I think most people have tried building the Millenium Falcon at one point, but few get as far as you have. That is a real achievement. The falcon has both radial symmetry (best for the VAB) and Bilateral symmetry (left/right mirror, best for the SPH), and to top it off, has an extremely asymmetrical element hanging off one side, which makes ballancing everything pretty much impossible without adding a ton of dead weight as counter ballance on one side. So basically it is a PITA. This Skeleton is as far as I got on mine before trowing in the towel: I wanted it to be able to hover off the ground translate into forward motion and then airhog into orbit like a space plane. It sorta hovers (terrifyingly), translates (terrifyingly), and when I skin it in placeholder wings and bodypanels will even almost fly. sorta. It is unbelievably hard keeping the center of mass stable in all three axes to achieve that. Oh well. Someone with more patience will always come along to do it. Hint.

WARNING: (10/10/2014) All craft are for version 0.24 or lower. 0.25 has made most of these designs obsolete; where possible designs will be rebuilt with the new parts. (Newest Items Are Added to the Original Post!) (Older Craft are found in the Sub-post banner area and in the thread body) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Replicraft Pack" 8/27/2014 It was time for a break from my SSTO obsession, so I've been making stock Modern Jets! I've noticed a lot of interest in this sort of thing around here lately, and it kind-of swept me up too. It's quite a challenge to mimic some of the shapes in modern fighter aircraft using stock parts, and it has really stretched my building techniques to the max. Here is a pack of 7 of my more successful designs. Included are: F-15 with Drop tanks. F-16 with Drop tanks. F-32A JSF Dassault Rafale with drop tanks YF-23 Mig-31 Avro Arrow. Like most pure aircraft in KSP, these don't really DO a whole lot. But they are fun to turn & burn around the Space Center. Thanks for looking and Enjoy! Versatile SSTO Spaceplanes with no need for refueling
Exothermos replied to pa1983's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I just wanted to post to tell you that I think your designs are brilliant. I've been tearing through them for weeks, "Appropriating" ideas (stealing). They are super clean, straight, ballanced, and polished. Very impressive. I personally Am trying to avoid the parts clipping that gives such a huge advantage on items such as air intakes but there is no denying the huge performance gains that this gives! -
SSTOs! Post your pictures here~
Exothermos replied to KissSh0t's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
So I've been having a great time learning the ropes for space planes. I only use stock stuff, but some of the craft posted here make me want to rethink that. After many failed attempts, this was the first functional SSTO that I came up with: A boxy little thing that I creatively named "Speedy Box": It lives up to its name: Its spiritual successor is a plane I just got working correctly tonight, the "Arrow". I really, really like this one: It's been a long time in development. Here is an early version: Finally It's pretty efficient. Such a Looooonnngg design has limitations. For instance, manual ballancing of fuel Once during ascent, and Docking... and landing. But it's worth it. Docked at a space station with plenty of fuel left. Parts count Nightmare! : If there is any interest I will post the craft file in a thread or something. Now if I could only get a SSTO using the Mk 3 cockpit to work.
