  1. A better thing for you to do would be to get your hands on photoshop or gimp. They will have layer blending features to use files with black instead of transparency. The vast majority of useful pictures you find online will require that you use a blending feature like screen or linear dodge to use them.
  2. Not taking jet fuel is a penalty, until you refuel in orbit, then it's added efficiency. I mostly didn't take it to keep down size, the one thing I won't clip is fuel tanks. I really wish they would add some stock small jet fuel tanks. A small ssto only needs like 60 fuel before you hit the rockets, the mk-1 holds 150. That or oxidizer tanks...but they might add that, it's one of the few things in kspx that hasn't been made stock.

  4. Since .21 I think you have been able to start with most of the parts. I just do it because I use sub assembly manager, http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/subassembly-manager/ it makes things easier to work with when the pod isn't the 1st part. I should put a probe body in there though, just so it could fly itself.

  7. If you could just make the cloud texture stay still ie. not rotate with the planet, it would give the illusion of moving clouds. No idea if that is easier or not though.

You have to do some work renaming and compressing the files to tga or png.   9. Thank you. I knew this was true, i just couldn't prove it. 4k files get really nasty huge in photoshop with layers and stuff, at least for my computer. Now I can justify not even trying.
  10. You can make something for yourself, but you shouldn't distribute anything that uses the stock planet texture. Anything you distribute texture wise should be original work or derived from public images like NASA or other scientific and government images.
  11. Is there any advantage to saving as a dds. I've never tried doing it but there are plugins for photoshop available?

  13. I'm using kethane, no problems. Are you sure you installed the textures correctly? If they are in the wrong folder this would happen. Edit: Sorry, i don't know, haven't tried the newest version of kethane.
  14. I use photoshop. But anything where you can pick different layering options would work. I usually use "screen" which makes everything black disappear leaving your clouds on top of the planet.
  15. Dreamscape Skybox Pack 2.0 This pack requires Tingle's wonderful Universe Replacer plugin found here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/44135-0-21-x-Universe-Replacer. I tried to make the galaxy more overwhelming, glittering, and with a sort splatter paint effect like old space art. Anyway, you can get the texture files here: http://d.pr/f/RLsO They are 2k textures, I haven't experienced any slowdown on my modest laptop. Let me know what you think, suggestions, comments. Keep in mind i'm trying to keep a niche where it isn't too realistic. To install, place the files in ksp_win/gamedata/universereplacer/textures/skybox.
  16. Well, i don't know anything about texturing really. I just know it's probably a good source file for a texture. I think you basically have to put it over the kerbin ground texture and photoshop it into one file. Like this?
  17. take a look at this http://www.blenderguru.com/videos/create-a-realistic-earth/. It has a set of textures in high res taken from NASA sources. Also, just try doing a google image search for "cloud sphere map" and set image size to larger than 2 or 4 megapixel or whatever you are looking for.

  19. I wonder how hard it would be to do a bart simpson. The head shape is close. I just want to edit the suit color. Orange suits for all. Maybe add a fancy headsock type thing like they have.

  21. I figure this wouldn't be a bad place to post some resources and tips. So you want to make a skybox. You need 3 things: The mod, a spheremap texture, and cubethesphere. 1. The mod, it's up there, above my post. 2. A spheremap. http://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/vis/a000000/a003800/a003895/index.html The 6th image down is an example of a sphere map you want to use. It's plenty large enough. You will know that it is a sphere map because details on the top and bottom will be stretched out horizontally. All sorts of spheremaps from dozens of games and science sources are available online, google image search is your friend. Make sure you limit your results to large images. 3. Cubethesphere. http://home.comcast.net/~darendash/CubeTheSphere.html This program will convert spheremaps to cube maps. It will give you 6 pictures labeled top, bottom, front, left, etc. You need to rename these. Top = Skybox_PositiveY Bottom = Skybox_NegativeY (Then Rotate 180!) Rotate the bottom map 180 degrees or it won't match. Front = Skybox_PositiveZ Back = Skybox_NegativeZ Right = Skybox_PositiveX Left = Skybox_NegativeX You should also put them in jpeg format, jpeg quality 10 should be good. (Edit: Bac9 says tga files.) If you used a picture like the one I posted (galactic core at center, oriented on galactic plane) you can also compare your pics to those in rareden's pack. The stars should line up the same. Good way to double check.
