The Saturn V is to heavy to use with the mechjeb TRANS function... to get it to Minmus is a long, hard process! Also, it\'s so heavy, I don\'t think it would accelerate much before crashing into Minmus, even if I got it there.
Same ship landed on the moon ??? LOL 8) I\'m amazed it landed, THANK YOU MECHJEB!!! It\'s wobbling slowly, but it\'s stayed upright through a time warp.
Mass to orbit = 246.4 tons. Mods used: mechjeb, NovaPunch 1.2 beta. Staging: it drops some solids on the way up. MechJeb compatibility: sometimes the rocket starts spiraling out of control on the way up, so you have to disengage then re-engage the ascent autopilot to get it back under control again. (See attached images and craft file).
Here\'s a mechjeb-less one for the mechjebally challenged. Note that this is using the NovaPunch 1.2 beta package. Actually I was running some tests, comparing to other engines and fuel tanks... the Thor/Odin parts are similar, just in a smaller package.
How small can you get to the Mun and back? This one is pretty small, but not stock -- it\'s using some Thor and Odin parts. Actually it has me wondering if the Thor/Odin parts are too powerful. This little thing can go to the Mun, return to KSC with a powered landing, then take off again and make a 100km orbit! Hmmmm...
Here\'s a challenge: land a Saturn V on the moon. I don\'t mean, land one part of it... land the whole thing! I tried for a while, but couldn\'t do it... I could almost get a Saturn V in orbit, but engines would overheat and things would stop working and it would always tumble out of control. See attached pic of the 'Saturn V Lifter'.
