So basically, because somebody I don't know or care about got fired (possibly for completely legitimate reasons) I'm not able to use my favourite subreddit any more. Great. I understand default subreddits like /r/aww and /r/funny blacking out, but why /r/kerbalpaceprogram? This stupid "internet drama" has NOTHING to do with the KSP subreddit.

Unfortunately not right away. I've got a dissertation to finish which will no doubt take up all of next week, and it would be extremely dangerous to download a shiny new KSP version

Official Beta Bugs Nostalgia Reminiscences
sporkafife replied to NeoMorph's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Remember that one version where fuel use was bugged? Instead of the throttle/fuel use relationship being linear, it was quadratic, so half throttle only uses 1/4 of the fuel, quarter throttle used 1/16 of the fuel, and it made getting anywhere extremely easy with extremely low throttle (and essentially infinite fuel) and a boatload of patience -
Mods I use: - Kethane - Kerbal Alarm Clock - Procedural Fairings - Distant Object Enhancement - Navyfish Docking UI - Environmental Visual Enhancements - Kerbal Engineer Occasionally, when I'm playing KSP clicking on the UI just... stops working. Sometimes it happens straight from the Space Centre when I load up a save. Clicking on any of the buildings does nothing, clicking on the exit button brings up the menu, but then clicking on any of the buttons in the menu just does nothing. I can still move the camera around, but clicking on things just doesn't work. Occasionally it happens when I'm piloting a spacecraft. After an hour our so, I'll notice that I can't switch spacecraft. I still have full control of the current spacecraft, but clicking on other ships on the map view doesn't do anything, doesn't do anything. And once again, all of the buttons on the menu just don't do anything. Even if I crash the spacecraft, the buttons to return to the space centre just don't work for some reason, and the only cure is to quit the game using OS keyboard commands. I'm sorry I can't give more information on exactly when these weird crashes occur, because there isn't just one particular scenario that causes it, it seems completely random when it will strike!

Do you think Sandbox Mode can still be rewarding?
sporkafife replied to Draconiator's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've unlocked the whole science tree, upgraded all the buildings and visited plenty of planets in my career mode save, so for the past few weeks I've been playing exclusively in sandbox mode! Seeing as improved aerodynamics are coming I've installed FAR for the first time, and am just just building and flying a bunch planes at the moment, it's great fun! -
why do people think noobs cant handle far/near?
sporkafife replied to ostrich's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
It's not that noobs "can't" use FAR or NEAR, it's just that it changes rocket design quite a lot, so you it's a very different experience. If anything, a complete noob would probably be better off designing a rocket good for FAR, because FAR forces you to make realistic (-ish) rockets instead of asparagus beasts -
Whats the stupidest name you've given to one of your ships?
sporkafife replied to sedativechunk's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I designed a huge MK3 jet to give piggy-back rides and glide tests to my smaller MK2 planes (so not technically a space ship, just a regular old atmospheric jet). Because it's huge, ugly and unwieldy I called it the "C-6 Big Beatrix" -
Ah yes, I remember the insane heat killing absolutely everything I sent there...

Have a kerbin orbit with the same period as the Mun, but about 60° in front of or behind it, and you can fake an L4 or L5 orbit that always sees one side of the Mun

No, of course KSP isn't dying. I've been playing since the update that added C7's spaceplane parts (I can't remember the version number) and while I don't play the game as much as I did then, I still play it plenty. And I play it loads when a new update comes out. Think of it like a relationship. At first it's like "wooow, so exciting, must do EVERYTHING" and you spend every minute thinking about, whereas after a while it matures and becomes something longer lasting. Although you still get that frenzy of love every time something new and exciting happens (a new update!) As for the community, this must be the 4th or 5th time I've seen the "KSP community is dying/changing and I don't like it" thread. Is it changing? I don't know. But at the end of the day, communities do change over time. Squad now has a consistent weekly schedule to their community interactions, which wasn't true for a long time. I remember us all waiting weeks between hearing anything, and when we did it would be a cryptic post from Novasilisko on an update thread! (THIS NEXT PART IS MY OPINION, PINCH OF SALT REQUIRED) The fact that the forums activity has mostly changed from "look at this awesome thing I did" to "let's split in half to bash/defend the latest decision by Squad" is probably why it doesn't seem to have as deep interaction any more. I'm not even going to get in to where my opinion lies on the matter, but I'll just say this: there have been plenty of "controversial" decisions made by Squad throughout development (even going back to changing the desktop icon in 0.14.something!) and it has always been fine.

I'm extremely boring, so my lifters are just named after the Greek alphabet. The 1.25m launchers are Alpha, 2.5m launchers are Beta, and the new huge 3.75m rocket parts are Gamma. And they have a number after their name corresponding to the mass they can carry to a 100km LKO. For example, my 2.5m launcher that can carry 25.5 tonnes into orbit is the "Beta 255". Pretty boring, I know

what emotions do you get from the ksp songs?
sporkafife replied to awsomejwags's topic in KSP1 Discussion
It makes me fear that at any second of my journey, I may be thwarted by gigantic space whales... -
KSP on Linux w/ Radeon 4xxx HD - Ubuntu WIN!
sporkafife replied to JackDraak's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Thanks for the advice, but I did get it working eventually using NVIDIA's drivers. The drivers for Linux are relatively new so I previously used Bumblebee, but like you I had varying degrees of success with that! -
KSP on Linux w/ Radeon 4xxx HD - Ubuntu WIN!
sporkafife replied to JackDraak's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've been running KSP on Ububtu for a while! The problem for me has never been getting steam to install, it has been getting my damn laptop's dual power saving graphics wizardry to work properly! -
Really just 1/100000'th an ant, but they feel real.

Dude... do you need a hug? -
It is pretty rare in game, and was probably either captured by the mun (or less likely, Minmus), or entered orbit due to slight physics errors from rounding, time acceleration, etc. If it was captured by the Mun, it's orbit would be Mun crossing, meaning that eventually (whether it takes 4 orbits or 40billion orbits) it would enter the Mun's SOI again. And after a few encounters (again, it might take hundreds of encounters, or just one) it would be sent back into solar orbit, or be set on a collision course with Kerbin/the Mun.

If you're a veteran for remembering that livestream, what does that make me for remembering when the Mun was released... and when they released the persistence feature... and where they first released the patched conics system to help us get to that Mun xD

the new cargo bays are too small...
sporkafife replied to JtPB's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I'm sure Squad will eventually redo the mk.3 spaceplane parts now that they've started the spaceplane revamp, and them parts are much more rounded so I can imagine the mk.3 cargo bays being much larger, still not large enough to fit 2.5m parts in though -
They change dependant on how many posts you make. The more posts, the more awesome your title becomes

Haha thanks I literally have zero photo editing skill (for example it took about 5 minutes to find how to make tha red circle in GIMP), so when the flags came out I wanted to make one that was witty but required no photo editing skills

Look at it... LOOK AT IT! Why don't the blocks line up! This is the worst game ever! Now I have to play the game while trying not to puke every time a launch this rocket. On a serious note, it would be nice to see the textures match up a little better

I finally unlocked the Cube Octag! What have YOU unlocked?
sporkafife replied to SkyHook's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I always go along the bottom of the tree and get the science parts first, then I go for the struts and the fuel lines! Once you have as many of the science parts unlocked as possible, you can unlock the whole tech tree in 1 Minmus and 1 Mun mission. Some people don't like how late the fuel lines and struts unlock. I love it, it gives you the feel of the good old days of KSP when we didn't have no god darn struts! And asparagus staging wasnt even thought of! -
A 16 month necro post? Fair enough...

I did too. I can only assume that the OPs first language isn't English. In many languages, a question is said as a statement of fact just with a question mark at the end. The switching round of the words "There are" and "Are there" to change the sentence from statement to a question is one of the quirks of English.
