself, didn't even attempt to see if its possible. I was just scrolling through Tik Tok and then... IDEA! Rules: Don't orbit Kerbin or the Mün. That means you should takeoff and set a direct course to the Mün. Then you should directly land on the Mün and directly takeoff, set a direct SUB-ORBITAL course to Kerbin and land succesfully. And yes, if you get a parachute failure, you can use the personal parachutes. Quicksaves and mid-course corrections are allowed. It will be more fun if you use the DANG IT mod! Mods might as well be allowed, but its recommended on stock. DO NOT USE MECHJEB. Post pictures of the flight, that show the trajectories. Don't forget to show pics of the thing of a rocket you used! It is recommended to use videos, if you have a YT channel. Im not sure if somebody did that already, but wahtever. Good luck! Note: A Kerbin orbit is a trajectory with a periapsis of at least 70km. So if your course is with a periapsis of 20km, its still sub-orbital. Bonus: Congrats if you can send a rover too or make it to Minmus! Congrats if you can not set a course and burn STRAIGHT at the Mun! That takes a lot of fuel, but you can sure try that! Leaderboard: @Sky Kerman @QF9E @Jack Joseph Kerman

In fact, its easy. You don't use separate controls for rotational/linear, you toggle it with docking mode and then use X to switch between lin/rot. And you move with the same stick. Easy as cake!
-
After all, I still think console CONTROLS are better. Especially for docking. I've played this game on Roblox called Space Sailors that uses the same docking controls (i think, never played the laptop/PC version) OH GOD, IS IT HARD

I keep talking about the disaster
-
If you want it 3.75m the you can use the Rhino as an orbital insertion stage, also the Skipper might be used in the first stage, but I recommend a Maisail for a 2.5m lifter
-
Are all of the features in these updates going to be in console?
-
Skipper will forever be my waifu engine ITS SUPERIOR!

Thanks to the magic of quicksaves, Jeb, Bill and Bob are ALIVE!!!! Had to abort my Duna mission though. Whatever. Here is the BIG faring on the launch vehicle Note: Thats the size of the rocket without the capsule and the first stage engines. I made such a faring so that the rocket doesn't flip in the atmosphere. I started making a series of airplanes, called HATA (high altitude test aircraft) I didn't get a picture of Mk1, but I have several from Mk2 It made It to 30km, which is quite high! Full engine flameout at 20-25km. Then, I attempted sending a new gravity ring for the space station and I asked myself "How dumb can the fairing look?" This is what I thought of Just as I was slowing myself, MP ran out. I call that a bruh moment. For saving Jeb and his crew, I reverted to the last quicksave with Jeb. He and Bill were on the station, on their last spaceflight, without knowing it. They were about to undock from the station, excited for their eventual Duna mission, when Val, who saw everything, told them about the disaster. OK, it was good. But I wanted something a little different. I've never landed at the desert airfield, so I did it! Yes, I was lazy to orbit Kerbin again for a better approach, yes I needed several attempts, yes I MADE IT! Note: If you want to land there, keep in ming that the runways aren't 09 and 27. They're almost pointing at the poles. "Why am I near a cactus and not on the runway in this picture?" Oh, silly one, I wanted to take a closer look at it! And then, I decided I should test each rocket in the game. I didn't test some like the Kerbal-1, Kerbal-X, but whatever. They're kinda boring. I tested the AeroEquus, which handles really well. I suppose that with this fuel it might fly-by ze Mun or Minmus, but instead I went for a very high orbit. 10/10. Very easy to fly. And then comes the time for the ComSat LX. I attempted a Kerbin Synchronous orbit and... I MADE IT! Now it stays above East of the KSC. And then the Z-MAP Sattelite launch kit. I put it in a 120km polar orbit. 10/10 for both sats. And then, career playthrough. I'm not a man that would post it on YT, but the farthest I made it to was atmosphere escape. So far so good! And for those who would commit self dead if they don't see my space station, well, here it is!

Jeb, Bill and Bob are dead... F KSP "ENHANCED" EDITION'S BUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE GAME CRASHED AND BECAUSE OF THAT REASON THEYRE DEAD. IT WAS A TEST FLIGHT FOR A DUNA MISSION, TO SHOW THE THING'S BIG FAIRING. AND THEN... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Valentina will be the first to touch Duna, because she was the closest to Jeb.

Here is the disaster vid, I edited it in the morning:

Long stuff to explain. These happened in the past 2 times I've played. So: I wanted to make a Soyuz (Koyuz in kerbinese) to get Jeb and the crew of 4 back home (Jeb was going to board it). The test flight went unexpectedly well, so I managed to make an encounter. Bad thing was that I was coming at too fast of a speed, meaning I slowed down very s l o w. I went closer to it, but one of the rcs thrusters didn't work and I crashed into a solar panel. Then another thing happened: I FORGOT SOLAR PANELS!!!11!1 Electricity ran out and the ship went in a spin I couldn't recover from. I had to move the kerbals with EVA. Bad thing is, the last kerbal CRASHED INTO A SOLAR PANEL. Lost 2 panels for a day... Jeb entered the ship, unlike the first Soyuz flight, the parachutes worked and then Val, Bill and Bob landed as well. Here are Koyuz pics. Good, now I wanted to give the station a GRAVITY RING. I designed it. I just had to build a rocket to lift it up. OHHOHOHOHO, DID I MAKE IT BIG OK, now the new station: But the next day, I wanted to de-orbit it, because L A G. First, I had to sent a habitation module, because there were kerbals in the ring. But then AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I would post a vid on YT later, but here is the explanation: I went too aggressive and I CRASHED into the station. PANIC!!! I LOST THE TRANSFER STAGE, luckily the module and the station looked pretty intact. Then I successfully docked. What happened was that the fuel tank along with the engines saved me and the decoupler worked as a shield. Impact with 75m/s? That was hard... Then: the de-orbiting. Jeb, Bill and Bob were brave enough to get on a ship to de-orbit it. Here is the ship and the ring docked The situation went kinda... Pirs style. Here is boom and fire and boom: And the station with lag lowered to minimum: I wanted to do one last thing: Solar arrays, sent there with my shuttle. It was to successfully prove that the shuttle can bring a payload to at least 350Km and land from there. Sadly, out of all of the pictures of the solar arrays, none had them visible well enough. Whatever, landing. First attempt didn't work because of bad trajectory. I pointed 90 degrees, but I still overshot it. However, the second attempt was more than successful. HOWEVER, the up is up, down is up bug occurred again. This time, I used the deploy fins function with the stage action group. Landing was Ryanair style, but whatever, I made it. And if you really REALLY can't survive without seeing the panels,

You appear to have a GMOD or TF2 pfp, which is an epic gamer moment.

OK, so its details time! (this is for the stuff I did yesterday) I tested a new version with Thud engines for more power, just so that I had room for a docking port and it turned out really good! Only problem was I did the de-orbit burn too early and I had to point 0 degrees during re-entry for a while... and the landing, well... I was going too fast and... After that I made a cargo version and launched a cute satellite The landing was successful, but I had to use the "deploy" function for pitch, because a bug occurred again And now here are some pics from the station while Jeb was alone... And then I thought "Hmmmm, Jeb is up there, but he is necessary for the space program!" So, I sent a spacecraft to get him back home, but I realized, that I had 3 and not 2 kerbals on the spacecraft, but it was too late: There was already a good encounter set up. "Screw it, ill send another spacecraft later" I said to myself. So, here it is docked Then I made a pic of Bob and Val sitting in the crew cabin I think thats my longest post on the forum yet! Now I'm gonna go and play again, details later. Note: Thats the first time I've docked without using the "Matt Lowne lazy method". Weeee!

Today I didn't really do a lot. I made two flights with the shuttle, one to test Thud engines and a docking port instead of a Terrier without a docking compartment and another one to test a cargo version, carrying a small sat. Then I decided to try and make myself an old styled Kerbal X (I have realised I didn't make screenshots of it). After that, I made a new rocket, named after my "Crew lifter" from my old save. Its just called "Crew lifter 2". The use of this rocket is to carry kerbals to a station and back. It was to rescue Jeb, who was launched with the first module on purpose. But then I realized... I forgot to send 2, and not 3 kerbals. It was too late. I was in orbit, encounter was good, so I said to myself "Screw it, Ill send another mission". They docked and now they're all on the station. Will launch another spacecraft so the four original kerbals can go back home. That's all for today. Pictures will be in the thread by tomorrow.
