  1. Interlude 2: Bill has some fun To lighten up the mood, and to distract from the pressing situation, Bill built a small rover to get around on Vall It may be a little . . . unorthodox, but it sure is fun to drive around in! With a total top speed of . . 4 Meters per Second, he christens it the Wheelie-Dealy 10000 Everyone else just calls it the Tumble-Dryer
  2. Chapter 3: End of a Mission (Or is it?) A decision has been made. The KSC has drafted up plans for a rescue craft, meaning that the crew of the Jool 1 have been given the go-ahead to land on Vall. The crew quickly gets to work. Behind the icy plains of Vall, the Jool 1 prepares for possibly it's last ever flight. They take one last look at Jool from orbit, and start the deorbit burn Falling down towards Vall, the unwieldy ship proves hard to orient The landing is conducted in the early Vall morning, about 1 hour before sunrise The final landing is harrowing. Luckily, the crew makes it out alive Jeb gets out and plants the customary flag. And Vall soon joins, using the last drops of fuel in the lander to navigate over to the Jool 1. The crew of the Jool 1 settle down now, preparing the spacecraft for it's potentially years-long stay on Vall. (If you're wondering why the scenery changed, it's because I landed normally, but when I tried to load a save it bugged out every time and destroyed my excrements, possibly due to Parallax scatters. I had to cheat the ship down after loading a save from when it was in orbit, and I deduced some fuel. I hope this minor thing is OK for you guys.)
  3. Interlude 1: A Very Important Decision Deep in a classified government blacksite, 2 high-ranking individuals discuss some Very Important Matters: "The ship is not going to get there in this state. Vall was a bust" "There's still time to look. If we tell them to land on Vall and hold down until rescue, we can have them search for what we need" "Move the old Vall Orbiter into a polar orbit, it can search for the target that way. Think about the public reaction to kerbonaughts dying on Vall!" "No, we need boots on the ground searching. We cannot risk anything here." "I guess we can get them to land and search, but we musn't reveal what we need. This needs to stay away from even them." "But what if they find out?" "That is taken care of" "And how do we suppose we get them home afterwards? We can't let them stay too long out there, ionizing radiation isn't good for the body" "There was a certain research program, almost 80 years back. It was deemed too risky and in violation of international law, so it was scrapped. Times have changed, however, and it might be the only way we can get them home." "You don't mean-" "Yes. Project Orion"
  4. Chapter 2: A Bit of a Pickle A little fiddling with the RCS thrusters, some wiggling on the surface, and Valentina is upright! The crew of the Jool 1 celebrates, but a pressing matter is still here. How will Val get home? She has half the amount of delta-V needed to reach Val orbit, and the Jool 1 itself is too unwieldy and Vall to large to attempt any landing there. In the meantime, Valentina exits the lander and conducts the first footsteps on Vall, deploying the mandatory flag in the process. She even makes a quick trip to one of the nearby geysers, taking a sample for (hopefully) later use. In the meantime, the Jool 1 sits patiently in orbit, the crew debating the best plan of action Bob brings forward the idea of using spare fuel tanks and the 1 spare engine to send down enough fuel to allow Valentina to reach orbit Cerby entertains the idea of stripping down the Jool 1 and landing on Vall directly The idea of landing directly has potential, but would effectively strand them there. Due to the abundant ice they would be fine in terms of life support, as the onboard ISRU can manage splitting water for oxygen and growing plants with some onboard seeds, but that would mean spending 3-4 more years around Jool. They would be effectively stranded. However, the ship is lacking fuel, the short jaunt to Vall having spent a little more dV than expected. Whatever course of action is taken, it must be taken now.
  5. Chapter 1: The Vall-iant Expedition Bob would get right to work plotting a course to the mission's original objective, Vall. The beautiful ice moon of Jool musn't be missed, and we do not have the capability to land on Tylo or Laythe yet. This course would let them reach Vall in 6 days. They would need to get cozy around Jool, as the next Jool-Kerbin transfer window would not come for another 3 years Burning primarily on the nuclear engines to conserve fuel. Highest point of the orbit over Jool. Tylo can be spotted just over Jool's north pole. Jeb looks over Vall, 5 hours out from the capture burn Arrived at Vall Capture burn for about 1000 Dv About half our fuel remains. This may prove to be an issue in the future, but for now it's OK. There are plans in the KSC in progress to resupply the mission before the Jool transfer window Valentina transfers to the lander and undocks. She will gather some ore on the surface of Vall in addition to the customary first landing procedures. Boosting into a lower orbit for ease of landing. Sunrise as we get closer to the surface KSP2? What's that? Coming down Final descent, landing in 5, 4, 3, 2, Whoops? ooh this this is bad. Very bad
  6. This is a random mission I started to try and get back into KSP. I thought to myself, 'Might as well try to do a fun little Jool mission' (spoiler: It was not just a fun jool mission). I originally planned to send it to maybe Val, Pol, the sort. It quickly got out of hand. I don't have any screenshots from earlier in the mission, but I can cheat some crafts around and show them in the VAB to approximate an idea Currently, the mission is floating above the surface of Bop, parts strewn willy-nilly on the craft, and looking unrecognizable from how we began. Let's start from the beginning, shall we? So where does the Jool 1 go from here? Tune in later, to see where they go. For there is buckets of fuel now, and a whole host of worlds to explore. The Crew of the Jool 1 -Jeb -Valentine -Bill -Bob -Cerby (Pilot) -Donwell (Engineer, also mastermind behind the Macguyver lander) (This will be updated later)
  7. I just have to ask, where has Wernher von Kerman gone?? and who is the "Keri Kerman" replacing him??!!?!?!? Keri Kerman ---> Edit: Gene is gone too???
  8. Chapter 8: Trials and Tribulations Welp. I guess I'm the new mission documenter. I don't really know who's actually reading these, but I hope you weren't bored out of your mind by the last guy. Actually, what did happen to the last guy? Nevermind, we have stuff to do. A fishy looking guy named Gene showed up on our doorstep with a very official looking letter saying that The Central Directorate and The Chancellor himself have ordered that more manned missions shall be conducted outside of Low Kerbin Orbit. Specifically, Pol. To accomplish these lofty goals, the best college dropouts engineers of of the SSP have been ordered to stay up for roughly a week, using extreme amounts of caffeine to devise the Horizons 5 spacecraft: Jedediah, the only Kerbal as of yet to ever fly into space has been elected to go on this mission. It only took a little bit of knockout gas to get him into the rocket. The twin SRB's are a new design, meant to stretch the limits of what the base New Horizons rocket is able to do. The capsule and spacecraft are basically just the Horizons 4 spacecraft but with an added fuel tank in the middle. Wait, something went wrong with the SRB separation. It appears attaching them from the bottom leads to, well, issues. Perhaps also, getting Jeb to fly the rocket while still under the effects of ether might have not been the best idea. He manages to abort safely, much to the chagrin of mission control, where cries of "JEEEEB!!" can be heard. When we recovered him, he kind of just flopped out of the capsule. As far as our resident medical expert can say, "Welp. He's probably not awake. I don't know what you're asking me about this for, I just clean the toilets around here" ________________________________________________________________ However, the show must go on. Gene has still been hanging around the offices asking about the status of a Pol mission, and he has a few very serious looking government guys behind him to back up his claim. Valentina has been chosen to lead this mission, as Jeb is still recovering. It'll be a Pol flyby mission/Extended duration flight mission. This time, as shown by this amazing graphic, we have shifted the boosters downwards, which should fix the issue of the rocket exploding horribly and failing the mission. The rocket is the same as last time otherwise Everyone in mission control is praying that the boosters separate cleanly, save Anthony. We don't like Anthony. Luckily enough, we get a clean separation. Everything is norminal. Or is it nominal? And another stage separation. This stage is low-thrust enough that we'll just burn all of the way to orbit And the third stage, to finish up The shroud is jettisoned, thus marking the third ever manned orbital flight. Valentine begins the Trans-Pol injection burn, right at orbital sunset. Lots of oooh's and aah's from observers. On the, actually only 3-hour or 1/2 day trip towards Pol, catching a glimpse of Tylo on the way. Sometime, we will return to Tylo, and next time with Kerbals. Valentina reaches the actual flyby, but unfortunately for everyone waiting for pretty photos of the surface, we don't get close enough to make any features out. To make things even worse, we go by on the dark side, completely obscuring our view While leaving Pol, Val catches a shot of the dark side of Pol. Frankly, too dark for me. Valentine makes an orbital correction burn to bring her Periapsis above the atmosphere. She is going to stay in orbit for 4 more days, much to her incessant groaning about "no leg room" and "the only food to eat is chicken salad." Frankly, I love chicken salad, so I see no issues. She waves one last goodbye to Pol and Tylo, as mission control reminds her that they can't wave back, as they aren't sentient beings. She has to de-orbit as she has run out of food, and The Central Directorate demands she be brought back with minimal starvation. I guess they don't realize that malnutrition builds character, but whatever Fuel and power separation A bit toasty on reentry; one of the engineers remarked that the reentry plasma would be great to grill on As the navigation computer broke, she ends up landing in the middle of the Kimilayan mountain range. I hope she brought the bear gun. She manages to get out of the capsule, therefore proving herself better than Jebediah, and becomes the first Kerbal to reach Pol and return -----END REPORT-----
  9. Gonna have to remove the kerbin-tylo barycenter to just have tylo orbit kerbin as the barycenter causes too many issues that I don't know how to fix
  10. Chapter 7: Business as Usual Did . . . Something just happen? It feels like a year just passed, yet it also feels like nothing at all. Everyone is in their normal places and nothing seems off, yet I have a sinking feeling that I just missed something important. Yet, regardless, the show must go on. There are still rockets to launch, moons to orbit, and with that, we come to the Horizons 4: Built with the most powerful Horizons rocket to date, it even has an orbital maneuvering module for advanced rendezvous capabilities. That, in fact, is it's mission. To Rendezvous with another spacecraft in orbit and, well, kinda just say hi. We haven't really figured out how to dock yet. We begin with a launch in the early morning, which on Kerbin is actually still hours away from sunrise And we lift off, the 4 boosters burning bright A clean booster separation And MECO achieved The second stage ignites as we witness an orbital sunrise As the automatic maneuver system was glitching, jeb had to manually get himself into orbit Second stage cutoff Capsule detachment as the solar panels cannot generate power from inside the fairing And a great view of Tylo in the background Now Pol and Tylo, both Kerbin's celestial companions. Alas, we have to end the mission early after 18 days in orbit as we have run out of provisions early (I was messing around with configuring Snacks! as the longer day of Kerbin in the mod messes with it I think) Deorbited Re-entering And Landed. ------End of the Horizons 4 Mission------ All in all, a successful mission. SCIENCE! was gained, although we didn't get to attempt a rendezvous. However, we did get to test the limits of the endurance of the Horizons spacecraft and our astronauts. That'll be Jeff Kerman, signing off- The space program will be properly reformed under the new government of United East Kerbonia's new administration. The Chancellor will be pleased. _______________________________________________________________ Author's Note: Snacks! has some issues with the modified (longer) day meaning a kerbal could survive for 30 times longer than intended as the day is 30 normal days long. I think I have solved this but we will see.
  11. I found the original save file so this will be returning. The mods will be changing as I forget which ones I used. will scrap kerbalism though new mods:
  12. Kind of just a regular career mode but in strange situations, and generally just exploring the new wacky solar system. Maybe adding a mod like simpleconstruction or pathfinder for base building to spice it up.
  13. New Mission Report https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/210429-another-way-of-doing-things-2-electric-boogaloo/
  14. It's Back! The mission report that no one cared about is back! Same as the last one, it is using my own KerBinary mod, as well as my own homemade frankensteined visual mod. The general stuff is the same, with it being mostly stock + Restockplus and Restock, and with a 2X rescale, because it just feels better. Other mission report: Mod (if, for some reason, you want to use it): The science is not balanced yet but I will get around to balancing it sometime, for now science is just on 50% and I'll be limiting myself to what feels right To get right into it . . . _________________________________________________________________________________________________ In the wise words of some philosopher, everyone starts somewhere. The Kerbals are no exception. For years they have looked up at the sky, and wondered, "Are there Snacks up there?" Today, they find out. At last, the KSP's first rocket was built. It was originally going to be unmanned, but thanks to Jeb's complaining, a small capsule was created just for it. Presenting, the Hopper 1! 3.. 2.. 1.. IGNITION! After the fuel burns out, we reach maximum height at around the pitiful height of 20 km. Jeb is able to buzz some airplanes on the way down. Coming in over the space center. R&D better hold their coffee. And landed! Jeb's hunger for speed, height, and danger, has not been entirely satisfied by this rocket, though. this must be rectified, as well as the collection of more SCIENCE! And so ends the flight of the Hopper 1. A decent flight, it ended in Jeb going almost 1/4 the way out of the atmosphere, but we will certainly go farther on the next launch. I also unlocked some SCIENCE! which I used to get the first 2 techs. The decoupler and the larger boosters would be imperative in the second launch, the Hopper 2! Due to launching restrictions though, we couldn't have made it larger, or else Jeb might have blacked out from the Gees It's a big upgrade from the Hopper 1, with a larger booster, fins, and a decoupler for the capsule so the parachute can be more effective. 3.. 2.. 1.. IGNITION! Strangely enough, the rocket started heating up on launch, and streaks of air began glowing around the rocket. this was later discovered to be a phenomenon called Compression Heating which might need to be factored into future launches, especially on atmospheric entry. Even after engine burnout, the rocket was able to make it to space! Jeb's appetite for danger has probably been satisfied, and we get all of that sweet, sweet SCIENCE! Pretty from up here, isn't it. Decoupling the capsule. Unfortunately though, we later received news that the booster survived the trip, just to crash into Bill's hotdog stand just outside of the space center. This had the side effect of making Bill jobless, which meant we could kidnap recruit him into the space program. No major reentry heating, actually, and the parachute deployed just fine. Perhaps due to the angle, or low speed? Landing in a beautiful meadow. Parallax really is something. In the end, 2 wildly successful missions, with lots of SCIENCE! gained, funds gathered, and we are now ready to go for orbit. Unfortunately, that would require bigger boosters, so Gene will have to put his solar-system conquering ambitions on hold for now. Final tech tree Upgraded astronaut complex, to house all the new captives recruits!
