  1. Imagine transferring science to a vessel that doesn't exist. Orbiting an invisible planet around the star of your imagination. You may have just entered, The Kerbal Zone.
  2. I bought the game between the Persistent update and the Minimul Aeronautics updates then Man that was a while ago now... but I specifically remember the first update being the one with C7s space plane parts
  3. I honestly thought Venus was larger than the Earth for a few minutes when talking to my friends a few days ago, only because Eve is bigger then Kerbin
  4. Really? I saw that the landing wheels weighed 0.5 units and though they were unnecessarily messing up my ships delta-v
  5. I think it's pretty obvious that the stock aircraft landing wheels in the game are too heavy, as having three point gear will weigh well about 1.5 mass units. My question is what would be a non-OP value to change the landing gear mass to? I don't really want to install any more mods, but I don't want any more super heavy wheels making my planes more difficult to build!
  6. I definitely wouldn't want to go for anything weapon related in KSP. It just shouldn't be that sort of game in my eyes. But I think maybe having a rival organisation to beat to certain objectives is a possibility... but maybe it could be synced with your friends' progress online when that gets implemented. Edit: I don't mean rivals as in different countries either, maybe just different companies looking for funding and contracts - like the companies getting funding from NASA for ISS resupply missions
  7. A lot of people didn't really like the procedural craters, so I don't think we'll see them coming to all the airless bodies, at least not in the current iteration. Biomes on all the planets are a given though. Think of the biomes in the Kerbin system as a sign of intent to add them to all planets, but they will probably introduce all the career mode features before fleshing them out fully.
  8. Sounds like a challenge to me I did try an Impactor method once, but it didn't really change the orbit at all. If I got there early enough it would probably make a difference, but the best option for class E is the claw. It's unlocked pretty early on in the tech tree, before you even get to most of the large rocket parts, so it's more than possible
  9. I... I may have missed the memo, but what is pancake staging? This term seems to have come out of nowhere for me lol.
  10. And sometimes it's pretty annoying, especially when you lose control of your vehicle due to lack of electricity... "Wait, why can't I steer? I'm on the day side or Kerbi... oh, a freakin eclipse" xD
  11. It looks like the game spawned many instances of Barski inside each other for no apparent reason... Do you have RemoteTech installed? Because I've had a few satellites spawn four instances of itself in the same place, leading to lots of 'splosions the second I loaded them
  12. Didn't Scott Manley once show that you could actually return to Kerbin on RCS if you jump from Gilly at just the right time?
  13. Sending a fuel tanker ahead of your mission might seem like a great plan, but it is always more fuel efficient (but much more tricky) to send all the fuel, landers and other equipment on one ship with one set of engines.
  14. Thank you to both JDCollie and KerbMav. With both of your comments I now have a full understanding of how to use this mod I used RemoteTech (or something similar) many versions ago, before the game even had probes, and it was a whole lot simpler than this Now I'm pretty confident I know what I'm doing, I suppose I'll just have to redesign my comms network
  15. Hey guys, I'm having a major problem. I've just started setting up a RemoteTech network for sending probes out into the universe instead of just manned pods, and I'm not entirely sure if I've set it up properly, because it's a little broken! The first thing I did was send up 3 Keostationary satellites, two have a view of mission control and the third one doesn't. They each have two directional antennas with 50Mm range. I set one dish to point at "mission control" and the other to point at "active vessel". Are these the correct two options to make sure they can relay a signal from any vessel? Because the third satellite, the one with no direct view of mission control, won't relay it's signal through one of the other satellites unless I specifically tell it to point one of it's dishes at one of the other two satellites. Shouldn't pointing it at "mission control" be enough for it to figure out to route the signal through one of the other satellites? After all, they both have a dish pointed at "active vessel" as well as a second pointed at mission control... at the moment I have to specifically select one of the other satellites as the target for RemoteTech to connect to mission control. Is this just how the mod works, or have I set up my dishes wrong?
  16. Is it possible to get the 64bit version from steam on Linux? If not then I regret switching mine to Steam :/
  17. I would use KSP on Linux if I was able to, the difference isn't much, but it is definitely noticeable. And when running lots of mods, 64bit is so much better. Unfortunately, my laptop has the slightly unusual Nvidia Optimus setup, where the computer decides whether the dedicated Nvidia GPU or the integrated Intel GPU handles certain tasks, and when I last tried it, the support was pretty shoddy for Linux and I couldn't find a work around, meaning KSP was only running on my little Intel card and I was missing out on some neat graphical effects like reentry heat. And in trying to fix it I completely broke Ubuntu and the GUI no longer works... only the command line interface XD If the situation has changed and the Optimus Bumblebee thing actually works now, someone give me a nod and I might go back Oh, another problem, if I switched over to steam is it still possible to get the 64bit version? :S
  18. That's awesome!! I'd love to get an Enemy Kerman, and look he's quite a courageous little fella! I don't know how much I'd be willing to trust him though...
  19. It's pretty easy to do if you're a bit spammy on the intakes, and probably possible without that. The problem is, because the atmosphere will be constantly slowing you down, you have to continue using fuel to stay there.
  20. I'm not sure how long you've been away, but the community itself has gotten quite a bit larger, but luckily the influx of players doesn't seem to have made it worse, as happens to many online communities. On the game front, nothing huge and mind blowing recently, just incremental changes geared towards career mode like the introduction of science and the tech tree, nothing much has changed in sandbox mode. A few new parts like the RAPIER engine. And in dev news, Squad have announced that they actually are going to develop multiplayer, and are pushing back the development of a resources system to an indeterminate time in the future. Despite these two decisions probably not being related, everyone thought it was basically multiplayer vs resources and went really crazy, but shhh!! They seem to have forgotten about it for now.
  21. I know it's a bit annoying to not be able to accurately see your nodes from far away, but it is probably just the way that KSP's game engine only very roughly estimates the orbit going forward until you time accelerate and lock it in to place. I suppose I take the approach that even NASA have to do mid course corrections, and they've got much more powerful computers and accurate models than I do to plan maneuvers with
  22. The best way to land on Tylo is with a lander whose final stage is just a kerbal seat and a small engine. Every Kg you cut from the spacecraft that will eventually get back to orbit after taking off from Tylo can save 10's or maybe even 100's of Kgs from the whole lander, making the whole thing easier to get out to Tylo in the first place. Same logic works for Eve I suppose
  23. The thing that bugs me is that the MET is in earth seconds, but a Kerbal day is only a fraction of an earth day! And a kerbal year is a fraction of an earth year, so when I'm roleplaying as the director of my space program, which system do I use in my press interviews!?! Yes, I roleplay and do fake interviews with myself in my head about the state of my space program. Deal with it
  24. I think using hyperedit instead of getting somewhere legit is a bit cheaty, but just using it to mess around and send Kerbin Flying into the sun or put Duna in orbit around Eve and generally screwing around is all in good fun Just make sure to do it on a different install of the game, otherwise it can mash up your real save files pretty badly.
  25. I've not managed or even tried to land on Tylo just yet. I'm only just sending my first manned mission to Laythe, so hopefully Tylo is not too far away. Every now and then I start planning what my lander will look like, and I feel a lander where the final stage is tiny with just 2 Kerbal seats is the only way to really make the craft light enough to land and take off properly.
