[0.22 career] possible to fail? sould it be possible?
Drunken Hobo replied to TNM's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've not tested it thoroughly, although I did notice that when I pressed "stop transmission" on the Communotron dish, it seemed to reduce the amount of science I got from when I next ran the experiment. If that is the case (I may have misread in-game) then it'd be possible to completely bork up the science by going to every Kerbin, Mun & Minmus biome with every experiment available, starting a transmission then stopping it several times until the science value reaches 0. It'd be a long & tedious process to intentionally break the game, but it might be possible. -
What do you think the Mystery goo really is ?
Drunken Hobo replied to ouion's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Kraken goo... Anybody taken it to Bop yet? -
Somebody finally fixed the drag value for the aerospike - huzzah! And it's yet another version of the game that seems to run smoother. Any more optimisation and I think my ZX Spectrum will be able to run it.
-
No worries, constantly mashing refresh has worked and I've just downloaded the entire thing in about 100s, peaking at 7.5MB/s - the fastest I've ever seen on this PC! Think I've got the entire server to myself.
-
What size is the finished download? I think I've just had it screw up on me. Was so close, then it suddenly finished suspiciously quickly.
-
Maybe some always-on DRM would help speed things up? Get on it, Squad!
-
Download averaging about 180kB/s at the moment. Get it sorted Squad, EA & Rockstar handle big releases flawlessly, so why shouldn't you!?

Biggest Disappointment You've Had in KSP
Drunken Hobo replied to LexiSilva's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Flying a tandem mission to Eve of station + fuel tanker, getting both to aerobrake correctly, lining up orbits, all ready for docking then spending 20 minutes trying to dock before I realised that a Clamp-o-tron Jr can't dock with the normal Clamp-o-tron. I enjoyed smashing that tanker into Eve. -
Career mode Game Over!
Drunken Hobo replied to Monkeh's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
If you have a proper "Game Over" maybe have a really dark ending like Chrono Trigger, with an asteroid heading towards Kerbin that you could have stopped, had only your space program been successful. It'd feel completely out of place in a game about crazy green men and their flying machines, but that'd be the point. -
Career mode Game Over!
Drunken Hobo replied to Monkeh's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I much prefer this idea to a full "Game Over" which somewhat breaks immersion. Maybe even have it possible to sell researched items, so you fall back down the tech tree. Is Kerbal Space Program going to be a private company or a government organisation? Or is it irrelevant? -
What kind of Hardware do you use to run KSP
Drunken Hobo replied to acidr4in's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I think I rival you for worst computer on this thread: Windows XP Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86Ghz 2 GB ram Nvidia GeForce 210 512MB Also a 17" CRT 4:3 monitor. Yeah! It's to KSP's credit that it is completely playable. I think it was the early 0.18 versions that nearly ruined it for me, but there's been so much optimisation since then it runs rather smoothly, albeit with reduced graphics settings. Have to go easy on the mods too. -
Bad news from NASA, should KSP follow suit?
Drunken Hobo replied to kiwi1960's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The poor old Apollo 14 flag had a bit of a shaky send-off: Must have planted it well to keep it standing. -
Why didn't NASA replaced the SRB of challenger?
Drunken Hobo replied to goldenpeach's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I always wonder, how many times did they take a risk like this, only for nothing bad to happen? Nobody would bother to say anything if it worked out fine. -
Biggest Problem Facing Humanity
Drunken Hobo replied to Apotheosist's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I am too, although I suppose this is the internet. Thing is, if people see religion as the world's biggest problem, how do you solve it? Killing all religious people would work... but that's a bit mean-spirited. Generally religion's biggest opponent has been education, so I'm surprised to see education getting so few votes compared to others. Although lack of education can also be traced back to the poverty/distribution of wealth option. -
Biggest Problem Facing Humanity
Drunken Hobo replied to Apotheosist's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I wonder at what point we'll have a war between two countries where it's robot vs. robot, and if we'll suddenly realise how silly it's all become. -
Biggest Problem Facing Humanity
Drunken Hobo replied to Apotheosist's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Ignorance. And those who exploit people's ignorance. Pretty much every other problem can be traced back to this. Education is the only cure, be very wary of any group that tries to restrict access to knowledge. Thankfully with the internet, that's becoming impossible. That's why I regard it as mankind's greatest invention, unlikely ever to be surpassed. -
As it says there, I'm over 350 miles from Croyden, yet it seems to be the best result. About 15Mb/s faster than Edinburgh & about triple the speed of Aberdeen (I'm half-way between the two). Seems strange that, although in Aberdeen they still worship fire, so high-speed broadband isn't to be expected.

Gravitation and effects from a distance
Drunken Hobo replied to Rjhere's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Am fairly sure it'd be the same for electric charge or magnetism, and somewhat easier to test. Have a large electromagnet or charged sphere and a detector a set distance away. Cut the power/ground the charge & check the time delay. I suppose you could test it for gravity by using antimatter to annihilate the object, destroying its gravitational field. Complicated though. As an aside, is gravity slowed down by anything? Light is fairly easily slowed down by air/glass etc, what about gravity? -
Am I the only one who doesnt use mechjeb?
Drunken Hobo replied to Odo's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
I like how it takes a lot of the guesswork out of the game. To me, misjudging an aerocapture and ploughing into a planet isn't fun (well ok it is, but it can become irritating if you're trying to do something properly). Similarly, having to guess how much fuel you'll need isn't great. There's also the little things. If I want to point prograde, it points prograde. No messing about swinging back & forth trying to use a digital input (keyboard) to perform a precise manoeuvre. Useful as my computer predates the invention of fire, and is a little on the choppy side with large craft. I also don't like to use quicksave & find that MechJeb helps a lot with that, especially the warp helper. -
Dihydrogen monoxide hoax (Why a water hoax?)
Drunken Hobo replied to Designer225's topic in Science & Spaceflight
It's funny, the overwhelming majority of articles & websites I've seen about the "dangers" of GM/E numbers/vaccinations also have links to shops selling organic produce/homeopathy/conspiracy theory books. It's almost as if they have a vested interest in scaremongering & spreading misinformation... Similar to (but less interesting) than your story, I noticed on my shampoo bottle it contained "Organic Tea Tree Oil"... and Methylchloroisothiazolinone. That's a fairly harsh synthetic fungicide. Again, perhaps missing the wood for the trees. -
Enceladus is also rather easy to probe compared to Europa. No need for any complicated cryobots, just send a probe into a low orbit and analyse the eruptions.

I just don't see Kerbals as sexual beings, they're just characters in a game. It's the same reason Tinky-Winky wasn't gay. He wasn't straight either, just a giant purple kids' TV character. Sexuality or gender isn't even a consideration.

Some reasons behind Cold Fusion's controversy
Drunken Hobo replied to JMBuilder's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I always find it amusing that people claim to have discovered cold fusion/free energy etc, have been "silenced" by big oil yet are willing to sell the plans for just $50 over the internet. Bargain of the century! -
Dihydrogen monoxide hoax (Why a water hoax?)
Drunken Hobo replied to Designer225's topic in Science & Spaceflight
There have also been campaigns to end women's suffrage. They too were highly successful.
