New for 0.17: the ultimate in non-laggy inter-planetary missions. The IPL VII! The file: -
Congrats everyone . You've done so well... though no one has attempted solar landing yet .
-
Woo, my space ship in use by someone else . He nicknamed it "the Penetrator". It was loltastic watching him land.
-
I hit eve going like 3500 m/s. Thankfully I had 5 chutes, thought i did pull like 300 g's
-
Landed on Eve as well. Got a few more pics on this one. Hit like 300 G's on entry but whatever .
-
Woo, I landed! Dark side of Duna, but landed is landed (low gravity bounce is why I'm sideways). Here's the rocket: Here's the landing with Jeb (what a lucky Kerbal he is!)
-
Since 0.17 just came out, lets land on everything, post some pics, and show off the incredible rockets that it took to get there (and back?) I'm currently aiming for Duna (Mars). Is there a faster time warp? Show pics when I land/crash into it.

Efficient Inter-Plantery Launch Vehicle
Mindofscience3 replied to Mindofscience3's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Here's the best I could do: Delta-V ~ 12,500 m/s Weight: 59 tons Score = 12500/59 = 212 -
This vehicle should: *Not grind the game to a halt *Highest delta-V possible (90° launch) *Ships scored based on delta-V/starting weight Can be stock or mod (stock preferable, and Mechjeb for info is considered "stock" if everything else besides Mechjeb is stock) Stock: 1: MoS 212 points 2 3 4 5 Mod: 1 2 3 4 5

I tried to supersize your design concept. Now it's the biggest bomb I've ever made in KSP -
Space Junk Accident!
Mindofscience3 replied to henryrasia's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
As I said previously, this inadvertently happened to me when testing an inter-planetary rocket for 0.17. Launched it and some junk took out two of the five engines, leading to catastrophic failure and stuff. I was all like wtf just happened to my ship and I blamed the kraken prematurely. No pics (sorry) but I can say it has happened. -

Another plane I neglected to mention: Bomber I (28 bombs, flies, and the pilot has a rocket plane escape pod thingy) -

The Bomber I (load of 28 bombs AND the pilot survives in a rocket-plane escape!): -
Check out my thread. Got a couple of planes you might be interested in there . There's one that I haven't uploaded which is just a giant bomber made out of... bombs .

Which is the most fun to fly?

Space Junk Accident!
Mindofscience3 replied to henryrasia's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I was launching a rocket and a part hit the rocket, taking out two of it's engines, thus making it flip over and disintegrate. -
I drop the jets once the tanks associated are empty. I ran at full throttle to avoid the fuel bug since I have not installed the fix. I burned ~20 of my tanks getting half way then burned the last ~8 in the final half. I'm not trying to use fuel line bugs or anything. If it is accidentally, then perhaps it'll be better to see it in 0.17 when that is fixed. The calculation is more like this: 6x400L @ 2.8L/s then 6x400L @ 2.0L/s then 10x400L @ 1.2L/s then 8x400L @ 0.4L/s. This gives a flight time of approximately: 3 hours 43 mins. This is more than I needed as I landed about 3 hours 25 mins (a bit sooner actually since I was looking around for a couple mins before I ended the flight). Edit: A secondary note: the leftover time is ~20 mins. @ 0.4L/s this translates to 480L or just over a tank. Any fuel-line glitch is responsible for the extra tank of fuel I had leftover at the end. Either way, I would have made it.
-
I completed this challenge with a max height of ~12500m. 30 fuel tanks on the plane although I landed with ~2.25 tanks left so I could cut down by probably 3 tanks and be ok. Used mechjeb to fly since it's pretty unstable (understatement of the century) as the fuel burns front to back. Highest speed was 400m/s. Stats and plane pictured below.

The occupants of the capsule must survive. How they survive is up to you.
-
In short, no. The plane must be able to land safely because Jeb doesn't want his fellow kerbonauts to die... just the space program .
