totm dec 2023 Artemis Discussion Thread
steve58 replied to Nightside's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Not sure if this has been posted anywhere (did a quick search, but came up zilch), but you can have your name included (for free) on a flash drive that will fly aboard Artemis I. https://www.nasa.gov/send-your-name-with-artemis/ -
How and when I stumbled upon KSP is lost to history, but it was "somewhere" on the internet. I think I made my forum account in August 2011 after buying the "early access" 0.7.3 release. I could've gotten in for $7, but was so impressed I went an extra $3.

KSP was one of, if not the first, Alpha/Betas I ever bought into. My buy in date was Aug 12, 2011. I remember the buy in price was $7. I was so hooked on the free early Alpha versions, that I went and gave Squad a whole $10!

Vote to name largest minor planet in our solar system
steve58 replied to steve58's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Actually it does have a name, 2007 OR10. Its just not an official name, hence the voting. -
A minor planet discovered in our solar system over a decade ago remains nameless, and the astronomers who made the heavenly find are now turning to the public for help. Meg Schwamb, Mike Brown and David Rabinowitz discovered (225088) 2007 OR10 on July 17, 2007, at the Palomar Observatory in California, although early traces of its existence date back to 1985. Using a 48-inch telescope, the trio identified what they called the largest unnamed world in our solar system as it orbited the Sun beyond Neptune in the Kuiper Belt. For almost 12 years 2007 OR10 has kept the clinical designation given to it by the Minor Planet Center (MPC) but after years of analysis and research, Schwamb, Brown and Rabinowitz have selected three names they feel best suit the Minor Planet and have put the decision up to a vote on their website. Participants will be able to choose one of three carefully selected names: Gonggong, Holle and Vili. Each name was pre-selected to match requirements set by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and has a special meaning that is relevant to the minor planet. People will have until May 10 to submit their vote and the winner will be announced shortly after. It will then be submitted to the IAU for the final approval. 2007 OR10 consists largely of ice and rock, and astronomers believe that water may have existed on its surface at one point. In 2016 it was announced that the minor planet also had an orbiting moon. The Minor Planet is not visible to the naked eye. Vote here. Cast your vote by 11:59 pm PDT on May 10, 2019.

Store is Broken
steve58 replied to snakemasterepic's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
I've got the same issue as OP. Sent an email to [email protected] and got an auto response to send an email to [email protected]. Got another auto response from Support . Hopefully it'll get resolved soon...ish. *THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC RESPONSE, PLEASE DO NOT REPLY* Thank you for contacting KSP Support. We are a small team doing our best to reply as soon as possible, please expect an answer from a human being soon. In the mean time, perhaps this is something you can solve yourself, we invite you to take a look at our FAQ and the common issues thread: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/124820-common-issues-the-launchpatcher-command-line-arguments-and-why-ksp-wont-start-on-macos/ https://kerbalspaceprogram.com/en/?page_id=19 If KSP is crashing after the latest update and you're using mods, that's why. Please either reinstall a fresh copy of KSP or roll back your installation to 1.2.2, this is how you do that on Steam: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/161113-revert-to-122/ -

DARPA requests designs for XS-1 military space plane

Not sure why they didn't check the KSP forums first DARPA requests designs for XS-1 military space plane -
fyi: a team of researchers at Arizona State University are developing FemtoSats, an even smaller satellite that is easier and less expensive to launch. A CubeSat can launch upto 27 Femosats.

Ha, anyone that plays KSP has been launching these for years

Count me in as well. I'm no Rocket Scientist , nor do I have an excess amount of time to become one, so MechJeb makes Kerbal very playable for me, so a very belated Thanks! That said, I did notice a msg ("This command module is facing the wrong way. It must have the same rotation as the root part or it may result in a misaligned navball.") in the Engineers Report that may be related to/caused by MechJeb. I posted about it in this thread. Another poster thought you'd be interested. Thanks again...

I keep seeing this item in the Engineers Report/Design Checklist" "This command module is facing the wrong way. It must have the same rotation as the root part or it may result in a misaligned navball." First, I thought the command module was the root part. Second, I've tried to rotate the command module, but still get the msg. Doesn't seem to be a major issue, just curious. Thanks...

...so how much would it cost to live forever? Seems like our whole society/etc would need a major thought/life change
