  1. Nice work. Methinks we need 5m parts now
  2. If it was a fake, then it was the most elaborate and expensive fake ever done. It would have been easier to just go to the Moon.
  3. It really needs to be done as a rendezvous. So you need to do a plane change, and match everything else. Then go higher or lower to meet up. Then try your intercept. Good luck. It's worth getting too. The exceptionally low gravity is very interesting. Doing an EVA to the surface it quite easy and preffered due to the current bugs.
  4. Some threads around here on nuclear energy and Malthusian doomers reminded me of this... Energy from Thorium! So sad that nuclear energy from uranium was chosen because you could use it produce plutonium for bombs.
  5. This is nothing new... That's not to say it won't happen. It's just that new technology comes along and solves the problem. You may have noticed a renaissance of fossil fuel energy in the form of shale gas. All thanks to... you guessed it, new technology in the form of hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling.
  6. Conics Foo The fact that i am on a collision course with Laythe seems to be missed.
  7. Nuclear energy is contentious and complex, both from a technical and people (human nature) perspective. It's unfortunate that people eagerly fit themselves into the Pro or Anti camps. Fissile material is hard enough to keep contained in dedicated containment vessels on the ground. A couple of major incidents provide evidence of this. So it's not something you want on a rocket, since rockets have a tendency to go wrong. There is ample evidence of that. Only a few days ago SpaceX had a minor incident. Besides, as others have pointed out, high Isp NERVAs are not needed for missions to Mars. What is needed is MONEY.
  8. Kerbin radius = 600 km Earth (mean) radius = 6371 km So would that make a Kerbal meter 10.62 SI meters? That would mean Kerbals are over 10 meters tall.
  9. Most important thing for me is that it actually does what you built it to do. Other than that, being pleasant to fly is important. Reasonable efficiency as well as not blowing up are as well.
  10. Normally eager to do such a challenge. However the requirements are odd, and considering it's an engineering challenge, i would allow MechJeb to deal with lag and level the playing field. Getting a big craft into orbit and doing some simple navigation task I would think is a better measure of a high delta-V interplanetary vehicle. In fact I had posted such a challenge not long ago. Sadly no takers, but good news is i'm reigning champ
  11. Nerdy rocket science gaming community meets internet community. Things are getting interesting. And oh yeah - it's funny. I'd say it could do without the profanity but then it wouldn't be the same thing i think.
  12. As the community grows, you can expect more, not less mods. Popular mods will be picked up by others if the original devs discontinue work on it. There will probably be even better support for modding in the future as well. It's intended to be moddable so as to customise the game experience to your taste. I expect some automation. There is a planned feature to allow the crew control the craft.
  13. Waterfront, next to KSC. So views and a nice short commute to work
  14. (so ok, I stole that the last two)
  15. I'm thinking your video card would like to know the answer as well. It will need all the help it can get.
  16. Isn't the proper name Lithium Deuteride, not Dilithium Crystal. edit: also it's just LiD, not Li2D.
  17. That cart is more fun witha crewtank IMO. eg.
  18. 2264.5 tons at launch. All asparagus staging? So.. would you be the first player to do this?
  19. In 0.16 there was a lot of nerfing of parts as part of the introduction of bigger parts. However due to a fuel bug, some of that was masked. But with that fixed, it is just harder now in 0.17. So basically you just need more (well, regained) delta-V, which means a better full:dry ratio, which typically means a bigger craft.
  20. 30 m/s is too fast. Single digits at least. I aim for sub 1 m/s
  21. See http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/showthread.php/22023-Oh-my-Moho!
  22. Could I trouble the OP for different colored overlays to indicate a successful return to Kerbin surface?
  23. Doesn't work in what way? Not enough fuel for orbit? Or something else, like it cannot be controlled.
  24. My luck in general has been good. As for visiting planets, I have been getting around. I have enjoyed the learning curve but it is hard work, sometimes frustrating. For example each launch window to Duna is a little different due to the eccentricity.
