I also picked Duna, but only because you can actually land on it. Jool is prettier overall, imo, especially as seen from the closest moons.

That eclipse is super cool! Yesterday I built a simple little space station/science lab above Minmus. I also sent a probe to different orbits, both with awful inclinations, around the Mun and Kerbin to fulfill a couple of contracts. I noticed the transfer window for Duna was closing fast, so I decided to send it over there just because I still had a ton of fuel. I don't know if the antenna on it will be powerful enough to maintain connection to the network, but it will at least fly by no matter what.

I fulfilled three "rescue so-and-so from orbit of Minmus" contracts all at once. I just stacked a bunch of lander cans, each with its own set of parachutes, with decouplers inbetween them so they could individually float gracefully down to Kerbin. We ended up landing near one of the poles, but everyone made it back safely and I made over $300k which will go towards upgrading my launchpad in my hard-mode career playthrough. Here's Jeb patiently waiting for some of his new friends to land:

Videos like these from Robbaz are why I ended up buying this game all those years ago:

That lazy bum Ronzer couldn't help push as well?? I'm just teasing. I hope you can get Valentina back home someday.

Funny you should say that because I consider Minecraft to be my all time favorite game, with KSP a (very) close 2nd. They're probably more like 1a and 1b depending on my mood though. From 2014-2019 I pretty much played nothing but Minecraft, KSP, and whatever new Mario/Zelda game came out. SimCity is another beloved franchise to me...at least until the 2013 reboot anyway. What a great letter. It captures the same essence of how much I adore this game.

Kerbal Space Program Hardcore with Tabarnouche Interplanetary
Gamera Obscura replied to 256's topic in KSP Fan Works
The glider episode was pretty funny. But then I realized that it still flew better than most airplanes I ever built and became depressed. How I ever built a couple SSTOs is beyond me, but I really wish I could remember the designs...and how to fly them.- 28 replies

For some reason, I've almost never played KSP in sandbox mode. I started with science mode because I felt overwhelmed with having every part all at once not even knowing how to play yet. Then I moved on to career mode once that was introduced. I almost exclusively played on normal difficulty, shying away from the permadeath and nerfed science/money rewards offered by higher difficulties. After getting back into this (without much struggle) after a 2-3 year hiatus, I feel like I'm "good enough" to at least give hard mode a shot and decided to chronicle my adventures. These are pretty heavily edited to eliminate the inherent downtime in this game. I try my best to explain some of the stuff I do, as somewhat of a tutorial...but I'm certainly no expert. Anyway, feel free to have a look and maybe even give some pointers. This is the only episode currently published, but I've already recorded enough that I'm starting to get some "Explore Eve" contracts. I've gotten much more used to the game, but I know I still play rather inefficiently due not truly understanding the finer points of space travel, haha. New episodes will publish on Sundays.

Same for me. I bought the game at .23, but .23.5 came out soon after. I loved the added challenge of career mode over science mode that was introduced in .24, and .25 improved a bit on that. But I've always thought the game improved with each update, and I'm sure the release of 1.12 will be no exception.

Thanks for the warm welcomes, everyone. Browsing the posts here and there over the years, I was always impressed with how friendly and supportive the KSP community is. I really don't know why I never made the leap from lurker to active member before.

I went to the north pole of Minmus and watched the sun circle around the horizon, just barely setting for a few moments during the time warp. I'd love to see a polar day in real life sometime.

Why no Switching to Other stuff in Atmoshpere?
Gamera Obscura replied to kerbalk's topic in KSP1 Discussion
My guess: If something is in atmosphere, it's inevitably going to reach the surface at some point. Depending on its Ap and Pe, it could take days...or just a few minutes. Maybe they were just trying to protect us from switching away from it and forgetting about it until it was too late. -
I was trying to dock two probes around the Mun. After using the main engines to get them less than 100m away, I went to use RCS but thought it wasn't working because the probes were no longer in the network (on the dark side of the Mun, and relatively early on in this playthrough). In hindsight, I think I just forgot the proper keybinding for the direction I was trying to go. Anyway, I had activated RCS on both crafts and had them keep pointing at each other's docking ports. I was just going to wait until they got to other side of the Mun so they'd get network access again. However, their orbits ended up getting them close enough to each other that they docked entirely on their own. It was pretty fun sitting back and watching that happen because it was the first time I tried docking anything in about 3 years.

I'm not really new to KSP or these forums, but I don't think I ever made an account to post stuff before for some reason. Anyway, I've been playing since 0.23, but had stepped away for a couple years because of that pesky thing called "life". It was a pity because I just finally gotten good at building spaceplanes (it took only 4 years...) and even built a few SSTOs. I've recently come back only to find myself several major updates behind. However, I found getting back into the game surprisingly easy and feel like I understand some things even better than I did back then. I'm far from being an expert, but give me enough boosters and I'll take you anywhere you want go. Trips to Eve are one way only though. I saw that this game was finally getting its last big update and felt compelled to join so I could be around when KSP2 finally launches. It's crazy to think I've been playing KSP since my son was an infant and now he's old enough to appreciate it when I make things blow up on purpose for his amusement.

How many hours of playtime do you have in KSP?
Gamera Obscura replied to JebIsBestPilot's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I don't have an official number (purchased from the KSP website back in 2014), but I can guarantee I have a few thousand hours over that span. I'm pretty sure the only game I've put more time into is Minecraft. -
You're right. The oldest version I can remember playing is 0.23, but only because I distinctly remember the asteroids being introduced with the release of 0.23.5. I wouldn't call the old versions objectively poor, because they were still damn fun, but I couldn't imagine trying to play them for a significant length of time with all the QoL improvements that have been added in over the years. It'd still be neat to see them, though.
