  1. I just want to download an ISO but of course you just cant download an ISO you have to go through some convoluted process and use a microsoft tool to do what is a very basic process which of course isnt working

There is no ISO. If you want to upgrade, you have to do it through MCT or Windows Update. MCT can also create a bootable USB or DVD for you. How is it in any way "convoluted"? Download the program, open it, select either one of the two options, hit next and let it take care of the rest.

Like I said in my previous post, if any of those methods aren't working, there is probably something wrong with your computer and you should reinstall Windows 7/8.1 and all available updates and then upgrade to 10. Or you can keep banging your head against the wall - you might get it to work eventually, but seriously, this is the easiest and quickest way. It'll take a few hours, but after it's done, you can create a USB/DVD installer and use that if you ever need to reinstall it again.

  2. One more question, I'm running Windows 8.1. Should I use File History for backups, or System Image Recovery?

I honestly don't know as I've never used either one of those. I'd say the easiest and most foolproof option is to just copy all the important stuff onto a USB hard drive (or to a NAS drive if you have one).

I am getting nothing from that media creation tool its been running for hours with zero percent progress

First, make sure your computer is up to date and that it meets the requirements (these can be viewed through the "Get Windows 10" app), and then try again. If MCT still doesn't work, you can try the "wuauclt.exe /updatenow" method. If that also fails, it's probably best to backup your stuff, do a clean reinstall of Windows, install all the updates and then use MCT to upgrade. This is what I did when it refused to upgrade my existing installation.

  3. Does it keep my stuff? Sorry for all the questions, having eye muscle surgery in 6 days and I'm nervous about that.

It does, unless you tell it not to. However, doing a full reinstall after upgrading is probably a good idea if you want to get a 100% "out-of-the-box" experience without any left over stuff from the older version. It should work just fine without a reinstall though.

  4. Seriously please help me ;-;

I really want to use Cortana

Since you've upgraded from Win7/8.1 already (and thus registered your copy of Win10 - just to be sure, right click on the start menu, then click on "System" and at the bottom of the window, it should say "Windows has been activated" or something like that), I'd recommend using the Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB stick (Or a DVD) and reinstalling to get rid of any old Win7 stuff that might be causing the problem.

Also, I finally managed to update! Only took me 4 hours of downloading and trying to run the installer (with no success), a clean Win7 reinstall and another 2 or 3 hours of installing updates... Still have to do a clean install but that shouldn't take too long.

    E: It's working! Yay! :D

  5. Alright, so it seems that there are two alternative methods of installing if Windows Update refuses to do its thing. You can download the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's website and use that to download and install the update directly, or you can create a bootable USB and then browse to the drive and run setup.exe to install. Both of these should count as an "update" instead of a "clean install", so it should be able to associate your product key with the new version. This won't happen if you actually boot the installer from the USB drive as it can only be used to perform a clean installation or to repair a broken one, so you must use Windows Update or the two abovementioned methods to perform the first installation.

I'm currently using the Media Creation Tool to do a direct update. Will report back with results once it's done.

  6. Command line? you mean cmd.exe?

aswell as that, where would I find Windows Update

Yes, cmd.exe is the command line. Right click it and run as admin. Windows Update can be accessed through the control panel, or you can just type "Windows Update" in the start menu's search bar and it should show up.

  7. How does one start the update??? I have the updater, but it hasn't notified me to update it?

You can force it to download and install by doing these steps:

    1) Delete all files from C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download (this is where Windows Update keeps files while they're being downloaded - it's a temp folder of sorts)

    2) Open the command line as admin and type "wuauclt.exe /updatenow" (without quotes), don't hit enter yet.

    3) Open Windows Update and click "check for updates"

    4) While it's checking for updates, go back to the command line window and hit enter. The Windows Update window's "checking for updates" progress box should change into "Downloading Windows 10". You may have to do this multiple times if it doesn't. Go back to the command line window, hit the up arrow key to select the previously used command and hit enter to run it again. I had to do it twice to get it to download the update.

This may not work, though. Mine downloaded just fine but got stuck while installing. It might've been caused by (a) corrupt file(s) so I'm redownloading and will give it another try.

  8. As I understood we can reserve Win10 but delay the actual update as we see fit?

Correct. Just remember to perform the first install before July 29th 2016 or you'll have to buy a licence.

Also, Microsoft has released the ISO installers. Get the media creation tool at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10. The tool will download the ISO and create a bootable DVD or USB. If Windows Update isn't giving you the option to install and you don't want to wait, you can just use this to install it right away.

E: That's the US website so it may or may not offer the correct version for non-US users. If someone decides to download it, please confirm.

E2: After some googling, it seems that the first installation must be done through Windows Update in order to associate your Win7/8.1 product key with your Win10 licence. You will not be able to activate it if you perform the first installation from the ISO.

  9. home built or prebuilt. cause theres a batch file i whipped up that fixes no update.

I've reserved my update and it has already downloaded all the files (I've checked C:\$Windows.~BT - it's 5.83 gigs, sounds about right). It's just not giving me the option to install it yet. The "Get Windows 10" thing says it'll notify me when the update is ready to install. Apparently Microsoft is releasing it in stages which means everyone won't be getting it at the same time. Maybe that's what's causing this.

  10. To quote my post in another thread (again, not a documentary, but great stuff nevertheless):

If you really want to know how jet engines work, check out a channel called AgentJayZ on Youtube. The guy works at a company that repairs old jet engines and has plenty of videos explaining just about everything you need to know about them. He even does these "Your Questions" videos where he answers questions posted by his viewers.

  12. Lunar industrial colony combined with spacecraft based on NASA's Asteroid Redirect mission (if it succeeds). Grab small asteroids or pieces of larger ones and put them in an orbit around the Moon, or set them on a collision course so they land in some remote area and can then be mined. Mineral-rich 'roids can make you a lot of money if you can figure out a cost efficient way to redirect and mine them. We're talking about millions, even billions of dollars for a single asteroid.

  13. I've never heard something so idiotic... Some Pentiums may be horrible (i.e. ye' olde' Pentium 2's), but the new Intel Pentiums, especially the anniversary edition, kick arse for the price and is a great choice for overclocking on a cheap budget (the anniversary Pentium)

They have great single core performance. Other than that, yes, they ARE terrible. If an application has any kind of multithreading support, even a non-OC'd i3 will blow an overclocked G3258 out of the water in most cases.

OP, the Pentium is fine if you're only going to play KSP, but if you plan to play any AAA titles such as BF4 or the upcoming Fallout 4, you're doing yourself a disservice by getting one. Get an i3 or an i5 if you can afford one - you will not regret it.

  14. When launching rockets, I always drop the final ascent stage when my periapsis is 69 km (even if it still has fuel in it) so it re-enters the atmosphere, and then use the orbital stage to circularize. Why? Because I'm too lazy to go to the tracking station and terminate the orbiting fuel tank.

  15. Intels are far superior to AMDs. Also, if you have the money to spare, do yourself a favor and get an i5 - that thing will wipe the floor with the Pentium. An i3/i5/i7 is also a much more future-proof choice because more and more games will be able to take advantage of multiple cores and multithreading. The Pentium won't last longer than a few years at most, it's hopelessly obsolete.

  16. Many of you have probably heard of Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator. PULSAR: Lost Colony is a spiritual successor to Artemis - but with a twist. Just like Artemis, it's a multiplayer co-op spaceship simulator (5 players), but that's where the similarities end. A short summary of the differences below:

    - You're free to move inside your ship! The ship's systems are controlled by switches and holographic screens located in various rooms (Bridge, engineering, weapons, science lab, medical room etc).

    - You can use the ship's transporter to beam down to a planet or to board another ship.

    - The crews of hostile ships can also use their transporter to board your ship, so beware! You can use your phaser pistol to kill them (unfortunately, they also have phasers).

    - Planets and other ships often have useful loot, such as weapons, medical supplies and ship modules.

    - As mentioned above, ships can be upgraded at Repair Stations by swapping modules for better ones. Modules can also be bought and sold for credits at space stations.

    - Characters can be leveled up to improve their skills.

    - Characters can also be customized.

You can get the game at http://www.pulsarthegame.com/ for $25. It's Steam Greenlit so it'll be coming to Steam at some point and you can probably grab it during a sale if the current price feels too high.

I and a fellow KSP Forum group member gave it a go last night and let me tell you, it's great fun even with 2 players! You can, of course, also add AI crew members to fill any empty slots if you feel like it, meaning you can have any combination of AI and real players. Or you could operate the whole ship alone, although that's quite difficult (I tried! It didn't end well).

If you like Star Trek, co-op games and spaceships in general, I strongly recommend you check this out! It's still in pre-beta but it's looking very promising already.

  17. Yes, the resolution is 4 km/pixel as expected for this image. The <1 km/pixel resolution images obviously still have to come down. We won't have any of those for the next 20 hours or so.

That's what I thought. Thanks for the clarification.

  18. There's no way that's the full res one. Wasn't the final image supposed to be less than 1 km/px, compared to the 4 km/px of the previous image? At 4 km/px, Pluto would appear roughly 600 pixels wide, just like in that image. At 1 km/px, it would be nearly 2400 pixels wide (much too big to even fit on a FullHD monitor without scaling/zooming - half of it would be off screen).

  19. There seems to be a problem with the way the mod modifies the stock speed curves (something wrong with the configs, maybe?) - the "Whiplash" turboramjet, for example, has a max thrust of around 23000 kilonewtons. The same happens with all jet engines (both stock and B9). All of them have ridiculous max thrust values.

I put two turboramjets on a plane and it went so fast that every single part on the plane overheated and exploded just seconds after I put the pedal to the metal. I was able to achieve a maximum acceleration of 45 gees with heat damage turned off. It was hilarious, but I don't think it's supposed to work like that.
