  1. The fleet-defense role was relegated to the Super Bug and the AMRAAM, and the latest AMRAAM's have similar effective ranges to the Phoenix. The Tomcat was simply a victim of fiscal constraints and evolving technology... not to mention the terrible engines it carried. Also, the FBW was more extensively utilized on the F-15, which has a more unstable design compared to the Tomcat. This allows for, at least nominally, better maneuverability, and the F-15 is also more cost-effective. The navy can make do with the F-35C (which is honestly terrible for the role) for fleet defense, at least until their F/A-XX.
  2. 120 units is enough to get it to intercept altitude and up to speed. That's the main point of the drop tanks, get the jet to cruising configuration before switching to the internal tanks. PS: That explosion is a tomcat. Watch the final days of your precious tomcat slip by... XD
  3. I found another awesome picture of the F-15. (This one is from the Israeli Air Force)
  4. Just to remind the navy of its inferior tomcat... I kid, I kid... Introducing, the USAF F-15E Strike Eagle! This should still work in 0.90, so just open it up in the SPH editor before flying it. Here's some earlier configurations (It achieved well over 1000 m/s): With functioning drop tanks. Meant to extend range, and they're functioning perfectly. Now here's the latest configuration! Download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/sinyf15mi4ygxgl/F-15E-2%20X%20A2A%204.craft?dl=0 The drop tanks drain in this order: Center, then conformal. It's also armed with AIM-9X missiles. Quite a maneuverable missile. The missiles are also activated after you drop them, and will start out rotated 90 degrees. Kill some migs!
  5. You can thank Spartwo for that railgun. Also, wing panels don't always make the best armor. They tend to disintegrate on impact.
  6. Ah, tumblr... Time for a Makorra strikeback!
  7. Then there's you're diy project! Get a waterproof flexible membrane keyboard, buy up some raspberry pi's with waterproof external enclosures, and get that soldering iron ready! And don't forget the debugging for that code! :D
  8. Only if you really want it to... No really. I could probably make it fly, but only whackjob could handle the lag while making it. The VTOL trial and error would be horrifically slow. :)
  9. I have two contenders, both capable of murdering most computers. KDX-III KDX-III Space Defense (Not the SM-III edition)
  10. So, LOK and Avatar fans, do you believe that Korrasami is endgame, or Makorra?
  11. I'm surprised. I'd of thought that the mods would find this thread too political, but I guess we're either not in their sights yet, or the discussion is going well.
  12. At least until we discover the secrets to antigravity/make a working cannae/ftl drive. I believe space warfare will evolve in a similar manner to both modern day submarines and surface warfare assets. Better technology will lead to better tactics.
  13. I've got a new destroyer with a target speed of 30m/s in the works. HYPE TRAIN!
  14. I'm not sure that I want to get back into spaceship building, but if I do... I just might try making some archer missiles pods.
  15. It's an arms race. The strongest survive.
  16. FINALLY! I have a reason to build those ASW systems. Every new capability brings a new counter.
  17. Time to be the patriot crasher. SOUTH KOREA! VLS Ripple Launch. Gotta spread that 'murican missile love.
  18. A certain metal gear... KDX-III King Sejong the Great. VLS Ripple Launch.
  19. Don't worry, they'll take the 'plasma stealth' and make their Tu-95's invisible! /s
