adding ablation as a tweakable to aero parts? fuel pipes would be beyond sweet! -
I wish Laythe had more ore... it is very little and in stupid places so I have no where decent to put a base that has a flat spot for a runway

I don't think the launch was that bad... and I bet money it was not Harvester and the devs that wanted to launch this soon, I am guessing it was his management at Squad that wanted the game out so THEY rushed them to get the "complete" game out to make more money. -

I haven't had much play time but I did get a resource scanning sat to Laythe to prep for a base. Boy, there is not much for ore on Laythe! -
So with 1.0.2 as anyone visited Eve yet? Is anyone braving an accent attempt? I have seen people say it is impossible but I am curious if anyone has actually sent a rocket there and tested the new atmosphere. /discuss

Resource Mining - Impressions and Questions

at 1000x time warp resource gathering almost completely ignores power consumption. Tested using a vessel at night, drill running and at 100x time warp my power dropped to 0 in about 5 seconds, at 1000x timewarp it dropped to 0 in about 20 seconds and I gathered lots of ore and converted it to lx/o at the same time. Not sure if that is a bug or intentional. From patch notes: * Replaced overheat mechanic of the ISRU and drills with a skill-based mechanic. What exactly does that mean? I noticed if I put 3 engineers in a pod on a drilling rig I can get .06 vs .002 on a probe drill rig. Does this scale up with more engineers? Say I put 6 engineers on a drill rig, will I get substantially more ore recovery? -
do fairings work as heat shields? Could I use a giant flat fairing in the front of a craft instead of multiple heat shields to accomplish the same thing?

I would and normally do test things test things myself but I am away for a couple days and was curious. Did they fix the fact that a 1.25m part could shield a 3.75m part from drag? I seen something in patch notes regarding occlusion so assuming they did

I seen a thread last week that said vehicle mass does not go down when fairings are ejected... has that been fixed? When you eject the fairings does the weight go with them? I tried searching for the thread but I could not find it.

I wasn't even in the atmosphere... unless Jool has had its atmosphere increased from 200k. Hopefully the devs see this or another thread if one has been created. -

I think the scanning portion of resources is pretty decent. The orbital scan is fast and gives you a high level overview and then there is the narrow band scanner which gives more detail on a smaller area. It would be hard to please everyone on this and time warp makes time based scanning moot anyway What is the ratio of lf/mono/ox you get from ore? When I was doing some testing using time warp it seemed that you got lots of fuel from little ore... not sure if that was a time warp bug or intentional but I would think the ratio should be less than 1 to 1 as that would not be realistic at all. -

being able to 1000x time warp and have it completely ignore heat and fill tanks is kind of silly, there really is no incentive to let it mine, you can land, time warp, and fill tanks in a flash. That could use some adjusting -

I've never seen this before. It's a basic probe, has the new big ore scanner and 2 of the smaller scanners along with a fuel tank, engine, and some solar panels and batteries.
