Aesthetics, but also with the intended function in mind. Can't stand pancake launchers and flat tops. I always go beyond limits just to avoid them (drain fuel, nosecones, etc). yup, this Otherwise people would play and buy the game only for explosions and wacky stuff, and not for the science and exploration.

I'm already finding a hard time making an ssto spaceplane fly into orbit and then there's these people who can make something that doesn't even look like an ssto fly into orbit on a single stage.
