I think it's pretty cool

Yes the kerbonaut becomes a meteor but because of Minmus having such a low gravitational pull, you can use your pack to land! Fun fact: Even though Minmus has a very low gravitational pull, in real life it would have to be made of solid uranium to have that pull!

Nice orbit and video! I just landed on Minmus for the first time with only Bill and his EVA jet-pack, no landing pod (much easier than you think). My advice: try to use srbs to your advantage, don't use sas only asas and only 1, orbit a LOT to get used to changing your orbit, always go to 90 degrees for an easy orbit, and if you have Bill, Jeb, and Bob... Don't let them die. Keep them for as long as possible. End the mission if things go sour. Good luck, and when/if you get the full game, it's worth it! EVAs are a ton of fun.

So, the "in" thing to do is go land on Minmus. No problem right? Well not quite... You see, all my missions go just like this: "Lets see if THIS rocket design works!" "It doesn't spontaneously combust, Lets orbit!" "Time to make 'dat orbit perfect" "You know what? This is an experimental rocket, and I've never been NEAR Minmus, let alone orbit it... Let's Orbit it with this rocket that may or may not work!" and history was made... Kind of! You see I DID make a perfect (within a few hundred meters) orbit around Minmus and "Landed" too. But I didn't. You see after I made the perfect orbit, I knew i wanted to keep it like that. So what I did was take Bill on a mission to land. Because of its 3-man pod, I could still control it without him. So out went bill after I made a 45,000 to 45,000 orbit to a 45,000 to 7,000 orbit. He jumped out, shoved on his jet-pack, and descended into the most unknown territory for me. Minmus. Everything went well and i was very close to landing. just as I landed I spammed the F1 button to make sure i got a picture. Turns out I took so many I could probably make a movie with them. Anyways I landed and explored the terrain. After exploring I decided to test out the gravity with my jet-pack. It was the most fun Bill has ever had! After a few "minmutes" (get it like minmus minutes?) I decided I wanted to send a rescue pod for him. Unfortunately Bill decided to land in the worst possible spot; on top of a mountain extremely far away from any lakes for the pod to land in. So, I had to move. Far. And after a long time I got very greedy with my speed. Then, POOF! Bill was dead. Kind of? Yes! You see, the reason why the thread is called "Minmus, kind of?" is because I never used my regular save to land on Minmus! So actually, I landed on Minmus on a copied save of my regular file. So on my regular file Bill is still there, and the orbit is still perfect... It's like nothing even happened... So there you go, I hope I entertained you and I finally let out all the excitement of landing through this thread. Hi! Welcome to the forums, if you need help getting into orbit I have a few tips: -Try to use solid fuel rockets as boosters to get you going and always expel them and other burnt up rocket stages ASAP -I find that having multiple engines works better than one engine (tri-couplers as an example) rocket designs. It\'s possible to get a single engine to go to the moon, but you need lots of fuel which in turn slows down your already slow spacecraft and also makes it top heavy and wobbly. -Start small! The first thing I did was create a rocket that moved. Then a rocket that went up. Then punched into the next layer of atmosphere. Then into space. Then into orbit. Then to the Mun. I haven\'t made my Mun craft return (nor will I) because EVAS on the moon are so fun! -Get good at orbits. Specifically making them change, and try to get a perfect orbit if you can. -For going to the Mun I suggest that you practice landing on Kerban first. -The more tries, the more success! Try more! The more rockets you try and get into orbit, the more you will learn about what works and what doesn\'t. -Use struts! You see your rocket wobbling a lot? Then use struts! They look cool and only help! -Ladders, pretty self explanatory but you would be surprised at how many people forget them . -Learn the helpful keys such as: R for RCS and jetpack while on EVA, L for light while on EVA, Caps Lock for finer controls, T to toggle ASAS/SAS, [ and] to exchange between different objects (mainly used for EVAS with multiple Kerbans), and the all helpful X key to quickly shut down your engines (useful for orbital adjustments and landing). -Screen shots! Though this doesn\'t help at all by pressing F2 to get rid of HUD and F1 to snap a pic, you can share the most precious memories to people across the globe. Not to mention yourself! -And finally don\'t use ANY mods without backing up your save and playing the vanilla game for a few days to get used to the parts! Good luck and now some quick pictures to end my tips! My first (and only as of 8/1/2012) Muner rocket: Notices the layers? That\'s very good for a rocket design! Perhaps try and get a perfect orbit around the moon and land for your first time? Overkill maybe but it\'s possible, just ask my first Mun rocket the Delta XV! Make sure to get Jebediah as your first man on the moon! That\'s what I did and trust me, his enthusiasm makes it so much easier! ;P Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you\'ll land among the stars! And finally a good luck picture. May the best of luck to you. And to your Kerbans? Well, they ARE disposable right?

Wow! Amazing! Even if the fuel was modified that was still extremely impressive! I can\'t even get orbits on the same plane, and you can do all that? Congrats on the video, I will subscribe and I hope to see more!

Hi! You might have seen me around the forums as a newbie. But today, I earn my stripes as a fully fledged kerbonaut! Today, I landed on the moon with my Delta XV rocket. It was a large amount of quicksaves, but I did it! And, what was most important to me was the fact that I did it with my own rocket design! (Pictures below) It was an interesting journey, as I didn\'t plan on going to the Mun at all (though I did plan on testing the aircraft to possibly land on the moon on a later date)! It was a sunny day. I decided to launch my new design of the Delta XV rocket, an improvement over my current only orbiting rocket, the Delta XIII rocket. As a brand new rocket, I wasn\'t sure if it was going to work at all. So as i lifted off, I noticed my pilot was usually happy. I looked at the nametag, and there it was: Jebediah Kerman. So as I went into a terrible orbit, I decided to try modifying my orbit. You have to understand that this was all new to me and getting a perfect orbit was unheard of. So sure enough, after burning at the periapsis, the apoapsis went into the Mun\'s orbit pattern. After a few adjustments, I was on a course for a flyby with THE MUN! I was ecstatic! This was the first time I have ever seen this yellow line! I quickly burned at the apoapsis. Then I realized that the burn only made the flyby worse. Then I burned in the periapsis and connected it. BAM my first orbit with the Mun! Then, as a challenge, I decided, 'Hey lets make this a perfect orbit!'. So I did. After making my perfect orbit, it was time to try it. I burned and went into a crash course with the Muner surface. After numerous attempts (quicksave), it was time to give up. After all it WAS 4 AM. I waited until today and tried it. I took less than 5 tries and then it happened. Touchdown. Amazement. Success. Though I have fuel to get back, why go back when your on the Mun? The Delta XV rocket: My touchdown (too excited to press F2 ;D) My lander, take note of how skinny (and HARD to land) the craft is: Who else? Uh-Oh... I think I left the sprinklers on! And now, the moment where it all happened! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MvyfYNCFoQ&feature=plcp

Currently have a quicksave up with me heading for the light side of the moon. I have made it like 3 times, I just couldn\'t keep it steady. I will hi it though....
-
Thank you for the tip! Now I have a imgur. And about the landing, I couldn\'t see where the ground was. I actually managed to pop in a quicksave before I tried to land. I just had to move the file, so eventually I\'ll have Jeb on the moon!

Well as a new member of the ksp community, I recently started watching videos. The hip thing to do was to land on the moon, so I thought 'Hey why not try to land on the DARK SIDE at 3 AM! ???'. Clearly it was the wrong choice. I just could not see anything on the dark side and crashed. VIOLENTLY. BUT I wasn\'t completely stupid and did snap a few pics! =P It\'s kind of funny because the first time I get a moon orbit is with Jeb! UPDATE: As it turns out I managed to make my quicksave work, so now I\'ll be able to keep trying at it. I will post pictures when I manage to land. (It wont be tonight though, I\'m pooped!) Hi Jeb! Shooting for it! The orbital map (Within a few meters):

Hey! I\'m brand new to the forums, and the game itself. I thought I might as well say that I haven\'t bought the game yet but I already love it! I was wondering if the fps increases if you buy it? Or maybe there is a way to speed it up? Anyways I have some screenshots from my first orbit! These are pictures of the Foxtrot 1.0! I decided not to count the versions untill they got, well, usable. I found a Small spacecraft online made to orbit the 'Earth'.
