1. soooo... I just ditched everything and built a new one! Mz Fly-er 3 can make it to a 200 x 200 orbit, rondevouz and deorbit as it is and still has a little bit of jet fuil left to land at KSP! AWESOME! Thank you everyone for your help! With your help the second design was a huge success! And thank you Murph especially, I will see how the best ascent-profile is! Now on to bigger things: Spaceplanes with payload! YAY! PS: Here the new (successful) design:
2. Ok, I changed that and replaced the Aerospike with a normal (gimballed) thruster. Ad ditched the air intakes on the wing Now how to fly this thing optimally? I reached a 7500 x 7500 orbit (YAY!!) but now I have 283 m/s delta V left... barely enough to get it back down to Kerbin, but not enough to reach my space station at 200 000 x 200 000 m! Am I flying it wrong? How would you do it? EDIT: I've seen the Aeris tutorial and based my craft design kinda on this one... the profile is copied too =)
3. Ok so I fixed it and deleted Mechjeb, updated .craft file is here Here is what I do: I fly the plane to 10000 m in a 40-40 degree angle, then I shallow down to 20 degrees, build speed until i reach 0.10 IntakeAir, this is where I pitch up again and start the rocket, disable the jets and try to put my apo at 75000 meters. But it never works! PS: And here is a pic PPS:in this picture the plane has an aerospike instead of the m LV-909 but alas to no avail: I run out of fuel before I can circulize the orbit!
4. Hello everybody, I'm trying to get my first SSTO to orbit, but it just won't work! I've attached the craft file. Can anybody tell me if he/she is able to take this thing to orbit and - if yes, tell me the flight-profile - if no, why not and what did I do wrong? - give general tips on how to fly a SSTO to LKO and how much rocket-deltaV is required? Here is the craft file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/imynxmxtrqhgeu2/Fly-er%202.craft Thank you ever so much!
5. Hello everybody! I'm having a problem with my first major Rocket - the Dunodan! As the Name suggests, it shall go to Duna, with 3 KErbals, Probes and other stuff. This Rocket should bring the main Part into LKO, but the lifter always desintegrates! What am I doing wrong? No matter how many struts I use, the inner asparagus stage always breaks apart and hits the rocket. Ironically, the Taks connected via struts are doing just fine! Why won't the linkage work? See here my craft file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ic5hygbq465ruab/Dunadan.craft Please help! PS: you can give constructive feedback on other possible improvements as well =)
6. I have an Intel Core i5 2500K with an Raedon R9 270X, which is kind of an overkill for KSP. But I have all the details and Stuff maxed! What you can try is a) turn off the antialising, which is a very resource hungry thing to do. (graphics tab) turn down /off the terrain scatter density and detail. It makes all the trees and rocks on planets, but is also very bad for slow computers. c) if you are playing a while, then you should turn down the debrise. It eliminats debrises of earlier crafts, which may be sad, but also relieves your PC a lot! (in the general tab in settings) d)The render quality is also an option to increase frame rates. And of course the shadow cascades. You can try by switching all these things off, look how it works with a huge ass rocket and then turn up a step or two and see how that works. Of course, the resolution is also a thing to do, but in my experience has a minor effect on framerates
7. Hello everybody, sooooo if you want to rondevouz with a target, the standard operating procedure is matching orbits, eyeball-rondevouz, fine-tune rondevouz. Now my question: is matching planes realy neccessary? I mean if I am in an 85° orbit and wanting to rondevouz with a 90° Orbit I just could wait a little bit and then make a homan transfere, come close and kill all relative velocity. Wouldn't that do the trick? And would it be more efficient? Quistions over Quesitons! What do you think?
8. Granted, but your real life physics run on rails I wish I could build a working space plane
9. Granted, 20% of your temperature measured in Kelvin (309° Kelvin - 20 % (61,8°) = 247,2° Kelvin = -25,95° Celsius. Have fun freezing =) I wished I could hear Radio frequencies in my head
10. Hi everybody, I was working with the Kethane mod and an idea struck me. When mining for Kethane, one needs a kethane deposit and a massiv amount of solar energy and batteries, or the mining facility rests at night. Now, as we are used to burn every thing we can digg up as humans, I thought I would like to build a kethane reactor. I looked up and down the forums, but couldn't find anything of that sorts. Now I wanted to get a foot in Mod-development and so on and I want to realize my dream of an kerbal-eco-unfreandly power-source! All I need is encouregment, a little help and (of course!!) a texture modeler, as I am really crappy with that stuff! Would somebody like to join me? Cheers. edit: Could a mod change the title to "Kethane"? Angeldust
11. sooo if they are buried... how do i get there?
12. Hi everyone, so i brought a satellite to polar orbit around the mun and congratulated myself to my hard work. Then it started mapping and I started doing other stuff, until everything was mapped and I was happy. It found some anomalies, one at -82, 102° (approximate) and I went there. Ok, not directly it was more or less a design a craft, design a craft with a rover, launch, orbit the mun, quickload, quickload, quickload, quickload, aaah f*** that I'll use mechjeb, land, BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! What is there except a big hole and no sun? I drove around but found nothing! Any Tips?
13. I only can agree with lucidLemon! Don't use the autopilot! It just ruins the fun! When I landed at Minmus I did almost everything manually (Smart ASS is a help for prograde / retrograde corrections so I use it always when flying to any celestial body). And I was happy like a 6 year old on christmas! Try stuff out, read tutorials, try more stuff out, kill dozens of Kerbals, try more stuff out, kill more Kerbals and fail more often than you succeed! Then you will be invincible *evil laugh*
14. wait until heat is modelled properly and cry your eyes out
15. Here is a list of helpful threads for Orbital operations: http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/showthread.php/23729-Making-Artificial-Satellites http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/showthread.php/23381-ORDA-docking http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/showthread.php/23102-How-do-you-rendezvous-with-another-craft-in-orbit besides there are this awesome youtube videos wich explain everything very well: have Fun !! edit: and there's always google....
16. Thank you ever so much, everything worked just fine! Now I have to figure out how to land at a specific latitude /longitude without using cheaty Mechjeb Autolander! How do you even know the longitude / latitude?
17. Hello Everyone, so I have a MapSat sasttelite over the Mun. So far so good. But how do I do it to map the entire planet? So far it only maps one stripe. And if I change the inclination (Nml+ on MechJeb) There will be some sinus wave, but still it will pass over the same spots. How do I map everything without constantly changing my orbit (thus, applying thrust)
18. oh maaaaaaaan... what a bummer!
19. Hey Everyone! So I used Mechjeb and on the moon at exactly 90° N 90° E I found this: Anything meaningful? In regard to the Pyramid thingy on Duna? Edit: I meant the picture....
20. My try at designing a rocket that could make it to Duna (and possibly back) was disastrous at first, but the name was cool... I called it Dunoredan ( I & II)
21. hello guys, so I'm trying to get to Duna. Failed miserablx the first 1000 times or so and now I think I have my rocket for the job. Awesome. but: i would like to set the launch to the perfect phase angle without warping my ass off. Is there a possibility to set the date or something without Warping? would be awesome!
22. If you have the electricity Mod installed, just slam some solar panels and a battery on a satellite and stick an Ion engine on the bottom, violá, you have a solar powered spacecraft. Just note that those engines are normally used for small end-stage-ships to correct orbit trajectories. I don't think it advisable to try and launch with just ion engines on board, as they are not what you need to get something into space!
23. informative indeed! so... do you use any asas or sas or rcs? or is that just weight you uneccessaryly carry around?
