  1. I have to say no to the decreasing of thrust. As far as sandbox mode goes, if you want to skip to superheavy lifters then go ahead, but for me in career mode the ability to unlock larger and more capable parts is great and adds realism. It only makes sense that on a world where aerospace is funded at 100%, that they make great strides in rocket tech. I only wish we did the same IRL. 175 ton lifters would open the solar system to us so much more..
  2. After playing KSP (200+ hours..), it's really given me a new appreciation for just how big the Earth is, and how much it takes to get off it. I was wondering if it's even possible to upscale the planets/moons in KSP or not. Not to 1:1 scale, maybe just double the current size, and this is more of a thought exercise than a real suggestion. IIRC (and I may not) Kerbin is something like 1/10 the size of Earth, and using something like the Falcon 9 as an example: Earth rockets are 3.5m or so in diameter, and so are the KSP rockets, yet shouldn't they be able to be 1/10 the size and be as capable as the RL equivalents? Yes, you can design a 1.25m rocket that can land on the Mun, but it's pretty tricky, and normally involves asparagus staging, where the Saturn V was just one starscraper of pure power. I guess I'm really just confused on how the whole scalling thing works in KSP versus real life. 3. I'm building a rover that will be put into a very low (Less than 10KM) orbit around Minmus via an orbital assist stage, which will then do the retrograde burn before separating off. The rover will then fire it's Rockomax 48-7S and land under it's own power. How much dV will I need to just land, that is ONLY landing, not the retro burn or taking off.
  4. You forgot to put the Hubble and Tiangong within jetbackpack range.. Other than that, really cool pictures.
  5. I finally did it (In career mode)! I made it to the Duna system, landed on Ike and returned home safely! Originally I planned on landing on Duna, but that changed and I had to settle for Ike due to a lack of dV. Originally I sent a probe to Duna, simply to get a feel for the interplanetary transfer process, but forgot to take pictures. The mission started at 10:00pm local time, when I decided I wanted to do something other than the Mun/Minmus for science. I thought it may take an hour or two.. I was wrong. The ship originally was going to be the Transporter, the Command & Living Section, and the Lander. It turned into the Transporter, the Lander, and my LKO Fuel Depot's Tug. I had forgot to put RCS on the Lander.. The ship would all be pulled by the transporter, using two nuclear engines, and after I got into a parking orbit around Duna, I'd send down my lander using 8 radial parachutes to land, with two more for landing back home. The mission didn't go as planned.. Orbital Construction begins, with the LKO Fuel Depot being the hub: As you can see, using my Heavy Lift rocket I got my lander docked with a mostly full core stage, which refueled the depleted station. Orbital Construction continues, making significant progress. Using the station's tug is a lot easier to dock the things together, in this picture you can see the original Command & Living section, later discarded. Orbital Construction complete, planets are lined up, beginning burn: Because I really suck at ship design, I added two radial fuel tanks in order to add more fuel. I don't think I would have made it otherwise, as the transporter was on fumes when I re-established Kerbin Orbit. We have arrived! The lander is away: In my hast to get more juicy science, I forgot to take a picture of the crew on the ground, however, we did successfully land on Ike: After a period on Ike, we launch and rendezvous with Duna Transport 1: One more lengthy burn and we are back home! Total Mission Time IRL: 6 hours Total Science Return: 700+ Mechjeb was used in this, but only for certain things: Take offs/Landings - Because taking off is repetitive and boring, and landing both because I suck at it, and I needed to conserve as much dV as possible Rendezvous - Some people find rendezvousing hard, it's not. It's just as bad as taking off. Some docking - I balanced the RCS thrusters wrong, and so docking was done Automatically most of the time, with the exception being the space tug pulling the Command Capsule. I did all other maneuvers, which including quite a few saves and reloads.. If any of you have been to Duna and back, can you give me some recommendations on my ship design, what to lose and what to add?
  6. My bad, thanks. I'm used to Mechjeb, I had to relearn how to manually launch and land. Before the new career mode I mostly made heavy lift rockets to build stations, using the KW pack. MechJeb made the many many launches less much better & more efficient, and to be honest I don't like flying/landing manually. I want to know if my creations can fly, I know that with me controlling them most of them fail. As for the engine, no it was poor design. The engine stuck out just a tad and blew up, causing the craft to topple down the crater, I'm lucky I saved it at all. Sadly he ran out of food, water, and air only a couple days after the botched landing.. The craft sent the last radio signal only a few hours ago..
  7. Yep.. Ya did good, Jeb.. Now to get all this science on back home. Wait... Why won't the engine restart...
  8. I'm actually struggling to get science, I haven't even been able to leave Kerbin Orbit. Not everyone is a pro-player like you, and making it even harder will simply turn people away from career mode, including me. Why grind and grind and not have any fun when you can do sandbox and have everything at your disposal? A difficulty level (i.e. Easy, Medium, Hard) may be in order though. EDIT: I am enjoying career mode, I just don't think it should be made harder.
  9. I never blamed the game. I simply asked a question, uploaded the crash file, and asked if others who may be running stock were experiencing frequent crashes. A fresh install would take a while to download on a connection as slow as mine. (less than 1Mb/s) Besides, I realize that there are going to be bugs in the first release. They'll launch a patch soon with a ton of fixes, but like I said I was just wanting to know.
  10. I just can't even play the game, it crashes constantly, when I go to launch, when I'm in the VAB, when I'm ending a flight.. I have the Nova Pack, KW pack and Mechjeb, which haven't been updated so they may be the cause of it, but I really don't like the stock parts. Big ugly orange tanks.. I was just wondering if anyone else has as many crashes as I do? This was the latest crash: http://file2web.com/4862013-05-22_225008.zip
  11. I've actually gotten a drop in performance.. Also whenever I end a flight it seems like a 50/50 chance of the game crashing, Though that could be because of the Nova Punch, KW, or MechJeb mods. Still haven't gotten anything accomplished and probably won't try to until they come out with a patch.
  12. Finally got my parts all sorted out.. After which I sent a simple 1.25m Munar orbiter to the Mun and brought it back. I need to get a new LKO station up, but I'm having problems with Mechjeb wanting to do crazy things, so I have to fly them manually. I really suck at launching manually.
  13. Dude. That's Invader Zim. He's awesome. Made my childhood awesome. I still watch him on Amazon to this day...
  14. Quit (after trying for 30min) because I can't get any of my mod parts to show up. :/
  15. My lord.. And I thought I over-engineered stuff.. Like others posted, you can get to the Mun and back with simple 1.25m parts.. I also want to see that thing in action though
  16. I have the Deep Space pack which comes with the Ion Engine, but I cannot get it to work. I have a battery & Ion engine, and solar panels, and when I fire the Ion engine stage I get a box pop-up with a check thing to fire the engine, but whenever I click it nothing happens even at full throttle. What am I doing wrong?
  17. How you guys get to other planets is beyond me. I just recently got an orbiter around Minmus, and that was by accident.
  18. Wait, the stock game doesn'tt have 3 meter parts? I wonder what mod I downloaded that gave me all my 3 meter parts... Thanks, I'll check those out!
  19. Thanks, I understand the Devs have a lot on their plate, and I wasn't trying to sound pushy or anything, I just wanted a confirmation. Thanks!
  20. Since "Docking" is not listed in blue on this list, I'm guessing it will not be included in the next update? I'm only asking because people have said that it will be included, and people have said that it won't be included. It would be really nice to just get a confirmation from the Devs as to whether or not it will be included, and if it is, awesome, if not, that's fine. Thanks.
  21. Failed to dock.. Seems until they get docking implemented I won't try again, though I did transfer 2 crewmen over. Only 16 more to do to have the station fully staffed. lol
