  1. I am almost certain this is a glitch with the arches and maybe the memorial (although that might not be big enough - don't know I haven't found it yet). I have seen this at least twice and once where two were visible at the same time. I think it's related to the whole sun illuminating your craft through planets thing but with the arches.
  2. Correct, although not broke, forgot:mad:. It wouldn't be so bad if it had broke. When first put it together and was testing the stages I realized the fuel line was attached to the decoupler. So I went back into the VAB to change it and forgot to set the symmetry:(. Which just makes it even more annoying. So, bonus picture:
  3. My first successful rendezvous and landing on Duna with enough fuel to get home: Bonus point if you can spot why they can't go home! Testing of above rocket and lander around Minmus ended in tragedy after the commander was dared "How low can you go". The final picture taken moments before the craft crashed. The camera clipped through the terrain giving the impression of flying through the rings of a planet - which would be cool if they included.
  4. Playing: KSP Planetside 2 Beta Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead Occasionally: DCS A-10 Warthog Waiting for: Arma 3 X-Rebirth Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition DayZ Standalone
  5. Yeah I'd have to go with Event Horizon too. As soon as I saw the thread title it was the first name to come to mind. Alien/s too of course. Moon is a really good film, slow paced but I really like it, the soundtrack is good too. Although not films, Red Dwarf episodes "Better than Life" and "Quarantine" used to scare me as a kid when I first watched them. "Quarantine" is now one of my favorite episodes.
  6. Completed my first rendezvous today while orbiting Eve (to rescue Bill and Bob, Jeb stayed behind to go down with his ship) without any mods. Anyway the best advice I guess I could give is patience, and a good understanding of orbital maneuvering. You can't just thrust towards your target because you'll affect your orbit on the other side of the planet and you'll move away faster than you can correct. You need to sync the orbits so you catch up to your target. Like mentioned above, lower orbit to speed up and higher to slow down. It can be very counter intuitive at times. If you're ahead of your target but your orbit is going to be lower than your targets orbit, you have to thrust away from it to allow it to catch up. Also, again as mentioned, RCS. You can't really do it without it. As for a step-by-step, this is as I understand it: 1. Align orbit planes. 2. Position your apoapsis in exactly the same place as your targets apoapsis (this is your rendezvous point). 3. Position your periapsis below your targets so you catch up and meet at your apoapsis (next to impossible to judge accurately by eye, maybe mechjeb helps) 4. When you catch up to your target at your apoapsis you make your periapsis identical to your targets (Assuming the rest went as planned this is the easy bit) However, information required to do this is missing or a pain to get for now. Hopefully that will change soon. In my experiance (I'm counting orbiter in this as I've only done this once in KSP) you need to match up your orbits so you get within 1km of your target and then use RCS to finish. I can't help with mechjeb or docking side of things, I'm waiting for it to be included as standard. Anyone more experienced please correct me if I'm wrong.
  7. I was going to post something similar. Got a space plane to do a flyby of the Mun. Saw 2 arches and then as I went to the dark side I saw what I first thought was another craft due to its speed moving towards and underneath me. It appeared to be moving separately from the surface but after a while it started to look like a sun lit arch visible through the Mun. Maybe the same thing?
  8. That's amazing. Agreed, it would be awesome fly through that. Mine is quite empty and before 0.17 it was completely empty. I had my rockets staged so that the stage that just about got me to orbit was released just before an orbit was established. The next stage completed the Kerbin orbit, got me to the Mun or Minmus, and started the deorbit before being released to crash into the moons surface. However, I haven't found a way to do that when going (read trying) to get to other planets. So now I've got a few random bits floating around the solar system. Big bits mind you. I keep hoping that they'll get captured by a planets gravity and flung off somewhere else or crash, but am I right in thinking this won't happen unless I'm observing it directly?
  9. Here is my entry. Although I think I'm a little behind seen as though some of you getting to other planets. Anyway, the Orbiter Mk III (there are no prizes for original names) is the most stable/largest craft I've built and easily the best looking in my fleet so far. Has a slight list to the left when flying (cause unknown) and has a tendency to lose two of it engines on takeoff (a very shallow take-off angle required). It also isn't perfectly balanced so when using the aerospikes in orbit the nose drifts up a little. I put it in an orbit of around 95km and 77km although it can go higher with around a quarter of fuel left for each engine. Did several orbits waiting for s solar eclipse to occur. I re-entered a tad early on this flight and was left with 70km to go to the runway at 7000m with no fuel, which it happily made with a little to spare. No idea if that's a good glide ratio for KSP but I was pleased (even if it did take something like 20 minutes). Orbit This game is beautiful Solar Eclipse Re-entry to KSC Landed Publicity Shot Sorry not sure how to hide the images like others have done.
  10. You and me both. Didn't see the need to start a new thread. So, hello everyone. Been reading the forums for a while too, registered so I could give feedback and to post in the K-Prize challenge. Which I'm going to do right now.
