The mods only "activate" after restarting the game. This means that you cant install and unisntall mods whilst the game is running.

Kerbal Space Program is a 32 bit process meaning it can only hold up to 8 gigabytes I think. What mods do you have? And how many save files? Deleting some old saves, crash reports, moving screenshots out of the KSP folder, old backups, and using the reduced textures included in a lot of mods can help save space.

HIAD stands for 'Hypersonic Inflatable Aerodynamic Decelerators' that just means inflatable heatshield basically. They are still really cool though!
