You could just put a Kethane mine on the small moons near a planet with an atmosphere. Just have your ship stop by there, refuel, and then transfer to the atmosphere.

It really depends on how you place the struts. Also, strutting everything to the center fuel tank stack helps.

Awesome mod, literally had to pick my jaw off the floor. I can mine Kethane just fine on the Mün on 0.17. Not sure about other planets/moons though. Can't even get there (in one piece).
