  1. Hi! I wanted to download 1.8, but when i click the "account" button on https://www.kerbalspaceprogram.com/ i get a "HTTP ERROR 500" Known issue? Thanks!
  2. Thanks! Thats actually what i did. In the third picture you can see that its positioned for a "normal" equatorial orbit. Forgot how to rotate the shuttle/parts less than 90 degrees and was too lazy to search And it was a bit wobbly, but i managed Edit: Funny detail btw, i actually found out how to check orbit inclination AFTER the launch. So the whole launch was a guesstimate, and when it was circularized and i finally found the inclination display, it turned out it was at 30.3 degrees, with more than enough fuel to fix that last bit. Not too shabby
  3. STS3 Commander Run! I went for something a bit more interesting than just "goo in a can", created somewhat of a radio telescope. The plan was a lot more graceful originally, more like the James Webb telescope, but after cursing at triangle positioning for several hours, i went for a bit simpler design Album: https://imgur.com/gallery/7jLatZB and teaser p.s. edit: I probably should have moved the shuttle wiith the 40t tank from the previous mission off the runway BEFORE landing. That was quite a surprise, but managed to navigate around it
  4. Quick question, how do ii check orbit inclination? Edit: Stock kerbal Edit2: nvm, found it. Details in the bottom left of the screen when flying
  5. Looking good, looking forward to seeing how it flies And the badges, get the image link (right click the badge you got and select "copy address") and then go to the forum "Account settings" (in your personal menu top right of the page), then "signature", and paste the link in the big text box there. It should change the image link to an image itself.
  6. Im not a mission expert or anything, but the original shuttle used drag shutes too If thats the only use, would be in the spirit of the challenge imo. But up to @4x4cheesecake and/or other challenge mods hahahaha, sooooo cute! Nice one
  7. Thanks! And it was really an experiment for me too. started playing in 2012, and had a pretty long pause before this challenge, so its also a nice way for me to get familiar with all the new parts and mechanisms. Totally expected the "docking within vessel" to fail, but worked perfect. Couple of questions about the STS-3 challenge (telescope), because the description is pretty vague: * What exactly defines a telescope? * MMU: just basically a kerbal in a seat with some RCS fuel, thrusters and a docking port attached? * Orbital construction, so adding docking ports and adding panels to those in space? Edit: And quick general question: How do i make my signature slightly smaller so the images show up properly?
  8. STS-2b run! One of the main issues of the first run was that the 40t tank kept detaching from its docking port on touchdown. So this time i added a piston with a large docking port to the back of the cargo bay too, that moves in once the first port is docked, keeping the thing in place Other issue was lift/control, much easier fix, just add some wings/control surfaces. Not the prettiest solution, but flies like a charm And the gallery: https://imgur.com/gallery/BKHRMAc
  9. Hmm, the mission description does not state specifically that the landing should be at an airstrip. Desert/field landing accepted too in such cases?
  10. Awesome, thanks! Currently working on the STS-2b challenge, but man, that thing is hard to land Did the entire run, but kept failing on the landing, over an hour of quicksave restarts did not help So rebuilding now, hopefully i'll have an entry later this week!
  11. STS-2a Commander attempt! I went for the resonant orbit, worked like a charm. Actually planned to record this run again, but the second test launch was already a succesful full run Mostly used airbrake to slow down, since not much fuel left, that also worked out nicely. Took a couple of orbits though And came in a little fast, so had a bit of a tumble above KSC, but the shuttle recovered nice to proceed landing safely. Album: https://imgur.com/gallery/R8rBBDP
  12. Thanks! And yeah, not figured out what's exploding yet, everything still seems to function properly and do not see anything missing. Then again, It would not be Kerbal without some exploding parts And good tip! Still working on the landing indeed, found out during this run the RCS does more harm than good in the final approach. Mostly been a rocket man so far Finally a question about challenge STS-2a: "Reach an orbit of 350+km and deploy three or more comsats to equidistant geostationary orbits. De-orbit and land at either at the KSC runway, the Island Airfield just off of KSC, the Dessert Airfield from MH, or at any Kerbal Konstructs airport." 350 km is not geostationary. So i launch the sats at 350km and move them to their final orbit, 2200km ish afterwards? And equidistant, just roughly at 120 degrees of each other or is there a certain threshold like with the fuel can orbit? Cheers!
  13. Ok, new attempt at STS-1b, and caught on video Orbit proof around 17 min 20 sec in the vid, and around 21:05 the probe gets fully activated, with proof of fuel/cargo. And completed in one run even! Did quicksaves, but not needed in the end. Cheers!
  14. Ahw crap, had not watched that at all. Apparently 76 monopropellant got used... Shame because the craft had more than enough on board. Will do another run, gives another chance at the airrstrip landing too ;)
  15. Awesome, Thanks! Most of the engines are the small engines on the shuttle itself, and perhaps they dont need to be on during launch, but every bit of thrust helps i guess. Because with those small engines, i can balance the weight more around the shuttle, then just engines at the back. That keeps it super easy to fly. Also, the launch vehicle itself is way more powerful than it needs to be or this challenge alone, but that helped with the next step! I noticed the pod of the STS-1b challenge fit in the hull, and with some adjustments (bigger shuttle engine, 2 solid boosters and some tweaking off the liquid sidetanks positions) i got it into orbit, AP 117.258, PE 117.274, deployed, and shuttle landed on KSC this time, only about 30 meters to the right of the runway! 16. Thanks! And yeah, that was not an entry, just my statement of commitment and a funny mission That said, my STS-1a challenge is now completed i think! Got into orbit, de-orbited and landed at the dessert airfield in one piece, without any extra luggage this time I have hyperedit and mechjeb installed, but neither were used during this run. Just very useful while building the craft. No other mods And the album: https://imgur.com/gallery/fbKbvKq
  17. Good day! Oldtimer checking back in and going for this challenge Working towards the first badge, and the Kerbals finally have a properly flyable shuttle and what looks like a decent launch booster. They managed to launch, not perfect but they got into near circular orbit (105 km x 95 km). And fortunately there was still even some fuel leftover from the second of 3 stages to help with the de-orbit maneuver! But once that fuel ran our, our little Kerbals had a nasty surprise when they tried to separate the 2nd stage. Instead of attaching it to the detachment manifold, the ground crew had welded it directly to the main fuselage... In true Kerbal spirit the brave astronauts still went on with their mission though! The de-orbit maneuver was completed as planned, and descent onto the desert airfield initiated. Right before the final landing approach, a last fuel burn was done to get rid of as much weight and combustibles as possible. In the end, the runway was not quite hit on touchdown, but the landing was gentle enough to JUST rip off the 2nd stage (and perhaps a wing of the lander, but they were on the ground already, details...), touch down, and roll onto the landing strip. So yeah, not a full first run yet, but the journey was too great not to share Some pictures: https://imgur.com/a/dhqN9Fw
  18. Congratulations @IonStorm, to you and the entire team, on a very successful first phase! And just curious, you guys have a high res picture that's slowly dripping in by any chance? I can imagine the upload speeds of Rexy would be kinda limited in a rural area like that anyway, great job and looking forward to the next phases!
  19. Getting close to target and flexing it's muscles Closing in on Bennu
  20. hmm, never posted this here i see. I bump in and out of kerbal activity a lot... But a late thanks to @IonStorm !! And i feel obliged to try again now, with Gilly mass though or between gilly and real... I really did spend hours irl hunting for the bloody thing with modded real mass... Currently doing some Jool stuff but will update here when there is something new to report. Cheers!
  21. Wow, I won something Did not even remember participating before i got the message today (craft made in May) Thanks again for hosting this challenge, was great fun!
  22. bla, nvm.. Gonna add one more module to my scout ship before takeoff, testing flights first, not claiming yet
