  1. I'va noticed a major difference, from "old" MechJeb releases (... i think still present in v. 1.9.8) to newest one (from v. 2.0.** up to actual V. 2.1): programming a launch with the "Ascent autopilot", in older relases was possible to let Mechjeb doing the guidance, but throttle manually (by using the normal, KSP's, command with [sHIFT] and [CTRL] keys) the engines. Actually, Mechjeb allows, automatically, to lower the throttle if a rocket goes at terminal velocity, or, using some advanced option in some of its menues, put a "percentage" of throttle manually, but not dinamically from the normal throttle control allowed by the game itself. I don't know if the "newest" versione code does not allow such a fuction, but that "Allow manual throttle" back should be a nice forgotten last touch. ... it's not a rant... but an old solution for those liking some "personalized features" without using so much menues on the screen... (Some big rockets will love the eventuality to shake a little less, if, after intial boost, not all the power is needed for the full flight )
  2. Already implemented like "study vehicle" to manage similar design of my own, I think that Amoun is referring to the Amphibious VTOLSSTO made by Levelord: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/24734-Amphibious-VTOLSSTO-%28Image-heavy%29?highlight=Amphibious+VTOLSSTO for the serie with also a built in cockpit/rover http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/43499-Amphibious-VTOLSSTO-Mk1-W-STABOJET%E2%84%A2-technology-%280-21-1%29?highlight=Amphibious+VTOLSSTO for the new versions (no rover for the moment) Ensure yourself about checking where eventually you will take it: the vertical take off (like the main atmospheric engines) are made by AIR BREATHING Jet Engine. Without AIR (moons and Duna/Eve planets, that have a no-oxigen atmosphere) NO Vertical take off, if you will not manage to change propulsion For Munoliths research (and eventually mapping) add an ISAMap radar... For Kethane scanning, the right equipment... (As I use some mods, I'm going to change probably the cockpit from an mk.1 to an mk.2, using procedural fairing to build the scanner needed INSIDE an empty nosecone - like modern jet fighters that have their rada inside the nosecone in front of it ) Edit: P.s.: download and try also the "Space ring" nuclear powered that allow those fine spaceplane to dock with and travel interplanetary (You will find it very Star Wars like ) Edit 2: P.P.s: I made the first version a "Study prototype" just after some issues (posted by Levelord himself) regarding some problem with struts used to clip parts together, docking: I ended in a nice explosion docking )
  3. If you use ISAMap mod, it has a nice "kerbalpedia" feature showing you all the most importan planets/moons features... ... but if you don't, http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Main_Page <-- Kerbal Wiki is your friend. Just open the main page and click on planets/moons images to redirect you in nice pages full of datas about orbits, orbital periods, inclinations and so on... ;-)
  4. I read up to this point, so I understand how feel the urges to recreate all the human space race in KSP (I tried that, with light part mods up to Ksp 0.19, ending the effort when, from 0.20 onwards, most of the mods I used to keep low part count goes esponentially worst because same updated mods are RAM eaters and my poor laptop is ddying... ) ... but back on track: if you wanna more infos on space mission, two sites may be helpful: http://space.skyrocket.de/directories/chronology.htm - "Gunter's Space Page", chronological list for every year, from 1957 (Sputnik 1 and after), good for a first look at rockets and payloads, before single extendend research launch by launch to find better photos. http://www.astronautix.com/chrono/index.htm - "Encyclopedia Astronautica - Chronological Index"; not only launches, but a complete (almost) list of EVERY space related events, including a LOT of data about EVERY launch or event related. (Generally I check Gunter's site, first, for a general list, and check Encyclopedia Astronautica for detailed data such orbit incliantion, time of launches and so on...) Cross-checking both helped me for those "partial-failures" or MEMORABLE failures that does not achieved the expected mission goal, but also are pretty known. In a VERY couple of cases one flight may be reported only on one of those (... some Saturn's launches in eraly development, using the first Saturn I, maybe missing in Gunter's but have a record on Ecyclopedia) I'm not a "clipping part builder capable" like you... I like more easy design and mods just to help my poor pc to not die, but definitely, if I could have a decent computer soon or after I'd like to try your creations... (I tried a Gemini of yours, but I endend in a "slide show", 1/2 frame x HOUR ç_ç... not your fault, but my poor pc... ç_ç) EDIT 1: ... I have also a selected list, year by year, in txt format, done during cross checking from both sites, up to 1966 but really sure only up to 1961, that I used DURING play (memory issues if using both KSP and a browser, always due my poooooooooooor PC...) PM me if you wanna a copy . Only issue on my personal notes is about (like you, here) is to avoid multiple, simila, launches with same or similar hardware (Example: I launched a couple of Thor or Atlas with Agena carrying the various USA Discoverer/Corona/MIDAS/Keyhole spy sats, just for depict the Agena development in every stages, but NOT the whole numbers of launches, because they were SO MUCH that deserved probably a whole save to avoid an orbit clusters unplayable ) EDIT 2: ... In exchange You just could teach me about "advanced clipping engineering": I tried to do something like you, but, even activating part-clipping in VAB, I cannot manage Your AWESOME techniques ç_ç I'm so envy EDIT 3: ... my english is poor... but I have an explanation: I'm not english. Salute from ITALIA
  5. Every probe, command pod and cockpit have their own "direction". It's fixed: if you take a pod, for example, and point it down (in a rocket that you build like anyone with also thruster pointing down) on the launchpad you must command it in "reversed way" (E.G.: your prograde direction becomes the retrograde in the Nav-Ball)... ... simply put: the direction where you point your command element (probe/pod/cockpit) is the "forward" for the game, even if in your design it is (intended) another one.
  6. Problem, AGAIN, with Spaceport: it sends a corrupted .zip Same issue found with latest BobCat and NovaPunch uploads for 0.21.1... Any mirror for download? ç_ç
  7. Please (and sorry to bother) but again Spaceport is sending to me only a corrupted zip archive... ... and "yes" (for those bothering to tell): I already tried several-several-several downloads, and never once worked. It's possible to have a mirror link? Please... ... wanna try again soyuz launches ç_ç
  8. Definitely in the same situation: i'm playing on not so much powerfull laptop, but at low resolution I was able to put together an average good assemblies of mods (I like the real life-like ones, so both of Bobcat's Soviet and American pack, Saturn V, the ULA pack with Atlas and Deltas, the ESA pack, KOSMOS, plus a couple of utilities mods to have more generic improvements of choices, like Novapunch, KW, and utilities like mechjeb) but, actually, I have my memory space already used up by the "basic" same utilities, and I have not started to load the core of my game made by real life rockets... ... BUT even with an almost clean installation, I wasn't able to get the game run at "full speed": an average medium lifter made only stock is more enough to struggle with time compression, makin all of my launches in slo-mo.... U_U I like some of the new feature (new SAS-reaction wheels made my space docking very easier on RTS usage) but i feel, generally speking, that 0.20.2 was more gentle with my poor pc.
  9. ... uhm... I tried at least 10 times... U_U I found the same issue downloading Novapunch 2.02b, but it has also a mirro mediafire download. If it is an problem with Spaceport, i hope BobCat's guys could eventually come up with a mirrow download too...
  10. I having issues with NovaPuch 2.02b download from Spaceport: actually some of the mods there are not well uploaded or the same spaceport is corrupting it during users download. (trying now your mirror download) Actually this issue is also displayed by Bobcat's Soviet Pack Edit1: download from mirror worked flawlessly... just testing now on game
  11. I have some problems with the Soviet Pack download: It goes smoothly, like any from Spaceport, then when trying to open the .zip archive, it tells me that is not an "archive" and i'm unable to open... ... strange issue, because even the American Pack or many other mods downlooaded from Spaceport are opening without any issue. (I'm using 7z as zip opener... maybe a compatibility issue with that sofware, but just for the Soviet Pack archive???)
  12. ... still pointing THIS as a secondary bug, easily handled by some user's side tweaks - better SAS-Reaction wheels-RTS-Gimballing authority controls is happily welcomed Pointing out: I like the «... it's hardly rocket science!» KSP ways to go... i could feel, from whoes were not happy about some features' low response on "already old 0.21 release", that i should probably take a real world astronaut license, than actually enjoing my restarted game (... 0.20/0.20.2 was pretty different than what I used up to 0.19, so i just made my "own version" post 0.20 working assembly), where I restarted one of my most ambitious project from scratch: all human space craft reenactment in orbit AT THE SAME TIME (all that achieved an orbit, at least). ... At my rate, "1 year worth of launches" any real-life week... ... I'm just finished 4 years: 1957 (... first human made objects in orbit: Sputnik 1 and Sputnik 2... God will bless you, Laika ... 2 launches) - 1958 - 1959 - 1960... ... 4 weeks playing just started... I guess many weeks will pass to arrive to actual present year, 2013... LOL (beside, probably, starting more "free temed games", when contemprarly I could launch Apollo-Saturn Mission- like on the moon, when there is also a race between a cancelled "costellation" mission-like and a stock free temed one launched together: my kerbals are ant-like space rocket people )
  13. I just was able to start download the "first" 0.21 (actually i'm not so more a kid, so "playing with pc" is still a passion, but a real life takes more time now a bit more adult). I was just waiting about finish it, so, to use my free time, i was just starting reading about a "problem" with new SAS-Reaction Wheels, that IMMEDIATELY, as the problem was aknowledged by SQUAD Dev (I'm late about... uhm... a couple of days about the release, and just half a day when they started looking at the "maybe bug"), it's already out the NEW 0.21.1 to FIX!!! AMAZING! Thisi is probably one of the best sofware development team ever I seen at work: GLADLY TO BE AN OLD CUSTOMER (not one of their firsts, but I'm here from quite of a bit): Squad are always my heroes <Araym votes for a standing ovation... > BRAVI!!! < ...that obvously he starts!!!> :D ... i just cancelled the "old bugged" 0.21 download to start a fresh-directly patched 0.21.1. not bothering to wait the bugged one to finish, when there is a better version already officially available... :D Edit 1: MUST TO BE QUOTED « In Squad We Trust! » ... I like it...
