  1. I have a confession to make. I am Carthaginian, Kickstarter #43634, and I pre-ordered an Ouya. It all seemed so cool at first. I'd be in on the ground floor for a new and exciting company. There were promises of a great new system and cool new games- AFFORDABLE games- and open source development. It even looked kinda neat... small, compact, sleek. I've been backing since last August, and I'm now filled with nothing but anger and regret. The mid-March ship date for backers was delayed by 'promo units' to the publishers of electronics mags. Then they said that 'Easter and [Chinese holiday I know nothing about] disrupted production.' They have no customer service to speak of. They never give the unit numbers that they shipped this week. I finally challenge them by e-mail and am told 'the week before it hits stores, you should have yours.' If you ordered an Ouya and are experiencing a similar negative impact on your life, I invite you to share your story here...
  2. Any chance of getting them with 'less bling?'
  3. I like the work quite a bit. I've been looking forward to a Soviet-style parts pack with engines and such.
  4. Actually, that was one of the major factors that they say contributed to the failure of the N1: Major rocket equipment could be transported to Cape Canaveral by barge in one piece. This is not so of the Soviet rockets, which had to be disassembled and shipped by train. The assembly/disassembly/reassembly process was blamed for a myriad of defects that might have developed in the Soviet Rockets.
  5. OPSEC rule #1: The odds of a secret being discovered are a function of the square of the number of people aware of it. Layman's Translation: If you don't want no questions asked, don't let anyone know you're working on something. This would open up an entirely new modding theater- a virtual Magrathea. Custom planets and moons would abound; eventually, whole new star systems would appear. I have to say I am very hopeful that the OP is telling us the truth, although his intro bears a strong similarity to the first line of any sea story (generally "No $%&*, man... this really happened"). If this is true, KSP has truly become a realm of unlimited possibilities. And so, Slartibartfast, I'll have a planet where Kerbal girls in bikinis parachute from the skies.
  6. Soviet rockets, like their warships and aircraft, were undeniably pretty. I'm looking forward to this pack; I've always wanted to give my rockets a more East Bloc look.
  7. OK, that was the problem. I had mapped Kerbin, Mun and Minmus... but didn't have the right switch thrown to save the map data for use. Thanks for helping me figure that out; sorry if I came off as a bit dense.
  8. Makes me wanna try for REAL orbit with SRB's only!
  9. I got some really good shots of one myself. Might have to post 'em.
  10. I generally edit things OUT rather than IN. Before we got the multiple career options, I always kept a back-up save file though... and I have on occasion used it to put a craft that suffered a 'spontaneous existence failure' back into the correct orbit.
  11. What do I want to see? 1.) A short-period comet would be cool. 2.) A volcanically active planet or moon. 3.) Any planet that is not like a planet in our solar system.
  12. Stengahpolis, I tried it, but got this: Bimbo0099, Where are the rendered mapfiles put? The GUI will not actually produce anything nor register any maps when I refresh the list? Does KSP have to be running in the background or something? C:\Games\KSP_win\MODS\ISA_MapSat_3.3.0\PluginData\isa_mapsat>
  13. Stengahpolis and Bimbo0099, Thanks. Been a long time since I played with command lines, and a lot of that knowledge was replaced by more pressing concerns.
  14. You don't understand- there is no guide as to how to get the command window to produce results. I can open the window, but when I type in ISA_MapGen.exe, nothing runs. Assuming this is working like an old DOS line, that should have started things up. So, line-by-line, what should it look like to get the program to run? Please?
  15. Ok, how are the command lines to be entered? I haven't worked with a command prompt since Dynamix made flight sims?
  16. Ok. How, in Win7, would I do that? I need to know the cd commands to get to the mapsat.exe file.
  17. DO NOT use steel; it WILL damage the rifling (unless you are taking chrome-lined). Anything you stick inside a barrel MUST be brass- especially on the milder steel of an airgun. This sounds like an expensive mistake and a very good learning experience. 1.) never try to 'save one'- either it is expensive enough to get a professional involved, or it is cheap enough to throw away. 2.) weapons that are in dubious condition go KA-BOOM; they are not to be fired until inspected by a professional. 3.) do not hammer, ram, jam or otherwise force anything into the barrel that is not designed to come out again. 4.) never use tissue paper in any manner for cleaning a weapon- it leaves lint, which causes fouling of moving parts. 5.) use only soft cloth cleaning patches inside the barrel, and do not use more than one at the time. 6.) if it is dirty enough to use two patches at once, it is dirty enough to use two patches one time each. 7.) if one patch doesn't fit, you are using the wrong cleaning patch/tool combo. I could continue going, but the basic point that I am trying to make is apparently the weapon is in poor condition and the proper tools or training to correct the problem are not present. In the interest of saving a weapon that might possibly still be serviceable and most of all your own personal safety, please seek a professional gunsmith.
  18. The BV 141 and several other designs were offered by the shipbuilding firm Blohm + Voss during WWII. The BV 141 (which inspired my design) was a spotter plane that entered 'limited' production, but used the same engine as the FW 190, so its chances of series production was absolutely nil. There were also fighter.bomber and jet divebomber designs offered, but none were picked up by the Luftwaffe. Note- my design suffers more from the yaw effects because of the jet engine. The BV 141 had the tail section behind the piston engine and thus had more of the control forces centered around the line of thrust of the aircraft. My design (due to the limits of KSP parts) was unable to duplicate this, so my design has to compensate for the thrust rather than simply deal with the weights being off-balance. ATM, it requires a lot of rudder involvement to do that, and the design suffers as a result. I will continue to refine the design in coming days and produce new aircraft- but I gotta get to work now.
  19. That is a LOT of dV to be dragging around through space! Gonna be interesting to see how you get it to Eve orbit! Oh, extra 'cool points' for taking off from the middle off the ocean!
  20. You want asymmetrical? I'll give you ASYMMETRICAL!!! Now, ATM, control is only possible with the greatest of difficulty, but I will find a way to add some 'trim tabs' into the design and give the rudder a bit more authority over control. ATM, it is tied up in keeping the craft on a straight course. Takeoff is difficult and it didn't land well, but that's all part of the learning process! UPDATE - wow, this is easier than I thought. The aircraft is now fairly easy to fly (wingtip rudders added), and has even landed semi-successfully (sans the outboard port wing). Work will continue after I get home from work at 000 CDT (GMT- 6). This has the possibility to be a VERY fun aircraft. It has good lift, a comfortable stall speed, and (aside from needing constant port rudder) fairly forgiving controls. During takeoff and landing the port-mounted engine is VERY noticeable, though- landing works best as an unpowered glide, but there is enough lift to manage that well. During takeoff, she will always yaw to starboard uncontrollably... but don't let that grass worry you, she's rough field capable. UPDATE 2 - Squeezed in a little more tweaking before work. I like this little ship a lot; it now flies well and predictably, but those yaw-induced starboard turns will give you fits the first few times. Turn on SAS, keep your speed low if you are near the ground, and be ready to glide in for landings! Here's the file for ya'll to play with a bit!
  21. When I click on the ISA_MapGen to open it, I get a window that flashes and then goes away. What am I doing wrong?
  22. There are those of us who take pride in accomplishing things the hard way. If I do something using MechJeb, I do not post that I accomplished it- because I didn't actually do anything. The computer did all the work and I just sat around and watched it happen.
  23. I would have given Rep for each post in the series, but it only lets us do it once. Even this old ground pounder understands that.
