I forgot about manual throttle. The bug applies the throttle twice to the consumption rate, so half throttle uses a quarter of the fuel and 10% throttle uses 1%.
That throws MechJeb out the window too, it made me think my rockets were better than they really are, it uses less than full thrust as much as it can for ascent.
I'm not sure if it works in KSP, but the Oberth Maneuver around Kerbin would still be useful to maximize the delta-v of an interplanetary burn. How about LKO -> Mun -> Minmus -> Kerbol -> Kerbin -> Deep Space?
Parachutes can stop a plane pretty quick, maybe a carrier style land would be the way to go. Just fly low over the carrier at about 100m/s or so, release the parachute and drop onto the deck. Sounds like a job for MechJeb.
I'm just hoping I can raise my Kerbol apoapsis and drift for a fews hundred years until one of the planets catches me in its SoI. So it probably won't be me.
The atmo engines are bug free. I'm struggling to get past two thirds of the way around using 8 LFTs as drop tanks, so jet fuel tanks would be near impossible without using the old Mk 3 with 1000 fuel.
I managed three quarters of the way around with this one, it uses 6 LFTs for the drop tanks, but it's not quite fast enough. It just takes soooo long to test it without warp. There is a plugin for fixing the fuel consumption bug.
