I do control my throttle (ie. launching at <50-20% throttle, depending on the weight of payload, and gradually reducing throttle as tanks go empty to compensate) before, thinking that I would save fuel on the way to orbit. I've tried doing it on the later versions and it didn't work the way I've expected it, so I'm sticking to full throttle at liftoff no matter what the weight of payload is (but not if using mainsails as booster cores). Take for example. Watch how I meticulously control the throttle on the way to orbit. I've rebuilt the same thing back in 0.18, and flew it like how I flew it before. I didn't even made it outside the atmosphere. I've tried the full throttle liftoff, and it worked well.

Here's mine. My workhorse for medium - near heavy payloads (resuppy vehicle launch). 25 engines at first stage (5 each core, 22x LV-T30, 3x LV-T45), asparagus config. second stage depends on the payload. and it looks like a real rocket. This one is for much heavier payloads, with larger first stage (stretched + more engines) but works identically the same as the one above. 4 strap-on asparagus, 7 engines each (6x LV-T30 and 1x LV-T45, and 7x LV-T30, 35 engines on the first stage). second stage depends on the payload. and still it looks like a real rocket.
