in the videos when the kerbal lets go of the ladder he just floats there making it easy to jet backwards to the science jr. But when i let go and activate rcs the kerbal gets a kick about two axes and in trying to recover from that I lose the ship. What am I doing wrong?

just tried again and this time I earned zero science

So when I run science jr while in orbit it says I have 25 points for that experiment. But when I recover the vessel I only receive 8 points

I tried to reproduce the conditions as shown on the videos OK. Caps lock was off. I had better results yesterday by turning off SAS after pitching to 80 degrees and following the prograde vector.

I've been having terrific trouble getting to orbit. The problem is when I tap the D key the rocket is very slow to pitch over (SAS enabled). I'm flying copies of ships from youtube (Scott Manley, Mike Aben, QUill 18) and unlike the ships in those videos, my rockets just won't pitch over. By the time I reach 10 km I'm only pitched by about 10 degrees. I'm stumped. I know these rockets are orbit-capable, so it must be something I'm doing but I can't figure out what that might be.

I take it you mean that steam will handle it automatically

I checked the integrity of my game files and was told that "118 files failed to validate and will be reacquired" what do I do to correct this?

I have a ghost ship orbiting in my map view It's in a perfect orbit, something I haven;t achieved yet. It has the same name as the ship I'm trying to get into orbit and it dhows the ship as landed. I have no idea how to get rid of it,

By profile name do you mean the name assigned to the game? If I understand you, each time I want to go to sandbox mode I need the change the name of my career mode. Is this correct?

I'm playing career mode/ I went into sandbox to test a design, but when I tries to load my saved career mode game, I stay stuck in sandbox where I still am.

i"m getting he hang of setting up a close encounter. Two things though - once I do get within 5 km of stranded the tutorial doesn't give me a "next" button; and when I go to map view to see the target there's nothing there. No target ship in sight. One more thing. How do you reduce the speed relative to target? It takes all my fuel to do a retrograde burn and even then I'm still too fast.

My problem, is with getting the two shield icons to converge. They merrily chase each other around their orbits, sometimes getting nearer other times jumping to opposite hemispheres. The few times I achieved a close encounter (within 5 km), I have no idea what I did right Suggestions, tips. ideas anyone?

well, after a couple of hours I'm still not getting anywhere. I think part of my confusion comes from where you state as your craft moves along the gold line. But my craft shows no signs of movement. I can time warp out to the escape point but that does nothing. alos, sometimes I don't get a gold line, but a purple line. What does that mean. I appreciate your patience, Scarecrow. I so dope to see and hear your video though. So far, your comments have been the most helpful I've received on this problem. Great video Scarecrow. It clarified things a great deal. Thank you.

Actually, thanks to your clear explanation I was able to make a successful transfer/reentry today. I haven't duplicated the feat yet, though. I would still love to see a video though if you get your gear working.
