  1. Multiple monitor support if not all ready built into KSP would be very nice for readouts as well.
  2. Oh Noes. Squad fixed something.... So terrible........... Dre4dW0rm Please fill out this form asap. Thank's squad. You guy's do a great job
  3. Some updates for today: Research and Development - Max 22 points Launch and dock an unkerballed Orion Block 1 to the orbiting space station, for use as a lifeboat (+2) Use an Ares I in at least one space station docking mission (+1) Note, this station is in a 130 km by 130 km orbit around Kerban and I used Mechjeb for only data readouts.
  4. I'm still working on my Duna mission. Just have been having unfortunate raging experiences with the SLS boosters clipping the main stage, and taking out my orbital insertion booster at 15,000 ft or so so I had to take a short break from KSP.
  5. Just a quick update. I have started early design work on my Duna return vehicle. This thing on top of the SLS style rocket is a beast, although the rocket is not the final design that I intend to use it is very over developed and in theory it should be able to return from Duna's surface to orbit and dock with the mother ship as a ssto vehicle. For my mission architecture I intend to develop a separate vehicle that can deliver two rovers to Duna, the Duna Return Vehicle, as well as a manned lander that will remain on the surface as a Outpost Variant Duna return vehicle prototype on top of a SLS rocket. A surplus orbital insertion booster with plenty of fuel left over in the main tank is left in low Kerban orbit. It will remain here until it is needed for future uses. Note, Mechjeb during this launch was only used for data readouts.
  6. Considering most of my designs are based off of real life rockets with a proven track record, yes.
  7. This is the beauty of 64 bit, and why you should love it instead of hate it as once you get above the 3.2 gb - 3.5 gb limit that was imposed by the 32 bit version you can keep on going. My machine runs a windows operating system and has 24 gb worth of ram and there were times in the 32 bit version where the game was crashing because of the artificially imposed ram limit that was a staple of 32 bit programs. I haven't kept up with developments in the Mac world for a very long time, but I've got to ask does the modern mac operating system have 64 bit support? and how much ram does your mac have?
  8. 1500 DV? or 1500 Delta V? I'm confused. Which is it supposed to be?
  9. For those who are saying that it is not possible I should remind you all that Von Braun successfully launched two small test rockets in 1934 while a part of the Verein für Raumschiffahrt aka the Society for Space Travel. Also the V2 was mostly developed in the mid to late 1930's, with the design being finished in 1937 well before the civilian rocket program was militarized and as we recall the V2 was the first rocket launched into space. Now of course if you want to do anything on that scale you would require A: lots of money, or B: the backing of a corporation or government. Had things played out differently in Germany during the interwar period it is quite possible that the Society for Space Travel could have successfully launched a V2 rocket in the early to mid 1940's.
  10. I've decided to restart with the release of 0.24. Mainly to take advantage of the 64 bit support that is now available.
  11. What about a remote command pod on the boosters? - that way when it is detached it is technically a "second ship" and shouldn't vanish at the 2.5 km limit.
  12. They currently crew my main space station in Kerban orbit, the KSS.
  13. I should remind people that you paid for the privilege of testing a incomplete product. Squad has no obligation of adding any particular content no matter how vocal the community is about it, and in the case of resources I'm willing to have that axed if it was a grindy boring system and I am looking forward to multiplayer and trolling my friends creations much more then I ever looked forward to mining. I don't want to go digging for ore(s) and drilling for multiple kinds of fuel(s) to build rockets, and if I do feel the need of adding that kind of difficulty later on there's always the option of Kethane or I can play minecraft.
  14. I've been playing minecraft and warthunder with friends. I really want to do my Duna exploration program BUT as people have said with 0.24 and 64 bit support for windows right around the corner I've decided to hold off until the update actually happens.
  15. Later SpaceXray. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.....
  16. Wow... They've really lowered the bar on entertainment and replay value now haven't they?
  17. Now your asking me to project the future, and tell you if the yet unknown Presidents of the United States will have a policy that is pro or against America having space capabilities. We don't know who will make up the future administration, what their policies will be on space exploration, or how future events will shape their policies on space exploration. For example if Hillary wins in 2016 will she use her 2008 election space platform as a base for actual government policy? which I should note called for reversing cuts made to NASA's budget and implementing a balanced strategy of robust human spaceflight and robotic exploration. Perhaps. If Romney or Ryan runs and gasp somehow wins in 2016 will he then turn to a private sector "solution?" Could happen. Someone else could run and refocus the SLS and Orion to service a future Moon base or gut the entire agency. There are too many variables for me or anyone else to accurately say a certain event will or will not happen. However keep in mind that things for NASA are not as grim as you are claiming that they are. The country is trending blue, and a overwhelming percentage of minorities consistently vote Democrat. Minorities who by the middle of the century will outnumber whites in America. These trends suggest that if the Republicans don't make major changes to their own election platforms that NASA will have the backing of a Democratic President, and perhaps even a Democratic Congress well into the middle of this century.
  18. I have craft's like this 80% ish complete replica of the ISS below that use 2.1 gigs of ram with stock parts. The only mod used is Mechjeb. I've crashed the game going over the 4 gb ram limit with this station before. Believe me, 64 bit unity and the access to all that extra ram that my system has is a good thing.
  19. Vonar Constellation Challenge Crew Launch Vehicle (Ares I) - Max 11 points Two stage rocket to LKO (+2) Does not jettison any radial stages (solid or liquid tanks/engines) (+2) Can carry Orion Block 1 to low orbit without using any fuel from the Orion service module (+1) Can carry Orion Block 2 to low orbit without using any fuel from the Orion service module (+2) Uses any solid fuel booster on first stage (+1) Uses only solid fuel on first stage (+3) Total Score: 8 Notes: Only a small amount of fuel from the Block I/II was used, and the upper stage ends up falling back to Keban as did the RL Ares I. I did use Mechjeb on this particular launch as it was a early test launch where I was still working out the bugs in the design, but I have flown it since without - just don't have a pic of the particular launch. Crew Vehicle (Orion) - Max 14 points Block I Orion Block II Orion Block II Orion long range demonstration flight Supports at least 4 crew (+4) Each crew over 4, up to 6 crew maximum (+2) Self-contained multi-purpose spacecraft: Launch Escape System (LES), Power, RCS fuel/thrusters, orbital maneuvering engine/fuel, docking port, probe core (+2) Service module: Before landing, drops orbital maneuvering engine and all it's fuel and at least a portion of RCS fuel (+2) Safely touches down on land and water (+1) Solar/battery electrical only (no RTG) (+2) Block 1/2 bonus: Develop a Block 2 with slightly higher delta-V. Block 1 is intended for low orbit missions and the Block 2 for Munar/deep space missions (+1) Block II can get to the edge of the Kerban sphere of influence and back with fuel to spare. Total Score: 14 Note: First Block I Orion had a capacity for a crew of 5. Second has a capacity for a crew of 7, BUT for in-game purposes the 7th seat is considered to be taken up by supplies and other mission critical equipment and is left empty at launch.
  20. List of potential SLS Payloads: Large upper stage Solar Probe Outer System sample return multiple rovers to the surface of Venus or Mars substantial shielding needed for operating long term in the harsh radiation environment of the Jupiter system. mission to moons of Jupiter and Saturn, namely Europa and Enceladus Lagrange point station, presumeably at the Earth-Moon L2 Launching large 16+ crew stations into LEO in a single launch like the BA-2100 inflatable module asteroid visits, Asteroid Redirect Robotic Mission (ARRM) robotic mission to Europa Manned Mars missions Launching NASA's two spare Hubble Space Telescopes Advanced Technology Large-Aperture Space Telescope a 8 to 16.8-meter (320 to 660-inch) UV-optical-NIR space telescope Space Tug Lunar Base Manned Venus or Mars Flyby wet workshop station dod, private sector payloads, secondary payloads Based on this list I would say there are plenty of potential payloads - certainly more then what were proposed for the Saturn V's post Apollo application program.
  21. Was testing out a two-stage Munar lander. The Mun landing was going great, right up until I was about to touchdown when I noticed my decent stage had a whole 5 seconds worth of fuel left. Thankfully the second stage had more then enough fuel to leave the surface of the Mun, and reach low munar orbit. But the last few seconds of that landing were pretty tense.
  22. Honestly I don't think that ram is going to be a problem when you've got 16 gb worth of useable ram on a gaming rig. For kerbal purposes I don't use many mods, the only ones I've got installed at the moment are Kerbal alarm clock, Kethane, and Mechjeb. With 0.24 it will be interesting to see what kind of performance changes that access to that kind of ram provides. Especially with big part projects like my KSS which had a save that ended up imploding in slow motion at one point presumably because of a unfortunate collision or the kraken.
