i wish the muncastle was actually somewhere on the mun, much much harder to spot than munarches or munoliths. Like you'd have to know where it is and still then after landing on the mun search around a bit until you find the object that's only 0.3 kerbals high

hmm i've designed a few 3man landers already, they went both to minmus and mun and returned safely. here's one of them in the editor: And when it finally touched down it was mostly empty, but enough to get the craft home since it didnt weight a whole lot anymore: Here's a bit lighter pod with the radial tanks being jettisoned on mun/minmus escape: often i'd just burn until kerbal's periapsis is about 20 and then i detach the pod to coast back to kerbal

How do you think this canyon was formed?
MissStabby replied to Rainbow Dash's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The canyon was carved by little green men from outerspace... oh wait... -
Step 1, get in orbit of minmus, lets say a 50x50km Step 2, at the backside of minmus burn until you are in collision course with kerbal Step 3, decouple a commandpod+chute Step 4, land at KSP HQ Timing and trajectory will be important, and its probably easier to predict when entering the kerbol atmosphere at a perpendicular angle. The closer the better, Bonus points for hitting the hidden KSP

On one of my more recent trips to minmus i was very low on fuel, so after i orbited minmus i burned a prograde transfering orbit to get to kerbal. Since i was very low on fuel i burned until the periapsis was just about 50km to have atmospheric braking take care of the rest. Though when i went around kerbal with enough speed to leave kerbal again the orbit prediction showed i would enter the SOI of the moon, very closely. My thought was, if i dont burn it will just ignore it and ill come back to kerbal for my 2nd atmospheric breaking pass. but after i exited the mun SOI i was sent straight towards minmus, also with another SOI change in the orbit prediction. Though this orbit was so low that the angle of the orbit changed dramatically. after i passed by minmus at just a 10km height my craft was suddenly launched outwards at a trajectory around the sun... Could this be a gravitational slingshot? My guess is these kinds of manouvres can be used to facilitate interplanetary travel First thing that came to mind after this happening though was F9 since i wanted the kerbals to land back on kerbal so i forgot to take screenshots of the whole surprising ordeal. Though a interesting thing is, once i finetuned my orbit to kerbal i jetisonned 4 radial mounted RCS fueltanks, but they didn't got picked up with the slingshot, is it that only active/driven spaceships can get past SOI changes?

isnt that the mun arch?

Kerbal Space Program For Steam Greenlight?
MissStabby replied to GamerGuy09's topic in KSP1 Discussion
No problem here since i have it running anyways 24/7 Though i think KSP is still in a phase where you would not want to attract too many steam users. Currently with every version the game changes dramatically, so on the steamforums you just get whiners that complain about their mods not working anymore. Also going on steam will attract a very large crowd, this might be a fine thing when the game is finished and out of beta. But atm many "casual" gamers could then go out and buy the game on steam without any efford, after that they realise the game is too hard just start flooding the forums with KSP 101 questions. Though hard games should not be "excluded" from steam, take a look at games like ArmA(DayZ) or a more similar game to KSP, "Lunar Flight". (though lunar flight is mostly about just landing a lander instead of building a rocket) I think KSP hould move to steam, "eventually". Probably when the game is out of alpha/beta and when the game will have a mission structure and obvious goals. Currently KSP is just an gigantic sandbox toy, and a damn fun one! -
Heres a picture of the camera! now lets have KSP with 256x256 BW cameras to show us pictures of our lander's shadow with minutes of delays before seeing them!

After going to minmus, landing there and taking off again i flew back to kerbal, though when returning i got the crazy idea to just land with the little fuel i had left instead of just jettisoning the command module. The landing went fine, but then it tipped over...
-
i still remember those other legs, touching down with anything above 2m/s turning into a springboard launching my craft into a backflip or even into orbit...
-
Also what about the window of opportunity to actually launch a rocket to Murs? i know that when NASA sends their rovers to mars they can only do this once every few years because doing it at any other moment would increase the required fuel costs dramatically. Would it be possible to pick a launch date and have the universe warp forward until the planets are properly aligned??

*facepalm*

Recently i wanted to land on minmus, but i didnt have the patience to adjust my trajectory so i would land on one of minmus's icelakes. Eventually when i was touching down i was landing on a slope with a gradient of about 30 to 40 degrees with quite a long rocket. Though once the RCS thrusters got rid of the rotational speed from the rocket tipping over to the side it managed to keep upright and not tip over. in 0.15 i remember rockets just sliding away with anything that wasnt completely flat. Well done, it's awesome!

funny that you mentioned that, i put up a request for help a week or two back. I am capable of modelling any parts needed for a orion drive, though the programming/setting/ballancing/exporting is something i have no knowledge of
-
hmm for my tests i just ignited the engines and used the EVA controls to just walk up to the thrusters
-
i just tried to see at what temperatures kerbals would not survive anymore, Though when testing i could not actually 'fry' a kerbal. Also i discovered that the kerbals are subject to the thrust force that is exhausted from the rocketengine. Kerbals are being launched at tremendous speeds when walking into a jet that is aimed horisontally or upwards. This could make for a nice EVA to orbit 'canon'

[0.14] Instant Orbit / Debris Generator with bonus Asteroid
MissStabby replied to JellyCubes's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
if the asteroid becomes landable.... we just have to set it on a collision course with kerbin and try to save the planet by creating a giant ship that can place a asteroid mounted thruster! 8)
